I am willing to suffer an occasional spill if it means we can continue to afford to live in a prosperous first world country with health care and ample supply of affordable food.

Or we could all eventually go squat in the Great Bear Rainforest and starve to death with no oil spills whatsoever.

Money comes from somewhere and that somewhere here and now is in the oil and gas industry.

Defendant appeals as of right, arguing that the trial court erred by refusing to sever the two charges and by refusing to admit evidence that one of the victims had herpes. We affirm."

Posted above comment before accessing the video - it's unclear as to where the sex offender, John, is residing or reporting from.

How coincidental that a man just happens to have a seizure when the camera crew is there to film it; didn't see any ambulance outside the victims house either when he made his plea. Talk about fake emotion from the sex offender - please help us he begs.

I think we should help him, and more importantly, the Keystone pipeline project by exposing John as the criminal he is. It will do damage to their anti-pipeline campaign for sure. The entire film will most certainly be discredited.

A friend is an engineer in Edmonton. He told me that the phenomenon of oil in rivers is natural in this part of Alberta. That bitumen in the ground has been there for millions of years, and that is why it is profitable to get it out. We didn't put it there, nature did. He describes the oil sands development as the greatest environmental cleanup ever undertaken by man.

But for full disclosure he is employed by an evil oil services engineering firm.

Posted by: gordinkneehill at February 13, 2012 1:53 AM

The people of Ft Chip have always had poor health and a higher than normal incidence of cancer. The elders tell stories of people always being sick. Prior to the oil sands development they blamed it on the WAC Bennett dam. The Athabaska river flows through a region of natural oil seeps that have always contaminated the water.

Previous federal and provincial governments have tried to move the people to a safer location but they refuse to leave.

Posted by: eastern paul at February 13, 2012 2:29 AM

From looking at some of his Youtube videos, he seems to make a lot of dubious and self-aggrandizing claims. Among them, that he was awarded a Bronze Star medal from the US Navy for "saving a man's life". He makes a point of this several times.

Also, as far as I can tell, he was never an actual employee of Enbridge (though the Greenpeace video tries to lead us to believe he was). Rather it seems he was more likely a temporary casual labour hire by a cleanup contractor. He claims his position was "yard boss" (whatever that's supposed to mean?), and that he was paid $120,000 per year. Sounds pretty fishy. Just how many oil spills does Battle Creek, MI have, that he would have a permanent job cleaning them up -- and at that rate of pay.

All in all, he gives the impression of being some guy who's trying to create some notoriety for himself as a wanna-be "whistle-blower". I'd bet the harder you look into his story, the more holes you find, just like Greenpeace.

Posted by: rg at February 13, 2012 5:21 AM

It appears that most of the comments are more concerned that a short segment of the Greenpeace criticism is voiced by a convicted pervert than by the bogus anti-pipeline message in the video. Isn't that missing the point? There are much bigger issues at stake here than some pervert's heinous crime, or what he's wearing. The perverted fascination with the nature of his crime that some comments display is really creepy.

I don't agree with the Greenpeace position of blowing-out-of-proportion the remote possibility of a spill and the environmental damage it MIGHT cause. The message is contrived bullsh!t, regardless of who is stating it.

I also noticed no one comments, you would think with all the anger, ginned up by the CBC etc there would be comments, especially with this story about Pee Wee Hermans look-alike hating oilsands, that's serious, but we still have to wait for Lady Gaga and Robert Redford to weigh in I guess.

Posted by: bartinky at February 13, 2012 9:42 AM

As an informed Canadian, regardless of the criminal history of the individual in the video, I would not necessarily discount the propaganda value of this video. I don't play the game the MSM and the left play, by shooting the messenger, or blindly following the herd. I look at the validity of the message. The film seems to expose environmental damage due to insufficient cleanup by Enbridge. That is a message that will resonate with most Canadians. If true, I myself would like to know why, wouldn't you. As a pro-oil supporter, I realize that we have to take necessary risks to enjoy our standard of living, but the worse environmental crime a company can do is evading it's fiduciary responsibility to clean up after itself. Do the crime do the time applies to all, no exceptions, at least in my books.

(I've read at some U.S. blogs that doing that can get you put on the sex offender registry in some states.) Or screwing his 15-year-old girlfriend when he was aged 16 or the like. It must have been something pretty heinous to get a LIFE on his registry card.

Posted by: andycanuck at February 13, 2012 11:06 AM

Reginald Canadian prisons/jails sex offenders of any stripe are sequestered away from the general population and each other, to the extent of paranoia.

