Twelfth century Benedictine abbess Hildegard von Bingen, a deeply religious woman beset by visions, was a polymath of sorts – an early pharmacologist, poet, preacher, visual artist, and composer. Here are the Benedictinians of Abbey St. Hildegard in Eibingen, Germany (where von Bingen’s remains are encased in stone) chanting von Bingen’s Spiritus Sanctus.

  1. Hell hath no fury like…
“Dying Girl, 7, Taunted by Neighbors
“Her family says 7-year-old Kathleen Edward is in the final stages of a degenerative brain disorder diagnosed as Huntington’s Disease – the same disease which killed her mother, Laura Edward, when she was only 24.
“Neighbors Jennifer and Scott Petkov, who have been feuding with the family, admitted to posting grim depictions of Laura and Kathleen on Facebook. One photo depicts Laura in the arms of the grim reaper, while the other features Kathleen’s face as part of a ‘skull and crossbone.’
“The couple hitched a coffin to a pick-up truck in front of the house, which they say is nothing more than a halloween decoration.”
Now, it sounds bad, but it turns out that the Petkov’s had every reason to be so livid. And vengeful. And obsessive. And….
“A member of Kathleen’s family says the bad blood started about two-years ago after the two families had a falling out over a birthday party at the Rose house. At the party, kids were using a ‘bounce-house’ and playing games in the front yard. The source says that Jennifer Petkov texted someone in the Rose family, asking if her kids could come to the event. A response to the text did not come quickly enough and it angered Jennifer. According to the Rose family, she’s been harassing them ever since.” (emph. mine)

  2. Hildegard of Bingen proclaimed her times an effeminate age, and because of the shame – God has transformed the “Virgo” into a thundering “Virago”.
Seems that women are taking up the gauntlet in this age also, there is certainly evidence of effeminacy.

  3. It is low, Matt (10:13), but from what I could glean it seems that they weren’t “white trash”-y (in the sense of the socioeconomic slur) but rather upper-middle class “status”-y, as in “how dare you scorn my darling princess daughter!
I’ve met a few upper-class types who will not abide by being ‘scorned’….it can border on sociopathy.

  4. When I tried to bring up your site I got directed to a page that said danger this site has malware. Just so you know.

  5. Kate or EBD, do you know how to stop the irritating “this site has been identified as malware” warning? I suspect it’s because someone has identified SDA as being infected, as they disagree with something that’s been posted or commented on….

  6. Several people have now commented on this. Are you getting it from the main page or when you click on one of the comments threads?

  7. I also got a warning that there was an attempt to attack my computer when I came onto the site. Having read these comments I left the page and came back and got the warning again.

  8. I’ve pulled the link to the P.J. O’Rourke book. Let me know if the problem continues – I get no warning here, so it’s hard to figure out what has happened in the past hour or so to set warnings off.

  9. Kate, this only happens when the main page is loaded, not when I click to load the comment page. As noted, it didn’t happen before a few hours ago. maybe 2 hours ago.

  10. Just saw that malware warning as well, on Google Chrome… it said that it was because it contained elements of http://www.bloggingtories.ca... I ignored it because I need my SDA fix.
    Here’s the message:

Warning: Visiting this site may harm your computer!
The website at https://www.smalldeadanimals.com contains elements from the site http://www.bloggingtories.ca, which appears to host malware – software that can hurt your computer or otherwise operate without your consent. Just visiting a site that contains malware can infect your computer.

  11. I had the same thing happen, but several months ago. I have since changed my antivirus software.
A couple of weeks back Microsoft had the largest number of updates ever – was reported on Drudge, I had a message to install 25 updates on my system, then yesterday(?) I received another update notice for a large file update that included changes to all of the multi-media (photo, music, movie, software etc.) and changes to the internet browser – something to do with Bing and changing ones internet settings – I didn’t install it.
While I am certainly no expert – that’s for sure, I am wondering if all the new automatic updates or your antivirus programs might have something to do with the warnings. I don’t use google chrome or explorer – prefer Firefox. Ok – this is very weird – I just received a message for the very first time while typing this message that Norton wanted to do a security scan on my system – I don’t have Norton – never have had Norton antivirus – Started scanning my computer – I stopped it so now I will need to do a scan with my real antivirus or download one online in case it corrupted mine.
Note: I do not access SDA through a web search, I always type the address in the address bar – this time I did do a web search to see if I would get a malicious warning – I did not, yet I received this weird Norton one while on the SDA site.

  12. It looks as though it may have been triggered by something on the bloggingtories.ca blogroll. I’ve disabled it. We’ll see if that helps.

yes, the tamils were so much more productive members of society when they were regularly closing dundas street and using their women and children as human shields to stop traffic on the gardner expressway. we won’t speak of promoting terrorism as that would be disrespectful. of course any mention of homophobia must have been the brain child of the fat, obese, corpulent rob ford. and let’s please let the next boatload of tamils in with no investigation whatsoever, since there’s a decent chance we can convince them to vote the way we want them to vote next time.

