Call me cynical, but I can already envision legions of Leftist NPCs (redundant, I know) nodding in agreement about this “brilliant” idea:

Scientists are proposing an ingenious but as-yet-unproven way to tackle climate change: spraying sun-dimming chemicals into the Earth’s atmosphere.

The research by scientists at Harvard and Yale universities, published in the journal Environmental Research Letters, proposes using a technique known as stratospheric aerosol injection, which they say could cut the rate of global warming in half.

The technique would involve spraying large amounts of sulfate particles into the Earth’s lower stratosphere at altitudes as high as 12 miles. The scientists propose delivering the sulfates with specially designed high-altitude aircraft, balloons or large naval-style guns.

    1. Are you sure they’re unintended, that they’re exactly as they want (capitalism destroyed to justify rescue by socialism) and/or they haven’t got enough of a clue or bothered to consult data that would tell them what was intended or not to begin with?

    Now are they not concerned about these sulphates causing acid rain, since that was the boogeyman when we did exactly that using smokestacks.

  7. Each year, we spray a Mount Pinatubo-like amount of sulfates into the stratosphere.

    So, the result of that is it reflects sunlight cooling Earth down a little and reduces vegetation growth (less sunlight) and destroys Ozone (yes sulfates in the stratosphere cause Ozone destruction) and it causes acid rain (the sulfates come down in the rain as acidic SO2 and SO4) .

    You couldn’t make up how crazy these people are if you tried as hard as you could.

  13. This has already been proposed for decades now, it’s called Geo-engineering. It’s been beaten to death as a topic, most notably the moral hazard of doing it because if you believe in AGM in the first place, you are simply doing something a bit good to cover something really bad and if you ever stop doing the good thing the bad will get horrifically bad really fast.

    Never mind the adjudication of the whole thing. Let’s say we do it, but the environment keeps changing, as it’s wont to do and say someone gets less sunlight than before, do they get to sue someone else for buggering up their growing season? Its a commons issue, we’re demonstrably crap at managing the commons, who imagines we could be any better at managing the commons because sky is now blue?

    On a humorous note: the negative side effects remind of jokes about prescription drug ads on tv. Use miracle potion X to cure a headache. Then they rattle through a disclaimer on possible side effects – may cause rash, depression, moobs, hair loss, anal leakage, wrinkles, kidney damage and dementia. Please check with your physician and see if potion X is right for you.

    The sulfur “cure” would/could be worse than the disease. Where’s the precautionary principle when you really need it? Anyone proposing this should be required to take out a multi-trillion insurance bond to cover the unintended consequences, crop failure, acid rain, drought, loss of life, etc. Remember the current rate of warming is quite mild. A headache, not brain cancer.

      Reality translation : it’s warmed 1 degree Celsius in the last 118 years and 1900 was near the end of the little ice age. So this works out to .00847 degrees Celsius per year. A little over half of that 1C was in the “last few decades” or perhaps .009C-.012C per year, depending on the starting year. Very, very mild warming.

      End is Nigh: By the end of the century, the U.S. will be 1.6 to 6.6 degrees Celsius (three to 12 degrees Fahrenheit)

      Reality translation : that range, 1.6C to 6.6C, is so large that it’s meaningless and the official models have always run hotter than actual observations. The 6.6C is likely the RCP 8.5 scenario and the 8.5 scenario has absolutely ridiculous assumptions. Using RCP 8.5 is like using the book of revelations or the population bomb as a reference guide.

      The End is not Nigh. Climate change is following the lukewarmer’s scenario – mild, not catastrophic and favors adaptation over mitigation.

    Maybe the best way to get sufficient particles into the atmosphere would be human sacrifice..these same useless parasites in huge burning piles.
    Eventually everyones tolerance for these righteous halfwits will run out.
    Emissions of particulate matter is the reason our diesel trucks are so expensive and pathetic.(Compared to what they could be without the emissions junk).
    So if these idiots are for real,I recommend “Rolling Coal” on every one of them.

At the same time that we’ve been accused of putting CFCs into the atmosphere which will damage it and then we’re about to destroy it because w’re putting CO2 into the atmosphere we’ve got the same bozos now telling us that they’re going to inject huge amounts of some other chemicals into our atmosphere but don’t worry about it because it will be good for us ?????? My response is, lock this new brand of do-gooder scientists up and do it fast there is not one reason that they should be trusted.