Trustees in the kitchens are closely supervised preparing their meals and are NEVER granted access to the cell units the sex offenders reside.

The guards and prison/jail administration are absolutely convinced that the cons WILL kill them.
Even guards are not allowed access exceptin pairs and are rotated frequently to lesson risk.

The scuttle-butt is that Paul Berrnardo although closely sequestered has had at least 2 attempts on his life.

Plenty of your sex offenders survive their sentences in the U.S., the sex registry exists to register living felons who have been released.

What we don't have in Canada; are Presidents and Governors who can pardon felons, wielding a power to overturn the courts that not even our Sovereign Queen Elizabeth II has.

Posted by: Bruce at February 13, 2012 12:30 PM

northernont- In some cases, oil is left to "flash off" if cleaning it up might tend to cause more damage to the ecosystem. It might take a few years to evaporate, whereas the vegetation could take decades to recover from a full reclamation project. Crude oil is relatively harmless to most vegetation. I've seen vegetation that was covered in oil in winter, growing faster than surrounding vegetation that wasn't touched by oil. If there is still oil on the sites in question, it's because the government agency has agreed to let it evaporate.

But I guess that's what you get from ideological lefties that are so trying to damage they right that they won't even do the due diligence on their own side to see if it stands up to scrutiny.

And that's why they are losing. But the right must be ever vigilant.

Posted by: Peter at February 13, 2012 2:26 PM

@Bruce..I don't know what my argument for ensuring Oil companies clean up their oil spills has to do with "Wind Energy and bald eagles". For the record, I am a rabid anti-wind and solar provider, as these technologies are more suited to backyard hobby projects like keeping your garage light on at night, not for providing base electrical power on a commercial scale, propped up by taxpayer subsidies, while literally shredding the avian population.I support the Oil Industry because I realize that oil is not the boogeyman as portrayed to be by the current CAGW loony environmentalists, but ensures the survival of our standard of living. Questioning environmental policies and practices of Oil companies, especially policies for cleanup should be done always, as with any other resource extraction, so the taxpayer is not left footing the bill. Making executives personally liable financially for the actions of their corporations is a good place to start, and this does not just apply to oil companies.

"Therefore people who oppose the pipeline support sex offenders."

Close but not entirely accurate. The Liberal Left supports "sex offenders" by proxy. (Although most of us refer to them as rapists or paedophiles, not simply a liberalized sex offender)

This guy is a "poster child" winner of the radical left award because he's not in prison for life over his crimes nor his mental illness. He fits in well with the other mentally ill radicals of green peace, and is in fact in debt to the forces of his freedom for the ability to continue sodomizing little boys as he so chooses.

Posted by: Knight 99 at February 13, 2012 3:20 PM

Yeah, neither I, nor anyone else on the left has ever used the term "rapist" or "paedophile". In fact, we consider the term "sex offender" inappropriate. We prefer "differently minded", which respects the uniqueness of their souls.

Hoping your know I'm pulling your leg. Can't count on too much from you guys.

No my friend. The left does not support sex offenders, even by proxy. They might support fair trials, and treatment, but the vast, vast majority of us want them locked away somewhere that they won't hurt anybody.

And no... he doesn't fit in well with the left. Being a sex offender, he is likely a skilled manipulator who wins people's trust.

Should Greenpeace of figured this out? No. Most people don't run FBI background checks on every interview subject. Is it still embarassing? Of course.

But you guys are attempting to equate it with something it's not. But hey... that's why you're here, right? You're rightwing nuts, and there are few sites, save Storm Front that are much further to the right.

I'm gonna go try talk to my fridge now. I have about as much hope of communicating with it as I do you guys.

I believe the NG pipeline is going to be built regardless of the machinations of the anti- oil industry lobbyists.

I think Harper, and even our chief cheerleader,Christy, understand B.C. needs this project to remain a "have" Province.

Imho, they should start building the pipeline with no further delay,BUT the builder,Enbridge has to be held accountable for any problems.

Greens want absolute guarantees about everything we build, but in the real world there are no guarantees. In spite of all your best intentions and hard work, unforeseen circumstances will crop up,and the industry has to be prepared to deal with them.

With several thousand miles of pipelines already crossing North America,I see no reason to delay an economically and strategically important project because we can't guarantee it 100%.

Mr.Harper, cut that review down to about two weeks, and let them get on with it.

