October 11, 2018: Reader Tips

I’m back from our annual trip to Michigan and Philadelphia specialty shows. We had a lot of fun, scored some good wins, and caught up with good friends.

Thank you to the guest bloggers for filling in where they were able, and to our readers for your patience. Blogging should ramp up towards something approaching normal by sometime tomorrow. In the meanwhile, thread’s open for your tips.

  1. Glad that you’re back safely. Congrats on the wins. Take a bit of time and shake out, then rejoin the battle against the forces of evil.

  2. HT to Spencer Fernando for finding this.

“Finance Professor Slams Trudeau Government Economic Policy, Says They Just Don’t Get It”

“Focusing only on the environment or on social engineering at the expense of working families is elitist. And Canadians are getting the sense that they are governed by a bunch of idealistic and dogmatic college students convinced they will save the world,” says Professor George Athanassakos.

“Nadia Murad, awarded the 2018 #NobelPeacePrize, is one of an estimated 3,000 Yazidi girls and women who were victims of rape and other abuses by the IS army. She has shown uncommon courage in recounting her own sufferings and speaking up on behalf of other victims.”

    1. Probably posted this before but…. but …. it just fits the donkey story.

Dr. FeelGood and the interns: song lyrics

      Hey, all of you women
      Now, don’t come around
      Unless you weigh around
      Four-hundred pounds

      I’m from way down home
And I don’t dig chawing bone

You got to be all right with me
      Because the doctor is
      Really hard to please

      Now you talk about women
      I love ’em all
      I love ’em big and
      Then I love ’em tall

      But if you don’t weigh
      What I want, baby
      Don’t come around at all

    1. It’s not the first time that a Soviet/Russian booster failed. Two incidents are mentioned near the end of the article:

      https://spacepolicyonline.com/news/soyuz-ms-10-launch-goes-awry-crew-ok/

It seems that the Russian space program is in disarray. There is corruption and mismanagement in Roscosmos. Several rockets have failed during launch in recent months and there was a mysterious hole in the hull of one of the Soyuz spacecraft that are docked to the ISS.

      1. NASA’s stake in the business are its two make-work white elephants Orion and the Space Launch System, the latter being more a political pork program than a way of getting anything into orbit. It has been putting roadblocks in the way of companies such as SpaceX in order to ensure that its boondoggles might fly first.

    2. Video of the launch:

The jettisoning of the strap-on boosters and the launch tower didn’t look right. Normally, I would have expected them to separate symmetrically, forming a star pattern as they tumble away from the rocket.

The Soviet/Russian space program’s been plagued with failures over the years:

      http://www.parabolicarc.com/2018/10/11/failures-continue-haunt-russian-space-program/

Also, twice during the Soviet era, there were two launch aborts, one in the mid-1970s and one in the early ’80s.

Thanks for posting these videos of the Soyuz launch. Too bad they had to abort. The speed would be amazing! I especially enjoyed seeing the men inside the rocket. They became weightless. The volume of the ballistic descent was such that I had to remove my headphones. It felt like I, myself, was literally taking off!

  4. Are Bill and Hill in Canada on their “talking tour” yet or have they come and gone without any fanfare from their Liberal friends in Canaduh?

    1. Spot on, Mate!
He speaks straight from the heart! Very funny, so spitting mad! Haha!
      TQ Bill Greenwood

    2. Would that there would be more rants like this that millions could see and hear. Our civilization is falling down around our ears and we need to have a _ _ _ _ _ _ _ rainbow coffee cup.

    1. So, I guess, astronauts are no longer allowed to have the Right Stuff (pun intended). How long before the Apollo moon landings are denounced as acts of a racist and misogynist patriarchy?

      1. I think they will go the whole evils of colonialism route, after all they did leave American flags. Of course they will blame patriarchy because it was all men, conveniently ignoring that the reason no women went to space before Sally Ride is because men had to figure out how to make a zero G toilet women could use. Of course your average feminist will not accept that, as they would much rather just piss all over progress.

    1. It is high time someone put a stop to the western liberal democratic civilization destroyer.

  5. Da liddle shawinigan thief apparently has a book out chronicling his years as prime minister. I saw him interviewed by librano apple polisher don martian. Da liddle thief talked about how awful Trump is. I didn’t realize the Trumpster was President back in the 90’s.
He also heaped praise on the clinton’s……go figure
