Oliver Darcy is one of my new heroes. With a simple, yet brilliant stroke of genius, he has figured out a way to effectively communicate to young liberals why the fiscal policies of their Great Messiah Obama are absolutely ineffective and unacceptable.
Finally, for the first time in their lives, these left-wing students are being challenged to defend their long-held beliefs. And lo and behold, they’re instantly discovering that it’s a whole lot easier to insist upon others giving up their capital than it is to give away one’s own.
Each of them now has a choice to make: Grow up and admit that socialism and wealth distribution absolutely does not work -or- live their lives with that little voice of hypocrisy constantly haunting them.
Socialist credo: What’s yours is mine and what’s mine is also mine!
Also, a wise old farmer in our area always used to say: Every time someone gets something for nothing, someone else gets nothing for something…

I like where the older guy argues that GPA is reflection of your work but then his brain goes into a infinite loop when asked isn’t income a reflection of ones work as well…
Its amazing what one’s brain will do in order to maintain it’s biases even when presented with a pretty clear line of reasoning against it. The default response becomes “that’s different” they don’t know how or why, but it must be because it it wasn’t I would be wrong.
Brilliant.
they won’t learn that until they’re 40 and start paying the bills.
“tax the rich” I agree because Warren Buffett says he pay’s a lower tax rate than I do.
As far as the poor not paying any income taxes, that’s American Limbaugh style propaganda, or a big fat lie.
get serial please
Besides I thought the first thing Big O was going to do was remove the tax cuts for rich Americans?
O… wait, he won a Nobel, I can’t say that.
Give me that old college cheer: “but it’s not the same thiiinnnngggggg”
The other issue of course is that even if you did what the Democrats want to do and raise taxes on those damn rich people you’d still be left with a freaking huge deficit and a crappy unemployment situation. So I wonder what the solution is? Well, Obama’s plan isn’t out yet but I’m guessing it starts with “S” and ends with “U” and will flop exactly like the last big waste of cash. Things will only improve after innaugaration.

Click through to the petition on the basketball team. Hilarious! Not only that but the audio is way easier to understand. This chap is brilliant!
“That is different, it’s politics”
Why of COURSE it is, you weasely little left-tard.
At my age, I don’t hold out much hope for a sensible future, given the present day entitlement attitudes of both young and old. Then a young person like Mr. Darcy comes along and the clouds clear away to show a bright clear sky. Thank you for finding this jem!
“I like where the older guy argues that GPA is reflection of your work but then his brain goes into a infinite loop when asked isn’t income a reflection of ones work as well…”
It’s a very loose analogy. For one thing, GPA’s can’t be passed on to your kids. For another, the spread in marks is far smaller than the spread in wealth. It’s a useful way of getting them to think about the morality of income redistribution, but there’s only one real point of comparison between the two, whereas there are at least 3 major differences. Several people in the video were clearly attempting to point that out, but he was underhanded enough to edit out their responses. And the dishonest editing only serves to undermine the point he was trying to make – after all, if he were confident in the validity of his opinion, he wouldn’t need to censor out opposing views.
Hold on there, Alex. – “For one thing, GPA’s can’t be passed on to your kids” – and money can, right? But that money has already been taxed as income by the time it get passed on. You want to tax it again? If it is just possessed should we tax it again each year? After it’s income, it’s then just static possession. How many times are you going to tax the same money?
Those students don’t (want to) understand the difference between redistributing money from people who have worked hard to have a lot of it and taking away some of their high grade points because they worked hard and have more than they need to graduate, BECAUSE …. the money is not theirs, but the grade point average is theirs.
It kind of the same thing where you shit is stuff and everyone else’s stuff is shit.
Just another contradiction and denial of reality that misguides the left their their frustrated and confused lives.
Whenever I give my kids a snack, I always take a bite out before I hand it to them, and call it “taking my taxes”. Very effective teaching tool.
“But that money has already been taxed as income by the time it get passed on. You want to tax it again?”
Nope. Just pointing out that the idea that “you have to work for money” like you have to work for your GPA is simply not true. You can make money without doing anything to earn it. Therefore the analogy is false. The rest of the differences just make it worse.
Young people who have not had to make their way in cruel cold world can’t see the relationship between hard work and more money, they seem to think,as the “older” fellow mentioned, that “they just get money” somehow……
Persons who have been inculcated with the “self” propaganda, are VERY unlikely to want to share, especially if they have had to actually work for it.
