Interview Request

A couple of weeks ago, I received a brief email from a host at 580 CFRA (Ottawa), requesting an interview. There was a mention that they had “stumbled on my website” when researching and that the leader of the Alberta Separation Party had been a former guest. After a few more exchanges, it was decided I’d be a guest late the next Thursday evening.
Wanting to be prepared, I then asked what the topic was, assuming it was on blogging or “western alienation” or something.
Heh. Not quite.

  1. Now that’s funny, and sad, when even the people in the center of the universe are unhappy and helpless at changing anything.

  2. Kate, I know you were pulling a fast one here, but there is a movement in Ont., although, it is very evry small:

i don’t know if there around anymore, and another that’s mentioned is the The Northern Ontario Heritage Party, not sure where there going either.
Actually, if you look at this page, you’ll find everyone wants out, must be the air or something:

  3. Great stuff. We’re about to witness the Balkanization of Canada – which was another idea of Trudeau’s apparently. He thought Canada would be well served if it was like the Baltic States. There’s a guy out here in BC who worked for Trudeau in Finance somewhere, and this was an idea that was tossed around for a while. Everything old is new again. ANYTHING is better than four more years of Librano rule.

  4. Care to share which host? If it was late night I’d guess John Counsell. He’s pretty cool. They do have quite a range of opinions across the board though.

  5. You really do enjoy these mental pranks, don’t you, K? They certainly are amusing! 🙂 More, please!

  6. It is becoming obvious that any Canad that survives will not include Liberal Ottawa. Long past time to turf the crooks out–but where is Ontario in this scenario–specifically the GTA–still hoping to get to the trough?

  7. I really wish you Albertans would stop bankrolling the Liberals:
“OTTAWA — Prime Minister Paul Martin will host a closed-door meeting next week with about 35 big donors to the Liberal Party at an unpublicized fundraiser in Edmonton, Liberal officials said yesterday.
The meeting is billed as an “appreciation event” involving Liberal donors of $5,000, which is the maximum contribution under the new electoral law.
The Liberal Party is struggling to raise cash these days, in part because of the allegations of corruption in relation to the sponsorship scandal.
Mr. Martin has hosted other $5,000 fundraisers in Calgary and Oakville, Ont., and the party is extremely coy about these private events and will not disclose the location of Monday’s meeting in Edmonton. The fundraiser is not listed on Mr. Martin’s official schedule for the day. Deputy Prime Minister Anne McLellan, who represents an Edmonton riding in the Commons, will also be present.

In addition to the closed-door meeting, Mr. Martin will attend a $25-a-person barbecue in Edmonton held by Kent Davidson, chair of electoral readiness in Alberta and the former president of the provincial wing of the Liberal Party of Canada. “The barbecue is the main event. We’re expecting somewhere in the neighbourhood of 500 people,” Mr. Davidson said.”

  9. As a Winnipegger I can say CFRA in Ottawa is my favorite station. Though I listen to Collison once in a while.
About a million people in Ontario voted Reform, I really doubt they are happy with things.
    I support proportional representation.

  10. The rurals and a large portion of the ‘burbs in Ontario are ready to kick downtown Toronto/Ottawa out as well. There is a bigger and bigger rift in this country, and they acuse the big bad conservatives of playing politics of division…
Now Kate vs. Michael Harris would be very entertaining.

  11. David Frum takes on David Asper over the new GG in today’s National Post. Frum trumps Asper in this one, in my humble opinion, essentially pointing out that Canada’s symbolic head of state, the British Monarch, has been usurped by a French citizen. Certainly tells us where this country is going. The TOronto Sun has a piece on how one of the Tory MPs has set up a website so the legions can e-mail the Queen asking for help. They feel that the GG’s role, as their sponsor/mascot, is not well served by having a separatist as head of the country. Last count, 50,000 hits. Also has a link to Buck Palace and the Queen for anybody else requiring royal assurances/therapy.

  12. Asper vs. Frum: not to forget the 3 Aspers, David, Gail & ?, have sent in their $5000.00 donations to Paul Martin’s Librano’s party – maximum for the year!

  13. Mike, that’s compared to the $357-ish they sent the Tories, which the party sent right back. Guess the only REAL conservative media – that is, sincere – are Sun Media Corp.

  14. Trudeau wanted a centralized, absolute unitary state. Hey, I like him less than you do, but you can’t just blame him for anything you don’t like. The striking fact about Trudeau is that he was actually a silly, ineffective little fairy who accomplished very little.
Canada is in trouble for real and substantial reasons which don’t have much to do with that little doofus.

  15. EBT: I agree, for the most part. But Trudeau’s legacy of debt is something that has held taxpayers hostage for decades now and gave rise to the GST and an excessive tax burden that has translated into surpluses for the feds, open to abuse and mismanagement. We’re also seeing the results of his immigration and justice policies, neither of which has changed substantially. And who the hell can forget/forgive the Charter of Rights? We are in trouble and it goes back to a Liberal Party molded by that man, and a media that grew up believing in a Just Society – for the rich elites, Power Corp, etc. The hell with the middle class – let them eat cake.

  16. Okay guys, I live here! Don’t leave me alone with them! Hold me, I’m frightened.

  17. You have a problem with using an obviously superior measurement system? The measurement system of the scientific community and nearly the entire developed world?

  18. Iron Lady: I suggest you do a little more research into the origins of the GST before stating that it was a result of Trudeau’s “legacy of debt.” Suggesting that this was the case, without any mention of the MST which it replaced, demonstrates a serious lack of understanding of the subject.