Posted by: dmorris at February 13, 2012 3:49 PM

At dmorris, how exactly will the pipeline benefit BC? There will be some jobs to be sure, but all of the profits go to Alberta, while BC takes on the bulk of the risk.

Here's a proposal... how's about the stakeholders in the pipeline promise to sign over every last dime they own to the province of BC should a catastrophic accident occur? I mean everything except for the clothes on their backs. Would they gamble that for a shot at the money they'll make? Because that's what they're asking the people who live nearby to risk for basically nothing.

I'm a lefty. I don't oppose oil production, and I support research into alternative fuels such as nuclear, but the oil sands are a dirty business. Better to leave them alone. I'm sure we'll find a use for them at some later date, and we'll probably figure out a way to extract them with less impact.

Pretty cheesy showing clips of salmon dying in stream in a film about the harm to BC if Enbridge builds the Northern Gateway. Maybe my high school biology 101 was flawed but I always thought that salmon died naturally after spawning in said streams.
Also, not building the pipeline will not prevent those container ships prominently highlighted in those spills at sea from plying the oceans (or hot dogging cruise ship captains for that matter).

Posted by: Texas Canuck at February 13, 2012 4:37 PM

If the Alberta pipeline doesn’t run through BC, how do you propose the Maoist communist Chinese are going to get the oil to run their sweatshops and build their fast growing military empire?

Please don’t suggest something akin to “the sneaky little yellow people don’t deserve our fair trade” as so many on the left seem to be saying lately.

I thought the communist Chinese were supposed to be the darling of the left, enough so that +60 million dead under Mao, and the occupation of Tibet as a minor footnote in history. The massive coal powered plant production without environmental regulation, a bazillion new cars a month on the streets, unregulated dragnet fisheries etcetera, all positive and proactive sources for their deservedly booming economy.

Now you want to cut off their oil from Alberta, because you don’t feel that you get enough profits?

Better yet, why not advocate that Alberta and the Prairie Provinces separate and just pay you transit rights with the equalization payments it would save from other provinces?

Which is why we live with so many convicted but anonymous, early release child rapists in our communities today “fair trails, and treatment” the liberal way:

“Scene of 9-year-old girl's killing a haven for sex offenders”

“The Allen County sheriff's registry shows that 15 sex offenders live at Northway Woods, a small mobile home park with 54 lots, only about 25 of which are occupied. Among them are men with multiple felony convictions for sexual abuse of a minor and child molestation....”

Quite true, Lake Athabaska has never been a healthy region, that's why very few people ever lived there till kabloonak came along. Before the Bennett dam was built the seasonal flow of the Peace river would flush out the western end for a while and people would only be there then.

So what you're saying is that people who work for oil companies are disturbed. Gotcha.

There are good reasons to build the pipeline if it's done responsibly.

The pipeline must be built in the existing rail-highway corridor to minimize environmental impact. No cutting across the wilderness.

The pipeline must be operated responsibly with spill mitigation policies and procedures in place.

As Canadians we should expect nothing less.

I love it that Greenpiss chose -this- knob to be their spokes-creature.

I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that most of the professional Lefties in this country are closet perverts.

North of 60- Pipelines and highways tend to be incompatible. They have very different sets of construction criteria. Highways used a cut/fill system, and follow contours. Pipelines need to avoid following contours, to avoid breakage from landslides. Placing a high pressure pipeline near a highway increases the risk of accidental contact. Pipelines that run through the wilderness are less likely to leak, because they are less likely to have human contact. There's no point trying to create a corridor, when the pipeline would need to divert every few miles.

Greenpeace has greenwashed the video, no longer listed on their website, ha-ha!

Posted by: DanBC at February 13, 2012 7:05 PM

DanBC >

awww, now the little kids can't watch the nice Liberal left man with the shovel digging around the backwoods.

Posted by: Knight 99 at February 13, 2012 7:19 PM

Greenpeace probably figured that he had experience in laying pipe and cleaning up subsequent spills so they decided he was an expert. They didn't spend much time probing into the circumstances under which he was laying pipe.

Posted by: Loki at February 13, 2012 7:28 PM

Kate, looks like Greenpeace removed the page altogether -- the link leads to nowhere on their web site: i.e. "page not found".

The green "truthers" are at it again -- "shovelling, burying and shutting-up" as it were.

North of 60 "the seasonal flow of the Peace river would flush out the western end for a while and people would only be there then."

Did the Peace have much of a natural seasonal flow? The Athabasca sure doesn't. It slows down a bit by the fall and winter. The melt takes many months starting in the flatlands in April with the big flow in June when the glaciers start melting.

