Black Like Moo

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, a national animal rights group, posted giant photographs of people, mostly black Americans, being tortured, sold and killed, next to photographs of animals, including cattle and sheep, being tortured, sold and killed.
“I think it is an apt comparison,” said Josh Warchol, 26, of Wallingford, president of the Southern Connecticut Vegetarian Society, which is aligned with PETA.
PETA officials said they had hoped to generate dialogue with the shocking photographs.

… and dialogue they get.

  1. Oh brother…
The “PETAtistas” do share a few things in common with the Islamists:
    1. They’re nuts.
    2. They have lousy PR.*
    3. They’re nuts (oh yeah, I already said that).
    * Maybe they should have one of those touring song-and-dance “team spirit” troops doing shows at school auditoriums.
They could call it “Pets Are People Too.”

  2. I hope they come here … so I can rent one of those hot-dog stands and set up shop across the road.
Really though, PETA is all about noise. As long as someone is paying attention to them, even if it’s negative attention, then they’re happy. If they didn’t keep pulling these outragous stunts, they’d eventually be forgotten and the hordes of the daft and uninformed that fund them would disapear.
Kate, by syndicating the story, you’ve done exactly what those nutbars wanted.

  3. .. and yes, I realize that by posting a comment to the syndicated story, that I too have fallen prey…
    🙂

  4. About a year and a half ago they had a similarly racist campaign called ‘The Holocaust on your plate’. It showed pictures of hamburgers on plates next to pictures of emmaciated Jews in concentration camps during the Holocaust.
Funny how these stories never get the attention of the national media and dunder headed celebrities like Natalie Portman, Pammy Anderson and Bill Maher are allowed to promote PETA on Leno, Letterman etc. without even being called to the mat for it.
Imagine if a similar incident happened with an abortion rights campaign…’nuff said.

    Jean a ‘French governor’
Marriage made her a citizen of France

In the footsteps of Samuel de Champlain, Canadians will not only have a new governor-general when Michaelle Jean moves into Rideau Hall – they’ll also have a new French governor.
That’s one possible conclusion Canadians may reach after a spokesperson for Canada’s future representative of the British monarchy confirmed to the Ottawa Citizen that Jean holds dual citizenship and is a French citizen through her marriage to Montreal filmmaker Jean-Daniel Lafond.
“I will represent the Crown in Canada and I believe in that institution – the oldest in our history. From Samuel de Champlain to Michaelle Jean, we went a long way,” Jean said last week.
Champlain, considered the founder of Quebec, was Canada’s first French governor. In a curious way, Jean’s dual citizenship will make her the country’s latest French governor when she takes up her post in September.
The Prime Minister’s Office says Jean’s dual citizenship was not an issue in her selection as governor-general, pointing out she and her husband are Canadian citizens “by choice” and they brought their adopted 6-year-old daughter Marie-Eden to Canada from Haiti to become a citizen.
Jean, who fled from Haiti to Canada in 1968 with her family, became a French citizen when she married Lafond, who holds dual citizenship, in a civil ceremony in 1990. Lafond, who left France for Canada in 1974, became a Canadian citizen in 1981.
Fluent in five languages, the 48-year-old former CBC broadcaster was approached recently to take on the job to replace Adrienne Clarkson, the current governor-general.

  6. I am waiting for a representative of the Left to use the words “there is no moral equivalance between the historical persecution of Blacks and the commercial use of animals”.
They would be right to say it of course, but it would be something to see the Left have a moment of moral clarity – and uncharateristic.

  7. Seem using Black people as political pawns is in vogue with the batty left this week. First Planned Parenthood uses obtuse stereotypes in it’s latest propaganda… http://www.ppgg.org/redirect.asp?url=easylink.playstream.com/ctsg/progressive/PPGG/PPGG2.mp4 …now the fanatic vegans are using black history as their own little tool to tweak the guilt bone of white urban liberal funding. The Negro slave imagery must have been thought to be a sure sale in that demographic. They are searching for that image that opens the public treasure chest….like Green peace’s wide-eyed, child like seal pup….The NAACP guy hit the nail with his comment about these groups “pimping” dishonest imagery.
I recall the last propaganda campaign PETA used manipulated Christian theology to their political cause. Nothing is too venal for the activist left.

  8. So, by attempting to draw an equivalence between human beings and livestock, is PETA arguing that human beings should be treated as livestock or the other way around?
Such an inability to discriminate on such a basic level leaves open such questions. And even if PETA intends the equivalence to be taken one way, who is to say someone else can’t legitimately interpret it the opposite way?
Such is the pathetic state of confusion in which people find themselves when they wilfully make themselves ignorant about God’s creation and the laws which govern it.

