As we get closer to our nation’s 144th Birthday, perhaps we all need to take a few moments to reflect upon how blessed we are to be living in the nation we do. One of our southern neighbours, Lee Greenwood, rewrote a famous song of his for Canadians from Coast to Coast to Coast. This week, and every week of the year, may God Bless Canada.

Muahahahaa!!
I’m surprised not to see a link to this already:
http://wattsupwiththat.com/2011/06/26/geological-society-statement-about-climate-change/
I disagree with their “there is clear reason for alarm”, but it’s nice to have a geological view of what is significant. Some of the facts stated, that stand “this is unprecidented!” on it’s head. As a miner I’ve scoffed at the idea that the last century shows anything out of the ordinary. It’s nice to have confirmation from the Geological Society of London
When and how did today’s climate become established? The Earth’s climate has been gradually cooling for most of the last 50 million years. At the beginning of that cooling (in the early Eocene), the global average temperature was about 6-7 ºC warmer than now…
What effect do natural cycles of climate change have on the planet? … When ice sheets were at a maximum during the Pleistocene, world sea level fell to at least 120 m below where it stands today … During parts of the previous interglacial period, when polar temperatures reached 3-5°C above today’s, global sea levels were higher than today’s by around 4-9m…
Has sudden climate change occurred before? Yes. About 55 million years ago, at the end of the Paleocene, there was a sudden warming event in which temperatures rose by about 6ºC globally and by 10-20ºC at the poles …
Are there more recent examples of rapid climate change? … Abrupt shifts in climate can occur over much shorter timescales. Greenland ice cores record that during the last glacial stage (100,000 – 11,500 years ago) the temperature there alternately warmed and cooled several times by more than 10ºC… Each warm and cold episode took just a few decades to develop and lasted for a few hundred years…
OMMAG – wow, that’s a lot of links on the page (the page on the link). They not only know what they believe, but can back it up. Does it seem odd that only the Right follows that tact? Not particularly. Those on the “right” have tended to trust experience over theory, while the left trumps theory (and intentions, as part of theory) over experience. That’s why we aren’t surprised when a new and glorious leader can’t live up to expectations (when they promise the moon as a pound of cheese for each of us) and they always expect that a fresh face will mean the end of history as we know it and the ushering in of a new age (and economy).
Sorry all, the third and all subsequent paragraphs of my first post are quotes from the article referenced by wattsupwiththat.com. I’ve maintained for years that the scope of cycles that rule our climate are far beyond our thermometer record, let alone the satellite record, and it’s nice to have a formal body supporting this view (even if it seems that they’re bowing to the CAGW view at the end of their piece – disseminate the facts and then discuss the possibilities, if there’s “consensus” then it’s not science.)

“Ottawa to sell AECL to SNC-Lavalin”
“The Harper government is set to announce the sale of Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. to Montreal-based engineering firm SNC-Lavalin Group SNC-T, a major gamble that Canada’s nuclear program can stand on its own amid growing global resistance to nuclear energy.
The sale of AECL’s commercial division could come as early as this week, although negotiators are still working out the final details of the deal, sources close to the talks said Monday.”

My respect for Lee Greenwood has just gone down a notch. God Bless Canada is nothing more than a reworded version of God Bless The USA. I lived down there after 9-11 and I can tell you that when that song was played at any public gathering, it brought tears to many and inspired all. Writing an inspirational song about your country is one thing but to hawk it out as “God Bless(fill in the blank)” loses big time.
“German Nuclear Ban Spurs French Atomic Imports”
“Germany’s retreat from nuclear power has pushed its electricity prices above those of France for the first time in 16 months, spurring exports from French atomic plants as close as 1 mile (1.6 kilometers) to the border.”
““The gains in German power are all politically driven,” said Dieter Hluchy, a trader at Stadtwerke Hannover AG, a utility in Hannover, Germany. “As long as we are not able to put additional supplies online, there will be more electricity coming from France, the Czech Republic and Scandinavia.”
Nuclear accounted for 23 percent of power in Germany last year and meets more than 75 percent of demand in France, which exported 3,416 megawatts to its neighbor in the hour through 6 p.m. local time yesterday, more than twice as much as at the same time last year, according to European grid group Entsoe. French President Nicholas Sarkozy has offered to boost exports of mostly atomic power to Germany.”

Cross post from yesterday, late. I thought SNN was supposed to be different from the MSM, especially when it comes to being balanced about conservatives: we’ve seen plenty of criticism of the Harper government—but none has been gratuitous. That’s fair. Here’s what I wrote last night about a Sun News host who has disappointed us over and over:
“Charles Adler is an idiot: we decided to give him another try tonight. He did a hatchet job on Michele Bachmann. Yes, she made a mistake re John Wayne and his birthplace. Adler made a federal case of this. Any balance, re Obama’s gargantuan and frequent gaffes? Nope.
“Yes, Mrs. Bachmann should be sure not to make even the most picayune mistake. But that Charles Adler would attack her the way Jon Stewart would . . . what’s up with Adler? We switched to Fox right away—that’s IT for Mr. Adler as far as we’re concerned. Brit Hume just happened to be giving his opinion on this matter: while rightly opining that she should fact check very carefully, he gave Michele Bachmann the credit she’s due.
“Charles Adler is a shallow, tabloid journalist (who does smarmy ads on his own show: how unprofessional). What’s this self-important hack doing on SNN?”
We wish that Fox would switch O’Reilly and Hannity: then we could catch Hannity—without missing Brian Lilley—and miss BOTH O’Reilly AND Adler. Now that would be a deal!