As the old saying goes,”it’s easy to give away someone else’s money”.
They’ve been taught to hate “the rich’,but only a certain type of “rich”,mainly those who made it through business. The rich Hollywood types are NOT to be hated, but worshipped for their brilliance and charisma, and con artists such as Mike Moore and Al Gore are to be respected, not hated,as “THEY earned their money with no exploitation of anyone”….gaghh.
I guess if my GPA was 370.0 (on a 4-point scale) and someone else’s was 2.0, I might agree to have mine reduced to 369.0 in order to bump theirs up to 3.0, if it meant they could then afford, say, adequate housing or access to health care.
I wouldn’t count on those kids learning much from this or any excercise when their own school can’t spell “Collegian” correctly.
Alex
“You can make money without doing anything to earn it. Therefore the analogy is false.”
Enlighten us….please…(see I’m polite)….
Yeah, Alex
Tell us how to make money without doing anything.
Any time somebody tells me about ‘greedy corporations’ who are making too much money, I have one question for them.
Could you tell me which greedy corporation makes the most amount of money?
That way, I could risk my money, buy shares and take part in their profit.
Kinda like what my pension plan managers do.
So, if somebody knows a profitable corporation and they pass up the opportunity to share in the wealth they create by providing a product the market would like, I have only one word for them … loser.
Some seem to think it is only “the rich” having their wealth redistributed?
Bizarre
I calculated my taxes in 2003 after personal bankruptcy and determined that I paid over fourteen thousand dollars in taxes, (I quit counting at that amount, but there was more),on a 34,000.00 dollar single income that year. I was not able to buy any tax deferring investments as at the time I was paying non-deductible child support as well as a rather pricey apartment in a rundown neighbourhood.
Point is I missed two $250.00 loan payments in a row and my loan got “called”. Forcing me to file bankruptcy that same year.
call me irresponsible but if only the rich paid taxes like eRushbo says then where did my fourteen thousand dollars go, to the tooth fairy?
Get serial – manbearpig
Not everybody in this country is paying half their incomes to the tax fairy and I include corporations.
fruitcakes
Blanks:
Let me attempt to allay you confusion.
Obviously, you live in Canada, where the tax system is more equal and everybody has to pitch in.
Unlike the States, where the top 1% pay more than the bottom 95%.
… You can make money without doing anything to earn it. Therefore the analogy is false. The rest of the differences just make it worse.
I’ve heard that ‘comeback’ from Statists in defense of the estate tax. The flaw in that argument is that it also applies to the Government who routinely “…make money money without doing anything to earn it.”
We’re talking about the estate tax…post-taxed money that has already paid its due for gov’t services.
Oh good grief. What a mind-bendingly stupid comparison. Those students earning the high grades didn’t earn them on the backs of others who were forced to study for them or face going hungry and poor.
The key issue here is that the wealthy elite DID NOT earn all that dough themselves. No, they earned it on the backs of people they pay poorly, and have little choice but to work for nigh slave wages.
If you’re going to pay some loser minimum wage to work at McDonalds, at least give the poor bugger universal healthcare, and affordable education. If not, pay them better.
The US is a chumpocracy. They like to pretend that “anyone can make it rich if they work hard”, and while this is true for a tiny segment of the population, it doesn’t bare out for the vast majority.
Thanks you guys, the middleclass has stagnated, the poor are getting poorer, all while executive compensation keeps going up… even when they mange to bungle the economy.
Talk about your useful idiots.
“Enlighten us….please…(see I’m polite)….”
I already did, so I’m not exactly optimistic about your ability to understand further examples – however, here’s a short, non-exhaustive list:
1. Inherit the money.
2. Win the lottery.
3. Get lucky on the stock market.
4. Get lucky in a casino.
5. Run a successful scam.
6. Armed robbery.
Of course, it depends on how you define “work”. You might consider armed robbery to be work – I would disagree. Or, as a different example, I made $20k by installing a program on my computer and letting it run for a couple weeks; I don’t consider that “work”, how about you?
This is the EXACT technique I used with my valedictorian, four year full ride scholarship daughter…she’s now more abusive of the left than I (and I’m hard on them.)
Make money without doing a thing? SIGN ME UP!!
Can’t be true?
I thought so, rats.
set you free
pay more?
more dollars or more percentage? I don’t know the diff right off between Canada and U.S. taxes but if Warren Buffett says he’s only paying 10% income tax then he is paying a lower rate than I pay.
