Something I only learned of recently is that a potpourri of full-length movies are available for free on YouTube. If you come across any you particularly like, please do let the rest of us know in this or a future Reader Tips. For those in the mood for something more musical in nature, here are a few clips of Mes Aïeux, a terrific group from Québec. The video was shot while they were performing live in Vancouver during the 2010 Olympics.

  2. Yeesh. I clicked on your YouTube link, and the first movie presented is “The Pinocchio Effect”, which purportedly “chronicles the rise and fall of a man’s erection”.
    Must have missed that one when it came through the theatres.

  8. Definitely check out Buster Keaton’s stuff. “The General”, “Steamboat Willy” and “Sherlock Jr”.
    His films have spoiled me and I can’t really enjoy modern comedies anymore.

  17. Weird shenanigans over at the CRTC invitation to comment on the CBC. I’d say that at least 80%, maybe more, of the comments are torpedoing the CBC, with a few dieheard leftards defending our “national broadcaster.”
    I’ve made a number of comments, seriously challenging commenters who defend the CBC’s agenda, and now I’m no longer able to comment. “They’re” asking for an e-mail address, which I gave before, and a password, which I haven’t been asked for before.
    What the …?
    Are my comments too pointed, too close to the bone, too informative? I have no idea. But, I do know that I’ve effectively been cut off.

  19. batb Sounds about right. A few days ago I noticed something in a photo of Quebecers cleaning up after the flood on the CBC website. Dead center in the picture the subject was giving the cameraman the finger. I asked who he was giving the finger to. Thirty seven comments and no one noticed.
    Thread gone and no further comments accepted that day from me.
    I thought it was rather funny and displayed the thoroughness they use in checking before publishing

    And that after I was quoted $90 for manufacturing of a brand new cylinder by Festo! How do they make business at that price is beyond me. They sure bring in hundreds if not thousands of these cylinders every month, as they start leaking after a few years of operation and have to be replaced. That’s why the first shop has them in stock, and they get them from the distributor.
    Are they trying to screw me? Hell yeah.

  24. batb–my comments don’t even make it on the CBC boards anymore. So I didn’t bother commenting at the CRTC (on the topic of the CBC). I must have offended but no-one officially cut me off. I just noticed that in the last year, none of my comments, however innocuous, make it on CBC. I have never slagged anyone, or been impolite either.
    I know that the boards are not intended just to reflect the opinion of Canadians, they are intended to shape opinion by inviting only those views that are acceptable. They will allow the occasional outrageous comment from the “other side” but the more reasoned your words, and the more difficult to refute, the more likely you are to not see your words make it to their boards.
    I noticed however, that the comments about the CBC on the site you mentioned were for the most part quite negative. It appears to have caught them unprepared.

    They do not answer the phone and send you through the press 1 etc BS.

    Where are the CBC assets ?
    The first red flag raised in the 1970’s NBC corruption @ The NYC Brooklyn Studios (Soaps) was the “fixed” cost show budgeting.. The bleeding of assets @ an equal rate………..IE, the same security fence used for street scenes was purchased > 100 times..(NBC unit managers were F8’ing assets and then claiming ownership)…

  33. Black Mamba: No, Delta’s not boycotting Jews so they can do business in Saudi Arabia. That’s hysteria. Delta doesn’t even serve Saudi Arabia, and isn’t likely to any time soon.
    Saudi Arabian Airlines, who are joining Skyteam (an association of major airlines that includes Delta) couldn’t fly Jews or Israelis into Saudi Arabia even if management were willing. Jews and Israelis who try to enter Saudi Arabia are denied entry, and their carrier (if any) is subject to fines. Giving up business over something beyond the control of their business partner makes no business sense to Delta.
    Saudis, not indignant North Americans, are the ones who get to choose who may or may not enter their country. As far as I can tell, the policy in question is fine by most Saudis, who for obvious reasons don’t want Mossad agents in their country.
    I can live with that. If you take seriously the idea that nations have the right to choose who gets to enter their territory (and most people on SDA do), so can you. Would that Canada took such a rational approach to keeping out troublemaking Third World riffraff and Islamist agents!

I despise Conrad Black because he stole money from other people. He managed his shareholder money like if it was his own personal money. He did it first in 1984 (Dominion workers’ pension plan), He did did again later.
    Also I read all his columns in the National Pest (great for a national newspaper to have a criminal in jail as columnist, wow) and I find his political view deeply offensive.
    I just hate him.
