Oy, ‘Oos This Virgil Bloke?

One hopes Publius is right:

The End is Not Nigh

A falling off in educational, political and social standards is certainly evident. The Leviathan of the British state is a grave threat to the future of the country. But we’ve been here before too, in the 1930s and 1970s. In those times were was still a British Establishment worthy of the name. Politicians could quote Virgil while making public speeches and be understood [I’m not sure by how many, actually]. Britain emerged once from Hogarthian squalor, it can do so again. There has always been a great deal of ruin in the country, even in the good old days.

  1. Britain, I’ve of the place, isn’t that some southern Island down around Jamaica somewhere?
Seriously, the economy’s are failing and I suspect things will get much worse. Unless the U.S. can regain control of their own mess they’re going to sink the western world.
Then the filthy rich will finally have all their entitled entitlements, such as, owning/operating a business, corporate mergers, tort laws, lobbying and tax payer subsidised energy, to name only a few, untitled.

  2. “Put yourself in the shoes of the urban poor.”
At least the “disaffected youths” across the US are getting their justice by the flash & beat down whitey mobs this 2011. The UK mobs are contenting themselves to just the goods and burning down middle class neighbourhoods that they deem to be rich. Not allot of satisfaction I would think.
There’s nothing like getting your “respect” and satisfying a drug induced sweet tooth from a 7/11 raid with 50 to 100 brotha’s and sista’s who‘s ancestors may have been repressed a few centuries ago. Yet in the UK, the “youth” looters were after mostly electronics to help bolster their depraved living conditions, while in the US its high end clothing retailers with fashionable hip pop logos.
Me I’ve decided that I’m more on the side of the UK “Youth” looters going for the electronics over the US “youth” looters going for candy & fashion. Each is getting their due respect, but value for output the UK “youth” have a better shtick going with less people in the hospitable. That’s just me.

  3. The only good ending for this is if they Have a Religious revival like the Wesley Brothers did with Methodism. It saved England from the French fate.
That with the knowledge that they have Colonizers among them brought, there by Ignorant People who are blow hards. You cant blame the Folks who benefit from your folly for letting them walk off with your Nation. You voted for it.
The likely hood of both these events happening to the General populaces gestalt is slight. Although the latter danger will loom quick enough, you have to notice.
Thos with other reasons is why I don’t see a rosy Future for Britannia.
I pity our once Mother Country its decline. It never had to be.
Its still reversible but with a Political class, just this side of gone crackers, if not imbeciles, its unlikely. More the sorrow, for not only the past glories of a Great Nation, but the tangible, & Sublime intangibles like the words of the Magna Carta. treasures we will lose.

  4. Immigration is the thing that is killing Britain. In both directions. Sure there are a lot of hard working immigrants to Britain, but there are huge numbers who are illiterate, unskilled and only in it for the benefits. What doesn’t get a lot of press in the massive out migration. There are 500,000 people a year leaving Britain, and they are the makers, not the takers. They are the people who are highly skilled and well educated, they are the people who would have been supporting the multi generational welfare bums. Instead they vote with their feet.

  5. Britain as a nation is too big and too old to be taken down by punks in London.
The British government on the other hand, not so much. We could see England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales break apart again, we could see Parliament permanently suspended, we could see the Monarchy overthrown and replaced by a republic, or even a People’s Republic.
Or we could see the outward form remain unchanged but the size of it reduced by a huge amount, as people take back their rights. That’s my hope.

  6. Britain needs a good, distant war,so they can kick start the economy, and draft a lot of those young hooligans to fight overseas for Allah,Queen, and Country.Might be a bit of a problem with desertion, but….
Only trouble is,against which Countries could they win?

  7. Britain is the author of its own destruction. The class pendulum has swung completely the other way. Where racism and extreme poverty were the norms of nineteenth century Great Britain, racialism and obesity and functional illiteracy coupled with an undeserved sense of entitlement mark the early twenty-first century.