So who’s wealth is being redistributed more mine or Warren Buffett’s?
“Unlike the States, where the top 1% pay more than the bottom 95%.” – according to Rush Limbaugh.
what about the other 4%?
There’s just so much BS being thrown around out there, it’s hard to listen.
Instead of doing the GPA and the income question…he should have asked them to sign a form that they would give away so much of their money in taxes if they made over a certain amount….now that would have quelled their comments that GPA and money income are different.
I believe Alex is making the point that some people inherit their riches just as some inherit their brains. Some people struggle to finish grade 10 while others get honours at university while sleeping through all their classes. As a nation based on Judeo-Christian principles we realize we are our brother’s keeper. However as our brother’s keeper we also have to realize that our brother has an obligation to himself, his family and his nation to do all that he can to contribute to the upkeep of all of the above. Robert Heinlein famously wrote that the best way to tell a lie is to tell half the truth then shut up. Socialism is a lie because it tells only half the truth. The other half is the obligation of the recipient of the public largess to repay and contribute toward the public purse.
Facts is facts.
You don’t have a problem with facts, do you?
What amount of his income does Buffett donate to charitable causes? I don’t know and I’m sure you don’t either. Those are tax deductions that can decrease the percentage. You could do the same.
If Buffett would like to pay more taxes, I have no problem with that. He could write a cheque right now and send it to the US Treasury.
That’s his business. On the other hand, it’s none of his business to make choices for others.
“However as our brother’s keeper we also have to realize that our brother has an obligation to himself, his family and his nation to do all that he can to contribute to the upkeep of all of the above.”
I guess that’s part of Jesus’s speech they didn’t write down?
If you’re going to base your philosophy on some imaginary bearded guy who you think it the son of a god, then at least follow what he says, and don’t go putting words in his mouth.
That said, I agree with this statement. The problem is that most people aren’t paid nearly enough to fulfil all of the obligations the average libertarian believes the should. No, they think that it’s up to them to figure out how to pay a medical bill of $100k while making minimum wage, completely ignoring the fact that the wealthy rely on those minimum wage earners to keep their companies running.
Socialism in a mild form works very, very well. We are living in an example of this where people don’t have to go broke if they get sick. Or where kids who grow up poor have a chance of getting a decent education at an affordable cost. Other great examples of economies that are doing very, very well by comparison to the US are the Nordic nations. None of these examples are even remotely comparable to the brutal regimes of of the Soviet era.
Life isn’t black and white. Tax the poop out of those rich bastards, or make them pay living wages. I don’t care which.
This is the EXACT technique I used with my valedictorian, four year full ride scholarship daughter…she’s now more abusive of the left than I (and I’m hard on them.)
That doesn’t change the fact that the poor are the ones paying for his roads to drive on and Rushbaugh’s 15 fire hydrants he needs to pee on.
dream your sweet dreams rich kids and start paying you fair share in the first place.
When is Bill Gates tax freedom day btw. January 2?
We have “tax freedom day”. For the average CA I believe that is the end of June. Meaning the, key word, average Canuck works 6 months of the year just to pay their taxes.
I only spent two semesters at community college so I’m not being smart here.
sry, I generally am in conformity to most sda leans but not this brow hazing adventure.
Alex
“1. Inherit the money.
2. Win the lottery.
3. Get lucky on the stock market.
4. Get lucky in a casino.
5. Run a successful scam.
6. Armed robbery.”
1. Jealous that others receive a pre-taxed bequest? That’s one of the deadly sins doncha know..
2. Not a clever investment strategy….odds of success are in the millions….
3. Investment/risk of capital and investment knowledge otherwise a loser.
4. Stupid startegy….too much risk for low odds of return.
5. They have laws about that…significant risk involved without the law.
6. Seems to be currently a good rate of return in Britain but still signicant risks involved….physically even….
First of all Buffet says he pays 17% and that’s because his income comes from dividends and capital gains and he pays capital gains and dividend taxes on those. If you want to see how the numbers all break down go check out the income tax numbers the US government released for 2009 (that’s the latest info). It’s all out there. The fact is the rich pay the most tax in both US and Canada.
The analogy is valid. To win a lottery, one must purchase a ticket; usually many times over to finally win anything back on the investment and same goes for a casino win. A lucky break in the stock-market also requires an investment of money. Running a successful scam and armed robbery both take work – planning, preparation and then carrying out the scheme. Inheriting money often does not come w/o strings attached – caring for the relative or at least being kind or respectful to the relative – relationships require work.
