Hey John, funny story about that halftime show. My nephew was sitting in the section with a lot of those little girls who did the cheerleading, and he overheard one of them telling her mother “Hey mom, we got to dance right next to a dead guy!”
Somebody had pretty good seats, looks like 40 yard line maybe 15 rows up.

I missed the “beheading” of the quarterback, as I left for the lightless facilities just before halftime started. I wonder if SaskPower sponsored the game…
I’m not with Gormley on this topic. I think the girls should have gone ahead, as long as they weren’t in the way of the medical crew. People get injured in football, and as long as they aren’t clearly dead, it’s not disrespectful to go on with the event.

Actually, there’s been lots of talk about their lacklustre performance. The baby cheerleaders are only going to steal their thunder for a few more moments before attention returns like a lazer beam to the future of the coaching staff.

Don’t joke, cal2. On my commute in to T.O. this morning, the sports radio guys were speculating about bringing back Doug Flutie to the Double Blue, and Adam Rita wouldn’t rule it out in an interview. Egad.
And as far as Crouch is concerned, Heisman or not in college, he’s an NFL washout and a third-string CFL pivot until he proves otherwise. Yesterday was a good start.
Never made it Regina for the game. Don’t plan to for awhile, either.
Was a season ticket holder ’til the end of the 2004 season. Never saw a whole lot of positives on the horizon with DB and RS in the house. I told the marketing people with the Riders (after they had phoned to remind me I only had 2 days to renew or lose my precious Section 25 seats) that as long as DB was on the sidelines, I’d take my chances and put my money into a golf membership.
At least when I’m on the golf course and get upset at something stupid, I can’t just tee it up and rip it on the next hole. Something tells me that Mosaic Stadium security staff wouldn’t appreciate a Taylor Made R7 Quad and Pro V being pulled out of the bag in the first quarter.
How bad has it been? I never even bothered listening to the game on Saturday. You know your team sucks when thoughts of listening to it on the radio give way to watching a Holmes on Homes repeat, followed by a re-run of CSI.
Someone let me know when they finally turf Barrett & Shivers so I can resume watching the game I love!
In the meantime, I’ll be out back with my lob wedge and a cold beer listening to the Jays…(baseball…ugh)
Too bad the hit isn’t on the CFL’s “hits of the week” (cfl.ca) As for Smiling Hank here in Calgary, he stuck the ball in teh guys hands, the recieving corp just dropped them too many times at key times.
Although, a 50 yard field goal, with out the wind helping, has got to be worth the price of admission.

…I know I’ll get flak from teary eyed howlers out there, but maybe it’s time to think of revamping ‘our game’ to fit the US version.
Watched the Edm/Wpg CFL game and got a little bored with run/pass/kick, run/pass/kick, pass/pass/kick.
Sure the final few minutes were exciting (dunno why Edmonton decided to blitz when they had Wpg deep in their end zone).
Let’s use 4 downs, field at 100 yards, move goal posts to the end of the 10 yard end zone, and use smaller footballs.
Keep the 5 yard kick rule, smartest thing CFL has done.
That way there will be more integration with the NFL, the evolution of the game. Just like how hockey has changed (still waiting for European sized rinks, but alas, not economically feasible – doesn’t fit into the greed picture) so too the CFL must change.
Would be nice to have more games or best of 3 finals.
its the happenings of a league of between 8 and 9 and sometimes 12 teams when there are only 6 starting quarterbacks to go around.

I’m just going to hazard a guess that you haven’t been to a CFL game in some time Tomax. My suggestion to you is buy NFL Sunday Ticket and stick to commenting on topics you seem to know something about, like politics.

The CFL is the most exciting brand of football around. 4 downs and a smaller field will completely remove the elements of the pass that make it exciting.
The wider field is an impetus for the pass, allowing only 3 downs forces the teams into a throwing offence. Excitement is not watching some brute push up the middle over and over.
It’s watching a scrambling qb make a fifteen yard throw and a receiver run for twenty more.
As a rider fan, I can tell you that a running qb with no arm will not win in the CFL. Run sure, but you have to have the arm to move the ball.
There is plenty of opportunity to watch four down football in the fall, there is no reason to upset 100 years of history just because they do it differently.
You were bored with run/pass/kick and pass/pass/kick because there wasn’t a run/1stdown/pass/reception/td etc. That isn’t the fault of the game, that’s the fault of the team.

Drago: 😉 I think wider rinks would make the game faster – but then again it might bring back the clutch/grab game as the slower types would have to revert to those, uh, skills.
I do miss when the ref’s put the whistle away in the 3rd.

…one thing I see the CFL is starting to look more and more like the European hockey teams – being plastered with advertising on jersey’s, helmets, and so on.
Kinda distracting watching human billboards run/skate around, but yes, they have to raise money somehow.

I don’t think moving the CFL game to mirror the NFL would be a good thing. I enjoy both brands and love the differences. If the CFL became more like the NFL it would become redundant and likely fold. The beauty is the difference. The NFL is like a chess game. The 4 downs creates a lot more opportunity to get those 10 yards, creating more problems for the defence to stop them. The CFL is faster paced and the 10 yards is harder to get running the ball, therefore we have scramblers and more of a passing game. In the NFL scramblers usually have short careers (McNair, who seldom runs now) or move north (Flutie for example).
