She was a nothing grieving mother with a pathetic (not even sympathetic) hope of meeting the Prez. Again. With the relentless attacks on her you have created a media circus and, now, a galvanizing focus for the anti-war movement. Ooops!

    All of a sudden, Scott Randolph gets it.
    I actually felt myself become a republican today. It was around 10am, when I read the latest update of the Cindy Sheehan saga in CNN.com. I then shot over to read some blogs about it, and perused the comments in some of them, which was nothing but a long series of petty (albeit entertaining) partisan bickering.
    Then it happened. The good little democrat in me tied the little noose around his neck and jumped off the stool. He just couldn�t take it anymore.
    Take what? The whining. The constant whining by the extreme left about the reasons for war, the incompetence of this administration, and how we�ve all been lied to, and how we should pull out of Iraq immediately, because, *gulp* our soldiers were in danger.
    Guess what folks�.they signed up to join the Army, not the boy scouts. Anytime your orientation to a new job involves an automatic weapon, you should be smart enough to figure out there�s danger involved. I actually read some people�s comments about many of the soldiers over there being naive�.they weren�t expecting to go to war, so, they should be allowed to go home. Wow.

I’m just suggesting that the monster that is this Sheehan circus, including that wall-to-wall coverage, was in large part created by the bloggers. Until I saw this post, I thought you were staying above the fray realizing just that.

  6. It’s becoming increasingly clear here in the UK that another dead son and his family are being manipulated by a combined front of Muslim and anti-war activists.
    You might recall Jean Charles de Menezes was shot in the London Underground on 22 July by undercover police. It turned out that he was an innocent Brazilian. That someone should die this way is a tragedy in itself.
    The family wants answers from the UK authorities. Fair enough. Their grief and anger are completely understandable.
    HOWEVER, I think it’s more than a coincidence that:
    a. Their UK lawyers are Harriet Wistrich and Gareth Pierce – both longtime activists for various causes, including opposition to the war in Iraq and support for certain Muslim political groups.
    b. In the UK, a couple of Asians with Muslim names and British accents keep popping up around the de Menezes family. Just today, Alessandro Pereira, cousin of Jean Charles, appeared at a TV press conference to read a prepared statement (his English was very faltering) and was flanked by two individuals. One I recognized as an British Asian male from earlier TV appearances. The other, a young woman, might have been Brazilian or East Asian BUT spoke very good British English. Who are they?
    I sense that the anti-Blair coalition and militant elements of the UK Muslim community are building up a shrill attack on the police in an attempt to deflect public attention away from the actual bombings of 7 and 22 July.
    Let’s watch and see.

    But raising this into a fuss, bloggers have given it clarity. Cindy Sheehan’s grieving mother theater — a propaganda boon for the antiwar crowd and their sympathizers in MSM (just check out what the coverage was like before right wing bloggers started answering back) — has been, at the very least, problematized; for my part, I’ve been analyzing the rhetoric behind the whole campaign in order to break through the insidious identity politics underlying Ms Sheehan’s supposed moral authority to show that criticizing a political act — and that’s what this has become — cannot be shouted down as a “smear,” etc.

    The number of deaths in WWII would be equivalent of 9/11 happening every day for over 62 years. US went into Iraq to sort out the WMD’s. No US went into Iraq for the OIL. Do you seriously think they would be there if it wasn’t?

I, as a Canadian am grateful to the brave men and women who are fighting terrorism on behalf of everyone. May I humbly suggest that the u.s.o set up a canteen for terrorist in baghdad and staff it with kerry, moore, kennedy and paul martin from Canada.