GPA’s can be influenced by a persons lineage, contacts, or cleavage and are not necessarily earned by honest means. Tests can be bought as can term papers. Software programs require money and/or installation and the know how to run them.
“First of all Buffet” needs to get his story straight then and so do you Limbaugh lapdogs.
I like elRushbo though rare I get to hear his show but he’s just plain old fashioned full of shit sometimes, like most of the mega-rich “experts” and social left-tards out there making all the rules for us poor dumb people to live by.
What a terrible analogy:
-Top GPA earners do not benefit anyone else in the acquisition of their goal, unlike the business-owning job creators (who Comrade John apparently wants to liquidate) – the backbone of the very *notion* of prosperity.
-Top GPA earners cannot spend their GPA points for other things they may want, thereby “re-distributing” the points free of coercion, and also do not, therefore, incentivize others to produce the very things in question.
-Top GPA earners contribute no material wealth to the “GPA public sector”, unlike their top-earning business counterparts who shoulder that burden almost exclusively.
-Top GPA earners cannot even donate – entirely of their own volition – their excessive GPA to a “GPA charity”, unlike top money earners who donate billions of dollars for various causes.
-Top GPA earners are unable to invest their GPA into other GPA-earning individuals or organizations, in hopes of multiplying their GPA wealth, creating more GPA-jobs (and more GPA tax revenue), and resulting in far more people with a far higher GPA than before.
-Top GPA earners cannot borrow GPA from other, more GPA-plentiful individuals or groups for the sake of creating even more GPA over the long term. Nor can they lend their GPA to others, similarly.
-Top GPA earners are unable to tranfer their GPA to other countries where it will be worth more and, regardless, will likely have the effect of raising overall GPA in a given country for every student.
Yes, indeed: a deeply flawed analogy. To exercise extreme “re-distributive” taxation on top monetary earners is far, far more punitive – to far, far more people – than a simple socialization of GPA could ever be.
Just pointing out that the idea that “you have to work for money” like you have to work for your GPA is simply not true. You can make money without doing anything to earn it. Therefore the analogy is false. The rest of the differences just make it worse.

Well if we’re gonna go down the “not veryone works for their money side-road’, how about this?
Truly brilliant kids – just like that rare fellow who is fortunate enough to inherit millions – don’t have to ‘work’ for their GPAs either.
The key issue here is that the wealthy elite DID NOT earn all that dough themselves. No, they earned it on the backs of people they pay poorly, and have little choice but to work for nigh slave wages.

Where would Gore and Strong fit in there?
I mean, they got fabulously wealthy by lying to dummies…rich and poor.
John said: “If you’re going to pay some loser minimum wage to work at McDonalds, at least give the poor bugger universal healthcare, and affordable education. If not, pay them better.”
What absolute drivel, as you cannot “pay them better” without additional negative consequences. You are either willfully obtuse, or not very smart.
Either way…Talk to the “Invisible Hand”!
There are no socialists just those who want others to be socialists.
Just reading Ann Coulter’s new book ‘Demonic’ in which she highlights the ability of liberals to allow two diametrically opposite ideas to peacefully coexist inside their heads.
These students are early examples of that ability.
This is brilliant because it exposes these students to a simple truth that public school and University have hidden from them. The free market system, which is based on our right to own the fruits of our labour (or GPA) and rewards of our risk, is the basis of ALL wealth in the world.
You can’t redistribute you way to a wealthier economy and you can’t spend your way to prosperity.
I’m guessing Alex had to work hard for a low GPA. Like income your marks are very_ correlated with your parents’ income and marks.
My parents were smart, I’m smart. My parents are rich… even if I inherit nothing I’m still likely to be rich.
It’s equality of opportunity not equality of results. We’re giving you the opportunity to see your partisan blindness with poor results.
hmm, a whole bunch of posts proving that leftists believe they can change human behavior through taxation. Good luck with that.
My parents were smart, I’m smart. My parents are rich… even if I inherit nothing I’m still likely to be rich.
It’s equality of opportunity not equality of results.
?
so if I’m a poor dumb trucker with a high school education and my son get’s his first job working at a University co-op for the TSX literally making more $/hr than his Dad, that would be discrimination?
I’m lost