WXMI is FOX in Grand Rapids, MI. They cover the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek viewing area where that oil spill from the ruptured line occured.

News tip is on their News page. Right hand side.

Good on Kate for shedding light on Greenpeace and promoting this "film." it's a particularly nasty piece of filth partially created by the registered sex offender. The filmmaker Corey Ogilvie should also have to answer for his lack of due diligence. You can email him at or leave your thoughts on his Facebook page Smalldeadanimals got results with Greenpeace, can we do the same with the film's creator?

Note the map of it's watershed.

Really.????..this guy opposes laying pipe?

"Come here Timmy, let me demonstrate how Big Oil rapes the environment."

Posted by: GregMan at February 14, 2012 8:39 AM

Why does everyone assume he's the worst scum of the earth? What are the details of the case? Was there real evidence or an accusation and circumstantial evidence? If the 'victim' was 13-15 years old, did he even have sex with her or did they make out and then her mom found out and filed charges?

Men often end up on sex offender registries for surprisingly (if you haven't been paying attention) little and false rape accusations are commonplace. Best not to judge until you have all the facts, fun as it may be.

It happen not once but twice.(oops I slipped and my dick accidently got stuck in underaged girls....twice)
Shut your piehole until you get the facts the rest of us have...twit.

@ Oz

If you have facts, show them with links and references. Otherwise you should take your own advice. I never said this guy is innocent, btw, just that there isn't much here to go on. Convictions like this don't always mean much.

Search Facebook for "OgilvieFilm"

this is the film maker that made the original video featuring the sex offender. Time to leave a comment :)

Posted by: Dick Harper at February 14, 2012 7:56 PM

Is he a former priest?

Posted by: Jennifer Mullan at February 14, 2012 10:18 PM

CL, the facts are linked above. The perp appealed, lost and was served jail time. It was two counts, not one. He also falsely claims to have been an Enbridge employee. He's a whacko.

But he's not quite as whacked out as the occupy nutter Corey Ogilvie, who's taken to deleting FB comments questioning his use of Bolenbaugh footage. typical wing nut who considers himself above questioning or criticism... not to mention truth.

Posted by: jack at February 15, 2012 12:06 AM

I am the guy in this video. You have your opinions. Allow me to give mine. I don't know any one from Greenpeace. I have never been to a rally or an event and all that happened was in court I have proved Enbridge didn't clean up the oil properly. I have proved with ten different reporters and camera crews that Enbridge buried oil and lied to the residents and they are now dying and getting sicker by the day. I had consensual 3rd degree statutory sex in 2000 I was in college and 27. I was a cussed of this age crime 7 months later and I went to trial and lost because there is no defense to girls lying about there age. The girls are in support of my reporting the Enbridge cover up and I told the press before i reported the Oil cover up almost 2 years ago. It is old news and it has nothing to do with Greenpeace. I was guilty and I paid my time for my crime. Will you Support a company that has actually killed people in my community or will you let them get away with murder. Watch my videos. As you notice no one can call me a liar because I only report the truth and your only defense is to smear me because I had unlegal consensual sex with two girls on the same night that asked me to sleep with them and court records at trial prove I didn't even start the sex act. They did. I am guilty and I can't change that but I can help my community change the future. Your smear efforts only help us get more views of the Enbridge cover up. My reputation doesn't matter to me. And so everyone knows. Court records prove I was hired with them knowing of my past and I was fired for one reason and court testimony proves that I was fired because I reported and Enbridge oil cover up. And because I went to the press they are saying I violated the policy of no talking to the press. Watch my videos they tell it how it really is. John Bolenbaugh at you tube.

Posted by: John Bolenbaugh at February 16, 2012 11:31 AM

You have 24 hrs to delete my copy writed footage. i gave green peace permission to use it not you. I will sue for violating the LAW and my rights if you don't remove, delete and not use my footage again. This is a binding public notice and i have made a copy for my proof. You have 24 hours starting now. I also contacted You tube to have your account deleted or maybe they will just take my video off. You are committing a criminal offence by using other peoples footage and you can go to jail for it. And I will do my best to take your money and throw you in jail for committing this crime against me.

Posted by: John Bolenbaugh at February 17, 2012 3:38 PM

Copyrighted? Uh, isn't you tube public domain? if that is where the video is posted. Me thinks you are screwed buddy. Rant all you want, there is nothing ileagle about linking a you tube video.
