The Leftist Nirvana in Britain: What a Nightmare!

Imagine having a dream about a bizarre farm run by Farmer Pete. His wife recently finished a book written by a socialist academic in which the author put forth the case that if you’re nice to every animal then they will be nice back to you. Pete was quite skeptical about this but his wife kept on urging him to give the philosophy a try. So he did. Being a sheep farmer, he had barbed wire fencing all around his property. He removed it all as he knew that it could hurt the wolves in the surrounding countryside. He had a couple of sheep dogs that roamed the fields, there to bark if any wolves came near. Pete brought them inside and rarely let them out. Finally, he got rid of his shotgun because, as his wife told him, such an instrument of violence was not in harmony with the philosophy they were now going to live their lives by.
What do you think would have happened next in this dream? If you woke up and found yourself to be a citizen of the UK then you would immediately realize that this dream was simply a metaphor for the nightmare that is your country today.
Professor Joyce Lee Malcolm has written a fact-filled article about the nightmare that is modern day Britain. Starting in the 1950’s the state has systematically removed the rights and the ability of law-abiding citizens to protect themselves. Here’s a snippet:

Burglars who injured themselves breaking into houses have successfully sued homeowners for damages. In February, police in Surrey told gardeners not to put wire mesh on the windows of their garden sheds as burglars might hurt themselves when they break in.
If a homeowner protecting himself and his family injures an intruder beyond what the law considers “reasonable,” he will be prosecuted for assault. Tony Martin, an English farmer, was sentenced to life in prison for killing one burglar and wounding another with a shotgun during the seventh break-in at his rural home in 1999. While his sentence was later reduced to five years, he was refused parole in 2003 because he was judged a danger to burglars.
In 2008, a robber armed with a knife attacked shopkeeper Tony Singh in West Lancashire. During the struggle the intruder was fatally stabbed with his own knife. Although the robber had a long record of violent assault, prosecutors were preparing to charge Mr. Singh with murder until public outrage stopped them.

You can listen to WABC’s John Batchelor interview Professor Malcolm here, beginning at 19:00 (about mid-way).

  1. Un-freaking-believable.
And the politicos are still confused as to why British citizens are leaving the country in droves.

  2. World turned upside down. Civilization in its death throes. The thugs are the honoured citizens.

  3. Mark, sorry about that. I accessed it from Google News. Apparently the WSJ site prevents one from accessing it directly via the URL. I’ve added an addendum at the bottom about how to reach the full article.

  4. Hold your moral outrage in check here folks…this type of nonsense is and has been happening here in Canada. Part of the Lib/Dipper “soft on crime, we must rehabilitate” agenda. A home owner is only allowed “proportional” defense if protecting his property…I like the Chicago way…if they bring a stick you bring a knife…if they bring a knife you bring a gun.

  5. Canadians can’t be smug about this. It isn’t just happening in the U.K. In Canada cops arrive at the scene, determine which party would be easiest to arrest, and arrest that person. And they spend most of their time warning citizens not to try to defend themselves or their property (implicit in this is that vigorous defence of property or person against perpetrators will result in the arrest of the defender).

  6. If someone breaks into your home, who is the last line of defense if you go down?
    Nobody.
Therefore this is a fight you CAN NOT afford to lose. You must be victorious at ALL costs. So blast away.
Whats that saying “judged by twelve rather than carried by six”?
Too bad for the criminal; should have picked a safer line of work.

  7. Can we finish that statement, please?
“If you woke up and found yourself to be a citizen of the UK…
…you’d make your way to Havanna and claim refugee status.”

  8. Hell sounds like Ontario . . . poor little burglars get hurt during a crime and sue the house owner.
Gawd I love the Texas My Castle law.

  9. I recall that story about Tony Martin. If memory serves correctly, the burglar was use as a witness to testify in court. Perverse and disgusting.

  10. Re: “In February, police in Surrey told gardeners not to put wire mesh on the windows of their garden sheds as burglars might hurt themselves when they break in.”
So I expect the practice (common in Latin America) of topping one’s fence with broken glass is out of the question.

  11. “Police have been instructed by the British Home Office to let burglars and first-time offenders who confess to any of some 60 crimes—ranging from assault and arson to sex with an underage girl—off with a caution. That means no jail time, no fine, no community service, no court appearance.”
This will, of course lead to lovely new statistics in which it can be proven that crime rates have declined.
Allah almighty,I knew it was bad there, but not THIS bad!

  12. Kill the intruder quietly (if possible). Wrap the body in a few green garbage bags (preferably biodegradable of course…) and dump the body in a ditch far from your home.
No cops, no fuss, no muss.

  13. Brian M., I believe that’s known as the Shoot, Shovel and Shut up doctrine. A sound course of action under the circumstances.

  14. Having had the loss of face to have been a victim of an armed home invasion…..consequence for the perps…life (out in 4 1/2 years tops). Been there, seen that……
But you do have rights….if the bad guys break into your home…you do have the Constitutional right to leave by the backdoor…and RUNAWAY….anything else and you could face criminal prosecution…..
The Criminal injuries Compensation Board can award an honourarium…for injuries but not for financial loss….max $23,000 whether lump sum or monthly payments…usually takes 2-3 years….however they will pay for the ambulance….in 2-3 years….

  15. Ann Coulter is spot on.
    Liberals Aren’t Funny, They’re a Riot!
    by Ann Coulter
What has gotten on the last nerve of rioters in Greece, Paris and Vancouver? They’re jobless? Their government benefits have been cut? Their hockey team lost? They might as well destroy police cars because they’re upset about rainy days. (That’s not a suggestion, by the way — more of a rhetorical flourish.)

