While The Media Diverts Our Attention To Harper’s Cowboy Outfit

Paul Martin is very, very concerned about Information Commissioner John Reid’s attempts to get his hands on Jean Chretien’s agenda books and he’s determined to work very, very hard to ensure it doesn’t happen.
Via BendGovt;

According to media reports, Information Commissioner John Reid has launched the latest round in his lawsuit to try and force the Prime Minister’s Office to release Jean Chretien’s agenda books, accusing the Liberal government of refusing to comply with Canada’s information law, with Paul Martin named as a party in the suit (Ottawa Citizen, July 19, 2005). Reid continues his efforts to try and force the Liberal government to comply with the Access to Information Act.
Perhaps this explains why Paul Martin and the Liberals have decided to ignore Parliament and refused to extend Reid’s appointment for a year. Perhaps Martin and the Liberals are hoping to get rid of Reid and appoint a new Information Commissioner who won’t be so keen to enforce Canadians’ right to information, and who may be willing to abandon this lawsuit.
Points to consider:
* On June 15, 2005, the House of Commons voted 277 to 2, to concur in a report of its Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics that, “The appointment of John Reid, the Information Commissioner of Canada be extended by an additional term of one year, effective July 1, 2005. This recommendation would not preclude Parliament from further extending the appointment after the one year extension.” Martin choose to ignore Parliament and provided only a three month extension for Reid.
* All ministers present (33) voted for the motion to extend Mr. Reid’s term not by three months, but for a year. The ministers voting to extend Reid’s term by a year included Deputy Prime Minister Anne McLellan, Reg Alcock, Mauril Belanger, Carolyn Bennett, Ethel Blondin-Andrew, Claudette Bradshaw, Scott Brison, Aileen Carroll, Raymond Chan, Joe Comuzzi (since left cabinet), Irwin Cotler, Stephane Dion, Ujjal Dosanjh, Ken Dryden, John Efford, David Emerson, Joe Fontana, Liza Frulla, John Godfrey, Ralph Goodale, Bill Graham, Albina Guarnieri, Jean Lapierre, John McCallum, Joe McGuire, Andy Mitchell, Stephen Owen, Pierre Pettigrew, Geoff Regan, Lucienne Robillard, Belinda Stronach, Tony Valeri and Joe Volpe
* This is just the latest example of Martin ignoring the will of Parliament
* Three months means that Reid may not be around to oversee the planned overhaul of the Access to Information Act. Nor will he be able to pursue this case

  1. More proof that Paul Martin’s Librano$ MUST be removed ASAP.
I personally would like to see the whole lot of the Libby rot thrown into prison for life once we get them out of power.

  2. This is just another example of the bigwigs rigging the system in their favour. My godd, how they stink up the place!

  3. Is there any site I can go to that has a comprehensive list of Liberal scandals and dirty tricks over the last 12 years?
I have a good memory but cannot keep track of them all and I want to send it to my sister in Orlando.

  4. Here’s some very interesting breaking news: A huge tunnel has been found underneath the U.S. – Canadian border.

LYNDEN, Wash. Two federal sources have confirmed that a massive secret tunnel connecting the U.S. with Canada has been discovered in the Whatcom County town of Lynden, Wash.
It is believed that it is used to transport drugs, but it could also be related to Homeland Security issues.
    Some arrests have been made.
A press conference is scheduled for Thursday morning.

  5. Good idea, Mike S. My personal hate list goes like this:
“If elected we will scrap the GST” – obviously a lie since day 1, but shows the contempt they have for all of us in telling the lie in the first place.
“No more special deals for friends and insiders” – again, an obvious lie, but an ominous foreshadowing of what came to bear in Adscam and other Lieberal projects.
“The gun registry will save lives and make Canada a safer country, and all at the bargain-basement price of $2 million net.” – Even at the then-current price-per-gun cost of the handgun registry ($90), registering the laughably-low estimate of 6 million guns in Canada would cost a MINIMUM of 1/2 a billion dollars; add plenty of graft for Lieberal friends and insiders, and the current $2 billion cost is just the tip of the iceberg.
The Sea King debacle – no money to replace 35-year-old deathtraps that our forces have to rely on, but PLENTY of money for Lieberal cronies and private jets.
Peppergate – we can’t have protests disturbing Chretien’s or Suharto’s inner peace, can we?
    Patronage galore! – ’nuff said.
Health care – simultaneously claiming to be the “protectors” of universal health care, while chopping health transfers to the provinces.
Rabid anti-Americanism – despite all protestations to the contrary, Parrish seems to be the rule rather than the exception.
Continued regional favouritism – Quebec continues to be the Lieberals’ golden boy, with enough attention paid to the 905 area to keep vote-rich Toronto mollified. Anything west of Ontario? “Back of the bus, redneck.”
And on. And on. And on…..

  6. Since this will have an enormous impact on news coverage, Martin’s latest outrage might just be enough to goose some response out of the brain-dead scribes that pass for journalists in this country.

  7. I find it interesting that while the title of your post is:
“While The Media Diverts Our Attention…”
the first line of your quote is:
    “According to media reports…”
    Hmmmm

  8. “According to media reports…”
    “Hmmmm”
Stop patronizing. You know exactly what is meant by that subject line.
Buring an important, continuing story in the 8th paragraph of an item on page 14 before allowing it to die, while plastering an propoganda photo that has absolutely no news value whatsoever attached to it above the fold on page 1 , is dishonest journalism and an insult to the intelligence of readers.
And around the country, publishers sit at desks scratching their heads at declining subscription numbers – as though the two are unrelated.

  9. Bet they shredded Cruton’s agenda books! (“It was done by mistake-honest.”) Haw!

  10. Iron Lady opines:
“Since this will have an enormous impact on news coverage, Martin’s latest outrage might just be enough to goose some response out of the brain-dead scribes that pass for journalists in this country.”
Hope is a beautiful quality, Madam. But I wouldn’t hold my breath for any sort of human-again epiphany by the MSM journalists.