    I have to concur with ebt insofar as it’s not bloggers [alone] who are making a big deal about Cindy Sheehan. She’s been on the local news here in Dallas at least every other night for the past two weeks; featured on the front page of the local paper, reported on network news in the evenings and in the mornings – none of those are connected to blogs. And, as the New York Times has been so fond of pointing out with regards to the ‘Air America’ scandal, the MSM decides for itself what is newsworthy – it’s not driven by people in pajamas.
    If no conservative blogger had ever said a word about her, the MSM media would still have generated a frenzy of publicity over Cindy Sheehan. Are some blogs obsessing? Yes. But since all blogs are admittedly editorial in nature, I see that as immaterial. If Kate, or anyone else, wants to post five times a day on who Pierre Trudeau dated*, that’s her prerogative. You can’t condemn such blogging on any grounds other than *your* opinion, which is no more or less valid than the author of the blog – but since it’s their blog, guess who’s the boss???
    * – Fertile ground, Kate. Think about it!!! Especially since one of them is now coming off a major HBO *adult* show with a role in a Disney movie?!?!?!

  20. Cindy Sheehan has responded to President Bush’s comments concerning meeting her and has posted her response in The huffington Post. The first statement Cindy Sheehan makes that comes off as anti-democratic is this one and I quote Cindy Sheehan- ” Does anyone else know what “democratic” means? It simply means majority rule. Not some high-minded, free-floating, pie in the sky ideal. It means 50 percent plus one.” Cindy Sheehen in that particular statement actually attacks 51 % majority rule as a bad form of government and if you can read anything else into that, defending that statement, please make your comment at the end of this post. I would like to say to Cindy Sheehan that 50 plus one is much better then Saddam’s 1 % plus brutal totalitarian rule in which the 1% Saddam, rules 99 % of the entire population. Maybe Sheehan has met with some socialist organizations that oppose democratic forms of government. I did notice that a socialist website called ‘Socialist Worker Online’ is running a rather large article advocating Sheehans position. Cindy Sheehan actually gave an interview to the Socialist Worker Online, she spoke to Socialist Worker�s ERIC RUDER which is mentioned at the beginning of the article. In her interview with the Socialist Worker Online she says and I quote ” Some people may think that we�re fighting terrorism over there. But when is that job ever going to be complete? Terrorism is just a new �ism.� It was �communism� when I was growing up.” Here Cindy Sheehan is discounting the validity of the threat of communism in the past as just a made up ” ism.” I believe history taught us that communism brutally oppressed and killed millions of innocent people and is still somewhat of a threat today in places like North Korea where millions have died from starvation due to KimYong II, brutal rule. Cindy Sheehan later went on to say and I quote ” I DEFINITELY think that we should support war resisters in the military”. I will leave that statement up to the readers interpretation, but it sounds to me to border on subversion and treason.     The next statement Cindy Sheehan makes is both inaccurate and untruthful and I quote
    “This is the biggest smokescreen from him yet. I didn’t ask him to withdraw the troops, I asked him what Noble Cause did Casey die for.” Actually Cindy Sheehen didn’t ask Bush, she demanded that he “bring the troops home now”, here is a quote from her statement made on August 18 2005 and carried by ABC News “”If George Bush comes out here today or if we leave here at the end of August, this is only the beginning, and we’re not going to stop until our troops are brought home”, I would suggest that means a withdrawal what would you think it means? Also in this ABC article written by Eric Noe it is stated ” In addition to requesting a meeting with Bush, Sheehan is now calling for an immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. I have myself watched Cindy Sheehan on national television say time and time again “bring our troops home now” but she has stated that she has never intended to ask Bush that question. I smell another lie. Whats really strange is in Cindys own article she just released today she says this and I quote ” Then bring our troops home. The status quo in Iraq is awful”, if you ask me she cant even get through one article without contradicting herself. She goes on to imply that America is spreading “imperialism ” by what she says is 14 permanent bases being set up in Iraq the size of Sacramento, California. I dont know if there is any United States military bases on the entire planet Earth the size of a large U.S. city,if there is please let me know ok. By the way the interview Cindy Sheehan gave to the Socialist Worker is the same Socialist worker who ran this article entitled ” The Meaning of Marxism” in which they praise Marxism to no end.