  14. btw, malware problems continue to exist with safari… accessing through firefox thankfully posed no problems

  15. Kate, it’s cured for SDA.
*not all of the blogging tories sites were affected. Halls of Macadamia, blogquebecois, Damian Brooks, are still,

  16. I get the warning in Firefox but not in explorer. The report is supposedly from google.

  17. Still a problem – switched to explorer after doing a history cookie wipe. Received a msg after the Norton program (fake) loaded onto my computer despite denying it access with my current antivirus. Get the warning below, and when I choose “Ignore” instead of “Get me Out of Here” or “Why Was This Page Blocked” My page is redirected to a site asking for a donation – called “Stop Badware” – will not let me access forward or back buttons and boots me off your site with no choice. When I key address in address bar it will direct me to your page; however, the page is all wonky and if I click on comments I get this:
    Reported Attack Page!
This web page at https://www.smalldeadanimals.com has been reported as an attack page and has been blocked based on your security preferences.
Attack pages try to install programs that steal private information, use your computer to attack others, or damage your system.
Some attack pages intentionally distribute harmful software, but many are compromised without the knowledge or permission of their owners.

  18. I got the “Warning – visiting this site may harm your computer!” just now, with Google, but I had no problems last night.

  19. FireFox is now reporting SDA as an attack site. I had to use Internet Explorer to post this comment.

I don’t have to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad. It’s a depression. Everyone is out of work, or scared of losing their job. A dollar buys a nickel’s worth. Banks are going bust. Shopkeepers keep a gun under the counter. Punks are running wild in the street and there’s nobody anywhere who seems to know what to do and there’s no end to it. We know the air is unfit to breathe and the food is unfit to eat. We sit watching our TVs while some local newscaster tells us that today we had 15 homicides and 63 violent crimes as if that’s the way things are supposed to be.
We know things are bad. Worse than bad. They’re crazy. It’s like everything everywhere is going crazy. So we don’t go out anymore. We sit in our house. And slowly the world we’re living in is getting smaller. And we say, “Please, at least leave us alone in our living rooms. Let me have my toaster, and my tv, and my steel belted radials. And I won’t say anything. Just leave us alone.”
Well I’m not going to leave you alone. I want you to get mad! I don’t want you to protest, I don’t want you to riot, I don’t want you to write to your congressmen, because I wouldn’t know what to tell you to write. I don’t want to do about the depression, and the deflation, and the Chinese, and the crime in the street. All I know is that first you’ve got to get mad. You’ve got to say, “I’m a human being goddamnit! My life has value!”
So I want you to get up now. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up right now and go to the window, open it, and stick your head up and yell, “I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anywhere.”
I want you to get up right now. And go to your windows, open them, and stick your head out and yell, “I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore.”
Things have got to change. But first, you’ve got to get mad. You have to say, “I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not going to take it anymore.” Then we can figure out what we’re going to do about the depression, and the deflation, and the deficit crisis. But first, get up out of your chairs, go to your window, stick your head out and yell, “I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not going to take this anymore!”
I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore!

  21. Firefox users;
    Click on Tools
    Click the Options menu,
Then click on Security then uncheck the Block reported attack sites
This is a go around I’m using till this Google crap warning is resolved
Not my anti-virus nor Spybot is picking up anything bad.
    Posted with Firefox

  22. I could overide the warning for the main site but Firefox/Google would not let me enter this comment page until I altered my security.
BT has the same problem. BCF no problem at all.
    Big Brother at work.

  23. Cbc,the world’s most expensive newsfilter, has a story up on their website about the leader of the “so-called” Toronto 18. No mention of any religious affiliation, and of course,no comments allowed.

. This may be an isolated incident (yeah sure),however on the same page they have an article about the shootings in Winnipeg.Even though all the other news sources are saying the police are looking for an aboriginal man,the cbc did not. Once again,no comments allowed.

  24. I had no problem accessing this site on my main machine with the Firefox security lock ON.
Indecently, When I accessed your site om my laptop, much of the HTML format seemed to be missing, ie I was getting the “text”, but no layout. The same thing (without the attack warning) has been happening on other sites. I have a running battle with the techs at NASCAR.com because sometimes it formats, and sometimes I only get text. It was text on my laptop this morning but full format on the desk unit.(Seems to go bad when they are posting “live” race updates, so I suspect there is a java thing going on)Work fine on IE.
Laptop is running FF 3.6.10, while the desktop is now 3.6.11

Now when I submit the comment, I get the attack site warning. When I remove the security, you tell me I have submitted “too many comments in too short of time”.
Sorry. Was just trying to help.

  26. On the road and when trying to get into ‘Blogging Tories’ through Google, this is the result, even though there is also the safe green arrow indicator:

I have SDA bookmarked and it comes up without warning as usual- at the moment at least.
    Interesting…no?

  27. I could not get to SDA today thru firefox. Its reporting it as an attack site (Got here with IE)
    Firefox is the latest 3.6.11
What can we do about this, other then continuing to use IE ?

  28. Followed G’s advice posted earlier. That worked.
Of course that means I’m not really protected from real “attack” sites though.
    Use with caution I guess….

  29. DON’T SHUT DOWN YOUR SECURITY!! There really is something going on here. My antivirus keeps detecting a connection from sstew.forgottoncelebs.com/home/1 when I go on BT. Most likely a virus infection that is trying to spead to anybody who logs onto BT or any of it’s blog. Be careful!

  30. “DON’T SHUT DOWN YOUR SECURITY!! There really is something going on here.”
very good advice. I did’nt though. I just turned off the warning thru firefox. My AV is still running just fine (no warnings from it yet)
