Hmm… y’know, as “I’m movin’ on up” (albeit to the north side rather than the east side) this coming weekend, this post makes me think that I ought to look into getting into more serious blogging on my free time so as to attract advertisers who’d otherwise waste their money with moonbat MSM outlets, thus getting myself a piece of the (ad revenue) pie…
The future of information/news/opinion dissemination is online, and this means that big MSM outlets have competition from those who aren’t heavily-monied as they are. This is where it’s going.
We have the opportunity to hitch a ride on the change wagon to be part of what’s to come. I believe that the ability to predict where things are going to go and to work with it all will take some of us from relative obscurity to something bigger, and perhaps with some kind of revenue.

Newspapers are not nearly so bad as you describe. Indeed they probably do as good of a job in reporting the news as they ever have. Perhaps better.
The world, however, has changed. The internet is one obvious difference. Another is demographics. Canada has never had such a well-educated and experienced population as it has now. When some wet-behind-the-ears reporter, obviously chosen for the position in part because of their looks, keen to bring social justice to the world with freshly minted communications degree in hand, breathlessly informs us of the facts — well, we don’t buy into it the way we used to. We’re jaded and skeptical. We know the tricks, perhaps better than the reporter.
It’s not newspapers that have changed so much as us.
As Kate points out the media has talked down the American economy in order to help the Democrats get elected – a bad economy usually hurts the incumbent party. I also seem to remember a lot of talk coming from Canada, Europe and the Far East about how a faltering American economy would not hurt the rest of the world. Many in these countries seemed gleeful at the prospect of the Americans being put in their economic place. I wonder how they feel now?
Writers like Steyn should have a regular column in a paper. It’s the irony, that the “entertainment” section is more informative and engaging than the the news section………….

While my mental health relies on a daily sampling of The Wall Street Journal, the New York and L.A. Times are getting what’s coming. By the way, if you want a letter published, write something at the height of your anger and send it without editing. Believe me, it will get published. I’m much more careful now. Strangers in Sacramento, my auto service manager here and suppliers in New York City have caught me out on letters I forgot I sent. That’s not really how one wants to be immortalized, but I’m just demonstrating how to get letters published. Foolproof.

Just because some media are as apocolyptic about the economy under a Republican president as they were under a Democratic president does not mean they are (a) “embarking on a campaign… to damage Bush” and (b) wrong about the economy (hyperbolic, sure, as they ALWAYS are regardless of the idiot in the White House, but not wrong).

Uh, Ted, I remember the coverage of the Clinton years a little differently than you do. I remember hearing about the “Clinton Miracle” when the US economy did about like it has the last few years. Unemployment rates were about the same then as now. Now every other story is doom and gloom about the economy and, of course, the old standby “Global Warming.” The liberal media types still brag about Clinton balancing the budget while forgetting that he lowered spending by gutting the military. If Barry Hussein gets in he will be hailed as the second coming.
And now guess what has happened, newspapers in California our outsourcing their editing and layout jobs to India, and a chain in Florida is laying off 1350 people. Wonder how that will affect the Nov elections, newrooms almot empty, who will write the spin.
And not one head of any media outlet or their workers have suggested, hey lets tell the truth, the economy is not sinking, Bush is disliked by some but not hated by all, the war is being won, Obama is dangerous and not the second coming.