  17. No wonder the Clint Eastwood movies, & Charles Bronson shoot fests agianst criminals where so popular.
Its coming to the tipping point where people don’t care anymore. The Law has become an ass, if not a mule with no sense.
Its hard to get normal people even to work in police departments anymore.

  18. If I didn’t know better I would say the Crown (in England and Canada) want the public to turn to vigilantism. They don’t have to do the dirty work of subduing a criminal but still get to lord their power over you by arresting you.
Has the world taken crazy pills?

  19. Tony Martin is innocent OK

“In February, police in Surrey told gardeners not to put wire mesh on the windows of their garden sheds as burglars might hurt themselves when they break in.”
This is insanity. It’s the police and the criminals on the same side against the citizens. In other words, Great Britain is a police state.
    I blame “sensitivity training”.
    From the political correctness agenda:
    8. an unreliable legal system with bias against the victim of crime

    12. “community of women” to undermine patriarchy
    13. the abolition of private property and of labor itself

  20. When it comes to freedom to protect yourself and your loved ones , the Taliban have a far superior system. They just get rid of the human garbage. So what freedom exactly are we fighting for over there ?. I’m not a big fan of Muslims in general but on some things they have the right idea.

  21. While the situation may appear bleak, there are creative options open to people. It’s clear that criminals have greater rights than non-criminals in Britain, so utilize those laws against the moronic upper classes. I’m sure there are lots of unemployed young men who could, for a small sum of money, to be induced to break into politicians houses and sue the homeowners if injured. In the same “criminal rights” vein, anyone who was robbed would be on far firmer legal ground if they broke into known thieves houses and beat the crap out of the thieves and then made off with their belongings. Suing them if one was injured in the process wouldn’t likely be financially rewarding but one wouldn’t also be charged criminally. To prevent any legal problems which might result from the victim of a crime seen to be taking revenge, people would only deal with thieves they had no previous contact with. I’m sure an anonymous internet service located outside of Britain could match targets with non-related people.
One advantage that Canada has over Britain is that we have a lot of guns and anyone living in a rural location can utilize the SSS approach if they confront an intruder in their home. Drop the body off in a remote area and scavengers will soon dispose of the evidence. People who live in cities have a much harder time with this method. One of the nightmares I had on a few occasions was coming across someone who had broken into my apartment and killing them in a fight — the nightmarish part was suddenly realizing I had a couple of hundred pounds of soon to be decaying organic matter to be disposed of inconspicuously. Never did figure out an easy solution as I usually woke up at that point.
In Canada you DO have a right to confront and attack someone who breaks into your house. The important thing is to first announce that you’re making a citizens arrest and then use the necessary force to effect that arrest. This advice was given to me by a retired detective although he didn’t have an answer when I asked him if he’d have an easier time of it given his connections with the city police force. One lawyer I’ve asked about this has indicated that the advice was legally correct but the police who initially responded would likely not be as friendly as Texas police would be in a similar situation.

  22. Heaven help us from the cops out to justify their jobs.
they remain the biggest most powerful bunch of bullies on the planet; all that power and no accountability (see career of julian fantino, presently a conservatist mp).
it is reassuring every time one of them winds up dead; they are reminded by the Great Lord and Creator that they are in fact NOT immune from the consequences of their actions. I blame every level of rank, from the front lines that gleefully support the higher ups who set the standard, low as it is, to those said same higher ups that give free reign to the rank and file in exchange for their said same support.

  23. The state of civilian self defense and personal security in the UK (and Canada) is an abomination given our common law heritage. Citizens of repressive regimes like China or Russia have more authority to defend themselves than we do. We have suffered through 3 decades of utopian social engineering in which the prime directive was to render the individual a helpless defenseless ward of the super state – civilian disarmament and malicious prosecution of justified self defense were at the forefront of this pathological leftwing political agenda.
Don’t mock the UK for making its citizens defenseless when we had Alan Rock doing it here.

  28. Everything the “Liberal, progressive, left” does defies human nature and its root basic instincts.
The fact that they would dare tell people, indeed force people through law to not have the ability to properly defend themselves or family members is in itself a crime against humanity.
Multiculturalism is a societal crime that every culture in the world well understands aside from European white Liberalism.
The “Left” needs to be held accountable for its crimes against humanity.

  30. While his sentence was later reduced to five years, he was refused parole in 2003 because he was judged a danger to burglars.
The legal system is obligated to protect it’s income source. Ie. Criminals.

  31. I think the bear is onto it. I read a quote somewhere that it is hard to make a man believe something when his livelihood depends on his not seeing it. Dan Hannan maybe?
Anyway, if the choice you are given is between criminal and victim, with nothing in between, it is not a difficult choice is it? The good news is you won’t likely get a custodial sentence for your crimes either.

  32. Paulie said: “The good news is you won’t likely get a for your crimes either.”
Actually Paulie, the robber gets a non-custodial sentence. The w@nkers who robbed Tony Martin were out on the street (and re-arrested, wonder of wonders) years before Martin was. The ones who lived, anyway.
Its the true double whammy. Career criminals get the early release/time served kiss on the cheek. Home defenders get the book thrown at them. Because the solid citizen defending his stuff, they are the ones considered dangerous by the crown AND by the police. They are the ones who have to be suppressed at all costs.
For real. Because, what if the -normal- people all decided not to put up with this crap one of these days, right? What if people who -weren’t- borderline morons fuzzed out on booze, drugs and crappy food decided they weren’t going to take it anymore? Can’t have that!
So the nail which pokes up is hammered down. For now.
