Susan: Hey. I worked hard being somebody else, because I am ashamed of who I am. So give me my medal!!

Kate, thanks for posting that! For everyone who clicks on the link, make sure you follow that to the Times story here: http://tinyurl.com/chaea

Humanity disgusts me sometimes!
Really and truly disgusts me.

Publicists should insist their products stick to scripts. It's bad enough we have to be subject to their arranged marriages and the ensuing publicity, but letting these people called actors reveal how ignorant they actually are is truly a public disservice - especially that guy who punches photographers and parties with Saddam, he's an exceptional idiot.

Thank you, Kate.

Everytime I hear a feminist comment about how hard women have it in North America and cite issues of discrimination, I think about how coddled and uneducated our society is about other regions of the world.

Many women fought hard against real hardship here to gain equality and respect. If they were able to hear these actresses "speak out against oppression" (the way Sarandon, Diaz and Barrymore have in North America) while ignoring the horrible plight of women worldwide who undergo forced servitude, genital mutilation and indifferent justice everyday, they would be mortified.

These women should take the time to see where the real atrocities are happening and speak out in support of efforts to help end these situations. But I guess it is easier to criticise here where there is no fear of reproach.

Jan, while I agree with your sentiments, I would caution that Diaz was raised in South Africa and may actually know oppression when she sees it. That being said, you didn't provide a link so I will defer to your judgement (I rarely read the rags that print the opinions of the 'celebrities' you refer to).

Posted by: Candace at February 16, 2006 3:37 AM

I was actually refering to statements she had made on guest spots on television. Mostly late night talk like Letterman or Leno. I really don't pay much attention to what celebrities say, but like it or not the majority of North Americans do. I was trying to point out how hypocritical it was for these celebrities to "direct" the anger of their fans to minor issues at home while avoiding the major issues the sufferage movement is experiencing around the globe.

Found over at Religious Policeman:
http://muttawa.blogspot.com/

"The Saudi Parliament makes a decision on allowing women to drive in Saudi Arabia..."

Quick write to your local Inman and Mulla (or is it Mooolla) and tell them to stop this abomination!

Cite examples of how women drivers in North America are the largest cause of um...ah...tell them to watch how Thelma and Louise drove, ya, that will convince them. The harlots!

;-)

It just occured to me that Candace and I may not be talking about the same person. I was refering to Cameron Diaz, the currently popular actress who ,as near as I can discover, was not raised in South Africa.

http://www.starpulse.com/Actresses/Diaz,_Cameron/Biography/

Candace of who were you speaking?

Posted by: Jan Schaafsma at February 16, 2006 5:13 AM

So by a sommersault of logic Susan Sarandon is connected with forced prostitution. Does that make anyone feel better?

Posted by: Jose at February 16, 2006 5:26 AM

It was probably a toss-up between her or Angelina Jolie.

Posted by: JM at February 16, 2006 7:19 AM

Charlize Theron is South African. Although, she may have made the jump to African American by now.

Everytime I hear a feminist comment about how hard women have it in North America

Those same feminists that for decades have denigraded men and marriage and are now fighting to keep partial birth abortion legal.

Amazing that with all of the pathology from polygamy, burqas, stoning, genital mutilation, no voting rights afflicting women in the ME, feminists here have had their mouths zipped shut.

Feminists are the most vile hypocrits. And, of course, every college campus is infected with their idiotic Women's Studies courses. If we can ever restore sanity and diversity of opinion to colleges again, maybe, just maybe, those hags will be exposed to young women as the hypocrits that they are.

I'm not optimistic.

Posted by: penny at February 16, 2006 11:24 AM

That would be funny if there wasn't so much truth in it.

Posted by: Bill at February 16, 2006 12:11 PM

penny: Indeed. I've been mystified about the feminazi silence over their REALLY oppressed sisters.

A question for you: I've been doing a lot of thinking over the years about the origin of Political Correctness, and have come to a tentative conclusion that it was from the feminist movement. What do you think?

Posted by: me no dhimmi at February 16, 2006 7:36 PM

me no dhimmi

Interesting thought.

You've got me thinking.

Feminism started the demise of men as an appreciated gender and viewed the nuclear family as pathological.

Here is something I think about because I'm a psych nurse: the medication of predominately boys with Ritalin for what is most often just boy's behavior. Most teachers are female. Go figure.

I think your theory is on the mark.

It's wonderful that the internet(kudos to Kate) provides a forum where common people can discuss what has been killing our culture. We have all witnessed it, but had nowhere to meet kindred spirits in large numbers.

Another Tobin moment..ie never met a microphone he didn't like.

Its tough to track the source of political correctness exactly but its widely believed to have begun on University Campuses in Ontario. I was at ground zero and I can pinpoint it further to the Women's Studies department.

You probably never saw the worst excesses of political correctness:

-A belief that the only healthy/sane/consensual sex a woman can have is with another woman. The male penis shouldn't be inserted into any orifices (unless it was another man's rear end in which case its ok).
-The abolishment of beauty as a factor in romantic/sexual affairs because it unfairly penalizes unattractive people.
-all of women's problems are due to a conspiracy of men who have been brainwashing them for... forever basicaly.

I actually think feminism is a bit of a con. The real benefits apply to men:

-Its now socially acceptable and relatively easy to ditch your wife and kids.
-We aren't expected to support women financialy anymore.
-We get laid a lot more now outside of marriage.