Hey lookout, you are absolutely correct both Adler and O’Reilly are a couple of RINO’s.
God Bless Canada: what a wonderful song. It brought tears to my eyes because it was the Canadian soldiers who liberated my village in the north of Holland from the German occupiers. Later, in the Army, I decided to emigrate to Canada where I have now lived happily for more than 55 years. What a wonderful country! What a great place to live! Thank God for Canada. Thanks, Robert!

Van Jones to launch an Anti-TEA party movement with financial help from George Soros…It’s to be called “The American dream Movement”…I wonder if it’s based on that fine African American lady who cried that “Obama was going to pay her mortgage”…That’s a nice “dream” isn’t it?:

Great choice, Robert. Every once in a while we all need to be reminded of the breathtaking beauty of our country and how fortunate we are to live in such a place.
Hey, no kidding:
Van Jones, last Friday officially launched an Anti-TEA party movement with financial help from George Soros…It’s to be called “The American dream Movement”…I wonder if it’s based on that fine African American lady who cried that “Obama was going to pay her mortgage”…That’s a nice “dream” isn’t it?:
Here’s an excerpt:
“The movement has been described as a grassroots progressive group seeking to emulate the success of the tea party.”
“The movement, however, is anything but grassroots. It is already partnered with two of the nation’s largest unions, the AFL-CIO and the SEIU, who boast an army of millions of public employees.”
“AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka recorded a web video for the campaign.”
“Also signed on to the movement are the Soros-funded groups, Campaign for America’s Future and the Center for Community Change.”
“Campaign for America’s Future was co-founded in 1996 chiefly by Robert Borosage, who previously served as director of the Marxist-oriented Institute for Policy Studies.”
“The CCC boasts a board filled with radicals, including socialist activists.”
AKA: The civil war between public and private (tax spenders vs tax payers) is on it’s way.
You says Barry does nothing?
Google “World Net Daily” for the entire article.
Robert, thanks for the God Bless Canada tribute and yes we are blessed.
Although, there are those on the left who are doing their best to unbless us.
Lookout, you are right about Adler. Sometimes he is out to lunch big time and this was a prime example. I saw the segment and thought that he was experiencing temporary senility. Michelle is miles beyond Obama intellectually.

One of the distinguishing features of our age is in its contempt for basic societal building blocks. There’s a new book making the rounds by Mara Hvistendahl called Unnatural Selection: Choosing Boys Over Girls, And The Consequences Of A World Full Of Men. If you’ve read the relevant bits of America Alone or some of my other columns, you’ll know what comes next: In China, India, other parts of the developing world, and those parts of the west where Chinese, Indians and others have settled in large numbers, there are plenty of boys and an ever greater absence of girls.

“Spain cuts high speed ‘ghost train'”
“Spain’s state-controlled rail operator has been forced to axe one of its newest high speed train services after it emerged that the only nine passengers were using it each day.”
“The AVE route connecting the Castilla la Mancha capital Toledo with the cities of Albacete and Cuenca was inaugurated with much fanfare last December, one of the links that helped Spain overtake France as the country operating Europe’s biggest high speed rail network.
But Enrique Urkijo, the Director General for Passengers at Renfe, was forced to concede that the project had not been a success and that operating a “ghost train” was no longer feasible.
“From Friday it will no longer be in service,” he announced in Toledo on Monday.”

“Mainstream media covers up horrifying Obama mistake
“By: Michael Barone, 06/28/11
“No one in mainstream media seems inclined to mention last Thursday when, speaking at Fort Drum, he said that SFC Jared Monti was ‘the first person who I was able to award the Medal of Honor to who actually came back and wasn’t receiving it posthumously.’ Alas, he was mistaken. He awarded the Medal of Honor to Jared Monti posthumously in 2009 and awarded the Medal of Honor in person to SSG Sal Giunta in person in 2011. Obama later apologized for this mistake, but it’s really dismaying that a president who spoke movingly and even eloquently in awarding the Medal of Honor made a mistake of this magnitude.
“‘It shouldn’t take a teleprompter for the C-in-C to get it right,’ writes military blogger Black Five. It’s interesting that mainstream media journalists who are so eager to zing Michele Bachmann for getting John Wayne’s birthplace wrong, have not been interested in asking whether this was a mistake Obama made in ad libbing or whether the White House speechwriters and fact-checkers fell down on the job. You might think that their chief motive is to make Obama look good and to suppress facts that make him look bad.”

Fidel Castro actually imprisoned Gays in special concentration camps during the 1960’s, and today is the first time that Gays have been able to meet without government permission. Last year independent LGBT had to disband completely because of harassment and imprisonment.
But I’m sure everybody has been aware of the persecution of Gays in Communist Cuba — the CBC has kept us all well informed about it for years! Not!
The CBC only keeps us informed about the imaginary persecution of Gays and their imprisonment in imaginary concentration camps in democratic countries like Canada.
Although, Cuba and Canada did have something in common regarding Gay Pride: up until today both were paid for by the State and directed by Commies — now only Canada’s Pride is paid for by the State and directed by the Commies, because as of today Cuba’s Gays are free of both!

Texas Canuck:
Cut Lee Greenwood a little slack on this. Of course it is a re-worked version of his orignal song. Everyone recognizes that.
Fact remains, it is a nice song and a nice video.
I know the story behind it. He was asked by a couple of friends of mine to record a Canadian version of the song. He didn’t have to, but he undertook the expense of re-recording it.
I didn’t have anything to do with the production…but I also know for a fact that he never received a dime from the production or it’s release.
And he never asked for anything, either.
For that, in my mind, he’s a bit of a hero.
