“The Complete Stupidity of the Western Left”

Mark Steyn joins the boys at Ricochet for a lively discussion about current events. Here’s the show summary:

Our old pal Mark Steyn returns for a rollicking podcast where we cover everything from Egypt to Ireland’s boom to Rob’s sexual harassment class. Then, Sally Zelikovsky — who has the unenviable job of heading up the San Francisco Tea Party — joins to tell us how she spends her time deep behind enemy lines. We wrap things up with conversation that winds from Chet Baker to Charlie Sheen that details the actor’s unique stimulus plan for shoring up falling home values. Two words: Porn House.

  1. Pleasant background banter while working at the pooter. “We don’t have a bad dog food advertising problem, we have bad dog food.” was one of Stein’s gems.

  2. Another Steyn gem: “The President wants high speed rail, perhaps what we need is a high speed underground railway”

  3. “America was built by children who went unfederally heated to school. The federally heated generation has destroyed America.” –Mark Steyn
I’ll have you know Mr Lileks, our unheated Carter era bus drivers were strongly advised not to smoke while driving in a concerted effort to spare stray livestock. Such impairment of the reflexes would not be tolerated long as everyone readily understood who paid said salary. Now, not smoking makes one morally superior while smugly warm.
Say, shouldn’t illegals get in-state heating at cost?

  4. Steyn: “What are these Republicans always going on about how we mustn’t wind up like Europe? What’s so bad about this? And I think the lesson is that Europe’s decline can be quite agreeable when you’re living on the accumulated cultural capital of the past. It takes a while for the fact that there is no future to set in.”
Americans are no longer going to Europe to marry for titles or estates and bringing their cash with them. (Little wonder Churchill stands alone.) Who wants to run afoul of Amnesty International selling jihad memoirs at Ivy school reunions. Marxists have killed the European product. To do the grand tour now means top drug and STD ports o’call with anti something blog posts relating to any heritage tourist location or third world volunteer work you literally pay for that undermines the local economy and work force. Genealogy and those dead languages have lost all their romance you h8ter.
America is the leftover product. Now Somali pirates bring their ill gotten gains as they are smuggled across the Mexican border into the U.S. illegally for familiar hollowed out Mogadishu in Detroit. How cheaply we sell our fallen, ourselves and our children’s inheritance. All you can grab or collective bargain for statist buffet of “unearned swagger,” indeed.

  5. So Rob Long thinks Mitch Daniels at CPAC reflected TEA urgency and social issue spine, at the same time Rob is celebrating Charlie Sheen for his independent spirit. Until such time as cocaine is legal, Mr Sheen must stick to alcohol because that is the “truce” spoken in the definite Mitch Daniels voice. Intellectual incoherence, Rob. As Peter noted Reagan said, “specificity is the soul of persuasion”, so let me note the 30,000 deaths in Mexico from drug cartels. On the same podcast you have the head of the San Franscisco Tea Party who is asked ‘To be or not to be?’ and defiantly proclaims, “We are here and they don’t own us anymore.” My children are not expendable.
If you are willing to see that salvation for our nation may not come from one or two elections ahead but from future generations by stating that if we must lose “let’s lose with something super clear,” then allow that parents don’t want to raise their children to fight statism only to accept a drug culture for their own children. Your state of California is on fire and sparking up but you imagine there will be someone with the passion to plagiarize Mark’s speech let alone voters with the mental faculty to not get distracted with their free Obamacare meds and pot? Weak TEA.
