  1. No surprise. Blogger says the neo-Nazi bloggers think today’s Germany has a Nazi regime.
Persia was renamed Iran in 1935: Aryan.
Remember the Mufti of Jerusalem. …-
    Some history:
    Excerpt:
Relations between Berlin and Tehran were strong from the moment Hitler came to power in 1933. At that time, Reza Shah Pahlavi’s nation was known as Persia. The shah became a stalwart admirer of Hitler, Nazism and the concept of the Aryan master race. He also sought the Reich’s help in reducing British petro-political domination.
So intense was the shah’s identification with the Third Reich that in 1935 he renamed his ancient country “Iran,” which in Farsi means Aryan and refers to the Proto-Indo-European lineage that Nazi racial theorists and Persian ethnologists cherished.
The idea for the name change was suggested by the Iranian ambassador to Germany, who came under the influence of Hitler’s trusted banker, Hjalmar Schacht. From that point, all Iranians were constantly reminded that their country shared a common bond with the Nazi regime.
Shortly after World War II broke out in 1939, the Mufti of Jerusalem crafted a strategic alliance with Hitler to exchange Iraqi oil for active Arab and Islamic participation in the murder of Jews in the Mideast and Eastern Europe. This was predicated on support for a pan-Arab state and Arab control over Palestine.
During the war years, Iran became a haven for Gestapo agents. It was from Iran that the seeds of the abortive 1941 pro-Nazi coup in Baghdad were planted. After Churchill’s forces booted the Nazis out of Iraq in June 1941, German aircrews supporting Nazi bombers escaped across Iraq’s northern border back into Iran…-

  2. “Zionism” is only a problem in Dr. Ahmahdinejad’s mind. No serious major world power is even going to entertain turning back the clock to 1948.
Iran lies in the ‘cradle of civilization’; why not take some lessons from the Israelis and learn how to make the desert green and fertile instead of an oversized glass factory?
Israel and US envy is a mugs game, get over it and move on. Gee Iran doesn’t have enough petrodollars to bootstrap their own economy?
I find it re”Merkel”ble that “Mah-mood” is feeling so suppressed.

  3. What an awful article. It actually contains the sentence: “Zionism is a political movement that supports a homeland for the Jewish people in Palestine, now the state of Israel.” Yeesh.
Nevertheless, at the end of the day, Ahmadinejad is nothing more than a puppet of the elitist autocrats under Khomeni. In the game of geo-politics, it is always a mistake to confuse the front-man for the back-room operations.
Interesting that Sistiani has been sounding reasonable, yet again. I wonder what his real agenda is. Maybe he’s actually a relatively good guy? Maybe he realizes that, as Victor Davis Hansen – tinyurl.com/mhyxt – puts it:
“If they are not careful, a Syria or Iran really will earn a conventional war — not more futile diplomacy or limited responses to terrorism. And history shows that massive attacks from the air are something that the West does well.”

  4. Persia was renamed Iran in 1935
A bit OT, but…not quite. That was the year that Iran formally asked the world to recognise the name they themselves had been using all along. Kind of like Mumbai/Bombay.

  5. Let me get this straight.
A holocaust denier writes the German leader, asking her to solve the problem with “the Zionists”?
The ghost of Evelyn Waugh wrote that letter, didn’t he?

  6. a prediction if I may:
when armageddon happens and Israel is invaded from the east as the good book says, I think that Germany is going to send its army to the defense of the promise land as an act of atonement and support and restitution for the holocaust.
at that time the Jewish people will finally and fully forgive them, regardless of the strategic impact it has.
    decision time people !!!

  7. “It’s all related to Germany and how we have to find a solution to the Palestinian problems and Zionism and so on”
We old timers have a real aversion to “solutions” to the “Jewish problems”. Last time around was enough for one lifetime.

  8. Germany isn’t even a shadow of its’ former self…and that’s a good thing. Maybe they can volunteer to help the American’s fix the Persian problem before Ethiopia shames them by volunteering first. That shame would be in addition to the embarrassing deja’vu the German’s are reliving due to Ahmadinejad’s letters and unbridled media propaganda. May they leave their old jackboots to rot away in the dark corners of their history and let themselves emerge fully as a strong light in this world.

  9. Alas, D. Morris, it is not yet clear to me that “last time around was enough for one lifetime”.

  10. Not quite sure what you mean, Vitruvius, but in the meantime I thought I might hip you all to a primo example of the jackasses who operate in the “alternative press” here in Canada – this one coming from a petulant Ward Churchill wannabe at Ottawa’s “Xpress” freebie, who bemoans that any sort of conflicts had to break out just because of Hezbollah and the mere fact that a few “G8 grade capitalists” died on 9/11:
    http://www.ottawaxpress.ca/news/highbias.aspx?iIDArticle=9839
Came across this en route to Dan Savage’s “Savage Love” column – the only rationale to read this rag – and it managed to piss me off enough that I wasn’t sure how to condense my thoughts for a response.

  11. Oops Vitruvius; I failed to notice that I wasn’t the only “D Morris” in this thread…who would have thought?

  12. When this Iranian leader has nuclear weapons with which to attack people, then his ‘problems’ will become much more clear.
Hopefully Tehran is a smoking hole in the ground long before that happens.

  13. CTV this morning asks “expert” if Bush has a Fundamentalist Christian Armageddon agenda, evidenced by his letting Israel wipe the floor with Lebanon.
CTV: you meant DinnerJacket didn’t you?
Get George and Steve into no-win posture: GWB a war-monger if he does not intervene. GWB a war-monger if he does.
The Liberal (LPC) MSM in Canada is running in high gear to slap down Israel and George W. Bush. Disgusting. Embarassing.

  14. About Rachel Marsden
“Among other things, she’s been convicted
of being a stalker, she caused a
scandal at a B.C. university after making
false rape accusations, and she was busted
last year working for an MP under a fake
    name.”
Ya, she’s quite a character, but not on my reading list.
