  1. That thought has struck me a number of times. First the counter culture fights back against the govt of the day to change things, now they ARE the government. Now we find the right fighting back against the monster of federal/provincial (state) and municiple governments.
Both wanted varing degrees of the same thing. The government out of their lives.
Of course the major difference being that the counter culture of the 60’s wanted to govt out so as to lead as hedonistic a lifestyle as possible. The right of the 10’s want the govt out their lives so they can make a success of their country……..

  2. Yup, that’s true. I moved right and took it with me!
I’d say AtlanticJim nails it, at least on a personal level for me.

  3. I agree! (That’s discussin’.)
It cracks me up that the lefties think they’re rebels. Even when I was little I knew they were completely conformist and full of b.s. And I’m naturally contrary. Luckily I’m also right about everything.

  4. I’m not so sure. This leftist culture has been allowed to expand [we let the low IQ children have the controls for too long] by what I would think are a minority of hard core lefties. It’s only now that society is beginning to see [of course there are those of us who saw all this coming] and fully understand the damage they’ve wrought on the majority [whom I believe are centre to centre-right]and we’re emerging from this eddy. I’ve seen those, who were genuine followers, also seeing the dream shattered and are trying to get out before being swallowed up. Fortunatly there will be those who will fade kicking and screaming as they go down.

  5. the ‘counter culture’ of the left can (and should) be taken literally, meaning it runs counter…or opposite…to any normal culture…and they’ve spread to far to many places with their lunacy creeping into what should be the most neutral of places in a bid to demonize anything or anyone that doesn’t embrace their flowers and beads ‘carebear culture’…for example, what do you infer from the wording of the headline…then read the story
Cop involved in shooting at strip club
    By Larissa Cahute, QMI Agency
OTTAWA – Two people have been shot and wounded – one by a cop – in a wild series of events at a Gatineau, Que., strip club early Wednesday.
The mayhem began shortly after 3 a.m. at Cabaret Taboo in the Hull sector.
A Gatineau police officer who was at another call near the club heard one or more gunshots, immediately called for backup and then went to the scene.
As the officer arrived, Gatineau Police Sgt. J.P. Lemay told 1310 News, he saw five men fleeing the club.
Quebec provincial police reported that the men got into a red vehicle and tried to run the cop down, so the officer took aim and fired.
“One of the fleeing suspects was shot by one of our officers,” Lemay told 1310.

  6. At least today we Conservatives can be proud the damage done to our military by the likes of Trudeau, have been reversed a might.
Its time we kicked the Marxist scum out!!!

  7. “Imam charged with sex Assault”
    In Toronto??
Wonder if he punched the mug shot cop in the face for taking his photo?
What gives, Toronto Police (RCMP?) charging a bloody Imam with homosexual pedophilia?? Toronto?
It would be very interesting to know which lefty crook he didn’t grease this month to have those charges allowed to be laid on him. My god it’s not like he was a Mormon or anything, plus their not peeing in their pants waiting for the riots downtown – something’s very wrong!

  8. umm sda any chance you could shorten your blog to 2 or 3 days on the main page, Bell is charging me by the mb and my little blue wheel keeps turning round and round.
and I have no idea what this post has to do with Canadá’s military in the North, Sun link. sry

  9. The “counter culture” of the 1960’s was an invention of the Comintern, and they were very successful at it.
    I was there,at the rallies,universities,be-ins,rock festivals,and just about any public gathering at the time,and always there was a well spoken rabble-rouser to spew basically,LIES,about Canada,the U.S,the government,the military,etc.
The kids in the crowd sucked it up like the stupidly naive little shits they were.It never seemed to occur to them that we had a pretty good life here, for a Country that was supposed to be so corrupt and horrible.
It was a well orchestrated campaign, and it took a few years, but in the end the bastards DID get many of their numbskull acolytes into positions of power.
Now, we’re fighting back, and the SOB’s,who never had any stomach for a real fight, are howling like back fence cats.

  10. Thesis/antithesis, followed by normality of something that actually works. So is conservatism the antithesis, or the “something that actually works”?

  11. Agreed Mark. If you’re a kid these days and you want to “stick it to The Man”, The Man you’re sticking it to is a Lefty because they control most of the public services etc. Especially schools.
Only thing left to rebel against is recycling, mandatory French classes, Human Rights tribunals etc. -Real- rebels gotta go throw pies at David Suzuki.

  12. I once read that one tends to identify more with their grandparents than their parents. That was a few years ago. That could be a good thing because values can be carried forward.
However, this doesn’t quite work when when those who are old enough to be grandparents are having children or are still dressing as though they are still teenagers.
    What then?

  13. I have been waiting for it to become fashionable or chic to be a creature of the right. At some point it can be an heroic image.
Just think … to identify with a person who exudes self-reliance, self-confidence, who calmly deals with the challenges of life, who is persistent, hard-working, clean, smart and with a strength of spirit.
Liberals get tired and bored just thinking about a value load that heavy. It’s for the adults.

  14. It’s time to speak Truth to Power, young’uns.
Never trust a Liberal who is over 40 years old.

Some people regard private enterprise as a predatory tiger to be shot. Others look on it as a cow they can milk. Not enough people see it as a healthy horse, pulling a sturdy wagon.(pay attention libertarians)

The length of this document defends it well against the risk of its being read.

Last word for awhile to the young’uns:
I’m not rich, but for your sake and mine the social welfare system must be dismantled.
I’d rather die in poverty then in strife, although I’m willing to die in strife fighting the government to keep what I’ve rightfully earned because liberty hangs in the balance and it’s far more precious than my next breath.