  9. “This is the most hostile audience weve had,” said PETA volunteer Ben Godwin. Wow, and this is just Connecticut! Where else has this bit of performance art played, that had a more favorable reaction than New Haven – Darfur? I see the tour will be continuing down the east coast; any plans to go further south than Washington, DC, or that as far as their courage will stretch?

  10. Canada is now a colony of France. The restoration is complete.

  11. PETAphiles are a danger to all the jobs in the following:
    BBQ manufacturing industry,
    Propane producers
    A1 sauce
    Worcestershire sauce
Failed presidential hopeful’s wife’s company .. Heinz .. various condiments.
    Steak knife manufactures
    Feel lot operators
    Farmers who produce feed
    Truckers
    Butchers
    MacDonalds
    Wendy’s
Purveyor of weight loss remedies and methods
    Shoe manufacturers
    Upholstery companies
    Cook book makers
And what of the lowly rotisery
There are many more … the point is that we are all economically and socially interdependent in ways that cannot be undone by holding up a picture of a lynching while telling us that we shouldn’t be allowed to eat a hamburger.
Apparently the vegan lifestyle leads to vacuous thinking.
Vegetables of the world .. unite and let em eat cow!

  12. PETA = People Eating Tasty Animals. That’s the name of my more rational organization. I’m gonna sue these psychos for copyright infringement

  13. Bat Guano: There was once a website called “peta.org”, which was home of “People Eating Tasty Animals”.. PETA took the owner to court for that domain, and won. (Although I understand there may still be an appeal pending).

  14. Even some conservatives have fallen for PETA’s nonsense. Check out this website by Matthew Scully, former speechwriter for President Bush.
    http://www.matthewscully.com/index.htm
When will these animal rights wackos realize that we are not animals? Animals can’t reason or understand the difference between right and wrong. That means they don’t have any rights and we can kill them or torture them any time we feel like it. It’s called the struggle for life; we won and they lost. A human embryo has a right to life but a dog or a cow is just there to be used by us. I say to PETA and Scully: quit whining about suffering and morality and get over it.

  15. It’s okay to eat meat, but not to torture animals.
And by the way…. we humans are indeed animals .. we are just lucky to be the leading members of our species. Bio is bio and we are not expempt from the cabon cycle of life. Until you die and become a bodyless spirit or more likley simply vanish from existence .. you must, just like all other animals … eat drink, sleep and go potty.
If you disagree with this .. perhaps you are plant life? or some unknown species entirely … and not made of meat.

  16. What did the sheep say when the British Army went back to the Falkland Islands?
    ans: “Daaaaaaaaaad!”

  17. Yeah Duke – torture of any animal should be strictly limited to parading them around naked on a leash…
Not that I want to give PETA any more stupid ideas…

  18. No group has any right to put up posters of humans black or white dangling on the ends of hanging ropes.
I love all animals and appreciate their place in the world. However, only the uninformed who have not *been there*, think the harvest of seal pups by club is inhumane.
It looks awful, but so does chopping off a chicken’s head, and nobody protests that. 73s TG

  19. Madame Jean the newly “annointed” G.G. is a citizen of France – yes – but not for the reason above! She holds dual citizenship not only because she married a French national but she then had to go throught a lengthy application process of several years to obtain her French status. It is not automatic on marriage. One must demonstrate an excellent knowledge of Frenchlanguage and culture and pass other tests altogether a process of 2 – 3 years.

  20. Dual citizenship is entirely permissible in Canada so this is a bit of a non-issue.
It might be more interesting if she were a citizen of, say, Iran.
    JJM
    (a dual citizen)

  21. Steve,
So someone beat me to the punch, eh?
    Damn!
Oh well. I can still get under their skin in smaller ways. As Colonel Kilgore would say: “I like my meat rare but not cold!”

  22. Destruction of habitat kills more wildlife than anything else.
When the PETAphiles bulldoze thier houses and plant trees I’ll stop torturing animals and begin torturing plants…

  23. “Dual citizenship is entirely permissible in Canada so this is a bit of a non-issue.”
It’s not a non-issue. She’s not any old Canadian citizen, but the legal representative of the head of state. She is the linchpin of the Canadian constitution, the person whose job it’s supposed to be to stand above politics and prevent the government of the day from becoming an omnipotent dictatorship (though that’s rather too late at this point, given Clarkson’s total abdication of her respoibility to dismiss a government that no longer had the confidence of Parliament). Yet to quote Lord Denning, from the days before PC, “one man cannot serve two masters.”
