  1. I imagine the people most in favour of the lock down are also the people who are still receiving a pay cheque of some sort. The “public servants” are quite happy to work from home, I imagine. Teachers still on full pay doing some from of distance learning, and of course the people collecting the extra top up that might even put their unemployment benefit over the salary they were making.

Once government put the hurt on their own employees, you will probably see a shift in a desire to reopen the economy, but I fear that is too late. Even if they remove all barriers, you will have many people who will just not mingle and “take the chance” because they have been frightened for so long. Not to mention to lack of tax dollars at all levels will demand both a cut in spending and a rise in taxes. Most of us know that the bulk of government spending is now in salary and benefits, and so those will need to be trimmed with early retirements or just plain cuts.

I can only hope that politicians hands are forced sooner, rather than later. This is beyond ridiculous now.

  2. Cuts of public sector wages by 10 percent?

No. 40 percent, minimum, and tell them to kiss their pensions goodbye, because there’s no money to pay them.

That’s the scale of belt-tightening they expected from the rest of us on account of “climate change.” Sauce for the goose.

The average civil servant should earn no more than the average industrial wage. Thanks to a generation of offshoring and economic mismanagement, that wage is no longer possible to raise a family on. Time civil servants got a taste of how normal people have to live, viz. hand to mouth, and one bad day away from the gutter.

  3. Those who receive paycheques from state government sources will be in for a shock soon as the tax revenue dries up and there is no money to pay out, jobs will be cut. The feds, well, they just keep printing money and don’t care how much inflation they cause.

    1. Liz, my guess they are just fine as the very wealthy never put up with what we poor plebs have to.

    2. Harry is just waiting for his USA citizenship and he will run for President,,, Democrat… His Mother was golden in the USA… Win going away…..

  4. M.M. what you have said is something I have been saying for a long time. Unfortunately in my case my siblings and other family members think and say what Trudeau is doing is great. One even said he is following ” The Rules For Radicals ” very closely . He thinks this is just wonderful…he is also a staunch NDP supporter. I am sure that when things get tough he will complain like the rest of the socialist crowd and not realize that they brought this on themselves…just my 2 cents worth….Steve O

  5. This should happen to all government levels in this country.
10% cut to start with, except those on the very bottom of pay scale.
Then the whole reward system should reflect the competency of each individual.

Let us see if there are any guts in the political class.
Of course don’t hold yer breath, you may just choke.

  6. A $21 billion annual surplus, WTF. How much debt servicing is that meant to cover? Or does the state admin just live really high on the hog. And all the sudden to be skirting around the word “default” or even “bankrupt”. That’s a dramatic shift for sure. But they do have a massive economic engine, get that driving again they will out perform Canada by a wide margin I’m sure.

  7. Is this for real..??

EXACTLY what I’ve been wanting to hear from Captain Bombast, Jason Kenney.
How about it jason…?? 15% across the board for EVERY PUBLIC SERVANT in the province and 20% CUT across the Board for EVERY MLA…??

That would be a pretty good start.
But I won’t hold my Breath for any of you TROUGH Feeders to do squat.

  8. It is my home and the budget needs huge cuts.
The state employees need cuts, the pension payouts need to be capped and reduced.
The federal taxpayer owes nothing to any state other than Constitutional and legal requirements.
We are NOT “in this together”
If we were it would be all over

  9. California cutting its budget? Has hell frozen over?

Never did I ever think that Canada should follow California’s example for anything, but with Justin’s insane spending spree….

  10. Watch the pea

Newsom insisted his proposed cuts could be prevented by a “stroke of a pen” by President Trump. He called on the federal government to do its by passing the proposed $3 trillion Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions Act, or HEROES Act. The House was scheduled to vote on the bill on Friday, but it is considered dead on arrival in the Republican-controlled Senate.

“The federal government, we need you. These cuts can be negated. They can be dismissed, with your support. This is your moment,” said Newsom. “I want to thank again the incredible leadership of Nancy Pelosi, and I encourage my Republican friends, those on the other aisle and the Senate, to help support the states, help support the cities, help support the counties, help support America and Americans. The HEROES Act is the best approach.”

  11. 25%+- of our fellow americans lost their jobs in the private sector. Their taxes and the taxes paid by their employers help fund local, state and federal governments. When all this sorts out you will find that 25% to 35% of our small businesses will cease to exist.

0% of our fellow americans who work for the government have lost their jobs and in fact many have gotten raises.

This cannot be sustained nor should it be sustained.

I don’t want anyone to lose their job but I believe only if government workers had faced the cuts and job loses that private workers faced, would they have had a realistic and positive attitude about re-opening or not totally shutting down.

In any event it is too late now. I have no sympathy for a government worker who are over paid. That includes all of them, top to bottom.

I will be furious if the federal government bails them out.