  15. I never thought of the 1960’s “counterculture” as leftist although, in retrospect, there were a large number of self-identified commies that I ran into back then. My opinion then, as now, is that the only good commie is a dead commie and I guess that made them steer clear of me. I used to be called a hippy redneck back then and it was a nice hedonistic time. One of my life goals back then was to grow my hair down to my waist and it almost made it.
Most of the people that I hung around with in the 1960’s and 1970’s would be labelled as libertarians now although we called ourselves anarchists. The few that I’ve kept in touch with seem to be hard-core conservatives now.
One thing I recall from then is people vanishing and showing up months later as members of some weird religious cult. There were a lot of very impressionable young people then and they must have been easy prey for Russian sleeper agents. It was a very fluid time and we thought of ourselves as the first generation that had discovered sex and psychedelics but it takes decades of experience to realize that what we thought of as a unique moment in history had been repeated hundreds of times of the last 5000 years.
It seems to be a common theme in history; young people form groups determined to change society and end up becoming members of a repressive force. Before the 1960’s hippies were the Wandervogel in Germany who were the radical environmentalists of the day until they joined the National Socialists.
The only constant over the last 50 years has been the steady growth and encroachment of government into all areas of life. I’m hoping that the anti-big government forces will be able to downsize leviathan and make the government that remains very afraid of the people.

  16. @ dmorris @ 8:31, exactly. I have two retired teacher friends who took their teacher training in the late 50s and early 60s and fellow students who claimed to be communists and their aim was to inculcate their ideology into their future students.
The Uk and USA both need a leader of Winston Churchill’s stature.

  17. The ‘Right’ is not a counter-culture movement, on the contrary, the Right, or ‘conserve’atives want to celebrate what made the civilized world great in the first place. It is a pro-cultural movement if anything because the failures in all other cultures are so obvious. Everyone around the world agrees that the West is the best.
And doubters should ask themselves if they have ever heard of, or could even concieve of, any average family in a Western nation deciding to pick up and move to the uncivilized world to countries like Iran, The Congo, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Cuba, China….

  18. The expression “counter-culture” is very “sixties” but if you look at the long term view of human history, liberty is a revolutionary concept whereas the (historical) norm is some form of collective despotism. That comes in many varieties, brands, and amplitudes such as: socialism, progressivism, (modern) liberalism, serfdom, communism, fascism, and inherent in democracies, theocracies, and monarchies. The history of liberty is that of continuous struggle against the statists, the individual against the collective, free exchange with property rights against coercion.
Given that the dominant culture today of Western civilization is (nanny, welfare) statism, representing a backslide of about a century, those trying to keep the revolution alive appear to represent the real “counter culture”.

  19. The tentacles of the left are so numerous that one wonders about their sources of funding and energy.
I’m a member of a PROBUS Club (PROfessional/BUSiness Retirees) and we have about 800 members in a town of 80,000. We’ve had numerous guest speakers pumping climate change, peak oil and God knows how may other ‘lefty’ shiboleths.
These groups are constantly using active ‘outreach’ to seek out such organizations, offering to provide guest speakers under the guise of ‘community service’. It can be tough to counter this as the contrary viewpoint is so often perceived as negative or environmentally unfriendly.
In addition, most right leaning people just want to be left alone to work and produce and are disinclined to be proactive in countering the propaganda.

  20. That’s the story of my life.
In the ’70s as a young adult in Toronto I campaigned for NDP candidates, put up their signs, handed out their literature, voted for the NDP and even saw a couple of them elected.
Got married, 2 kids close together, mortgage, and all of a sudden one day around 1981 or so I looked at my pay stub and noticed how much tax I was paying … enough for TWO families! I finally realized all that “free” stuff from the govt wasn’t free! Became a fiscal, small govt conservative almost overnight, and the older I get the more right wing I become.
I wish that Harper’s Conservatives would exhibit a LOT more backbone when it comes to cutting govt headcount and spending.

  21. It is why we should never fall into the trap of using the lexicon of the left. They like to call themselves “progressives” because the word evokes warm, fuzzy feelings in those who hear the word. To most, it implies moving forward, growth or improvement. It is the slow methodology of propaganda. So don’t call them progressives.
And as the saying goes, “All progress implacably requires change. But not all change is progress.”

  22. I dunno, sometimes I think we mix up the ’60’s “counter-culture” with the Left-wing University students of the ’60’s. The Left students of the ’60’s were no different than those of today: wealthy spoiled brats and hedonists, who yell and scream and protest in the street about everything. We considered them wannabees, “weekend hippies” or “yippies”, pretty much devoid of ideals.
I honestly don’t think the Left has ever really been neither libertarian nor idealists, because their sole purpose always seems to be to shove their ideology down other people’s throats — they’re all about bully power and control. The ’60’s counter-culture was much more laissez-faire than that.

  23. I find that I don’t trust the left leaning people I know, but feel more comfortable trusting my conservative friends.
As time goes on, my time is better spent with those I trust and have more in common with.
Conservatism is on the upswing. Gotta love those pendulums.
I’ve always had a problem with collectivism. It dilutes greatness.
I agree with “No Guff”….most right leaning people like to be left alone to work and produce.
Being responsible for yourself is one of the only ways to achieve true freedom.

  24. The ’60s counter-culture is the establishment of today. Which is why we need a new counter-culture.
