The U.S. State Department will postpone a decision on whether to approve the Keystone XL pipeline, people familiar with the matter said, in a move that will allow the Obama administration to delay the controversial issue until after the 2012 election.
Oh well. Let the southern bastards freeze in the dark, I guess. Good thing they don’t need the jobs.
Obama truly is the poster child for the new governing class known as The Mediocracy. 🙁
Surprise, surprise, could have seen this coming. Tough decision, so he stalls like the coward that he is.
hope it backfires on him
In other words, the pipeline people haven’t given enough to his campaign yet.
In the meantime, various Commies are drilling in the Florida Straight.
Why should we be surprised?
Look what Barry did to the oil business and the thousands of jobs in Louisianna when he shut down the drilling platforms in the Gulf.
His actions speak louder than his words. He just doesn’t care about the little guy (his own citizens).
Obama votes “Present”.
I believe this means he will okay the pipeline once he’s re-elected. To do so now would upset his base and hurt his electability. Those concerned about ‘job creation’ are already not voting for him; therefore, the non-existent pipeline jobs will not change his numbers.
So Barry is willing to throw the AFLCIO + Steelworkers under the bus to holsd his greenie base.
That should make the unions happy . . . all the money they have flushed down the Democrats sewer and no jobs.
They break legs don’t they?
I called this. Seems that american employment isn’t that important after all.
That pretty much says it all about Obama. The worst president ever from a financial perspective. Let’s drop the Texas line and fast-track a few to the coast. Then the Yanks can bid against China and India and have all the oil they want.
I guess Mark Ruffalo is more powerful than we thought….
I hope to Buddha the Republicans use this most recent inconvenient ruse to beat Obama until he is blue.
Time to start looking at yuan. Bambi is a disaster, but the US in general has been taking us too much for granted.
No cojones. I knew Hillary was the better man for the Democrats.
Scar at 2:01 nailed it. Save the announcement til Oct 31, 2012 though.
.
the oil caught the last line to the coast
the day the keystone died.
obama the procrastinator will cause the shippers to drop it and it will be dead
Yep obambi voted present again.
People are building tent cities and begging for food and water in his major cities, the Obama economic Depression of 2008 just got extended.
Worst predident evah!
When Romney becomes President the US is going to boom.
A 9 month recession stretched into a 70 month malaise…there’s a lot of pent up energy out there waiting for launch codes spelled G-O-P.
The environmental interests in the US are heavily funded by competing interests….primarily the Saudis.
A few weeks ago, it was reported that the Saudis retained the law firm of Norton Rose to send threatening letters to a number of Canadian media outlets, including CTV, that if they continue to air “Ethical Oil” advertising, they would be sued.
On September 22, 2011, the G&M reported a story which said in part “the UK Tar Sands Network demands that the “British government stop defending Canada’s criminal record on climate change.”
In the story which can be viewed here:
http://m.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/ottawa-notebook/keep-alberta-oil-off-your-hands-environmentalists-warn-british-pm/article2175933/?service=mobile
it said that “We would just like to say that David Cameron needs to look at how far he is sidling up to Canada in terms of pushing tar sands oil at a time when people in Europe and the UK are opposed to tar sands extraction,” Gemma Long, a campaigner with the group, said in a telephone interview from Britain.”
So the spokesperson campaigner is someone named Gemma Long……and Gemma Long just happens to be….wait for it…..a banking lawyer specializing in “energy, financial institutions and transport” with the same law firm, Norton Rose.
http://www.nortonrose.com/people/50037/gemma-long
Environmental groups are not environmental groups at all…they are shills….pure and simple.
Obama is onside with blood oil. The blood of Arabs and the blood of American youth to keep fighting the wars to keep the oil flowing. The blood sweat and tears of American workers who pay the taxes to keep fighting the Oil Wars.
One more reason to build a refinery. Why sell raw materials (crude) when finished products (gasoline) are far more lucrative?
If the Shiites in Saudi Arabia ever decide that they are tired of being 2nd class citizens and throw their own Arab Spring, shutting down oil exports, the world would be plunged into an energy shortage.
The voters in America, sitting in lineups to the pumps and seeing their heating costs soar, would likely be in a cranky mood with anyone who was seen as delaying this pipeline.
Let the bastards freeze in the park.
I’ve always felt that despite the opposition there would be no way a sane/competent president facing 10% unemployment and $4/gal gas would delay a project like this ahead of an election year.
I still stand by that point, and it just proves my suspicions about the sane/competent part…
Not at all surprising. The Dems have been avoiding accountability ever since obama was elected. The Dem-controlled has not presented a budget for over 900 days and likely will not for the entire obama presidency.
By creating tsars and using the extra-legislative powers of entities like the EPA and the FED (the fed is funding frank dodd – and thus it is exempt from scrutiny.
I am not surprised. About a month ago there were stories regarding Warren Buffett and Burlington Northern Santa Fe railway, which he owns. If the pipeline fails he stands to gain from shipping it by rail.
Warren Buffett, the Keystone Pipeline, and Crony Capitalism

The Institute for Energy Research had a story a couple days age:
The Turning Tide for World Oil Supplies:
http://www.instituteforenergyresearch.org/2011/11/08/the-turning-tide-for-world-oil-supplies/
Shale Oil in North Dakota? How were they planning to move it? More dirty oil? Yes but it’s American dirty oil.
I can’t see why we are waiting to build west. All natgas and oil can be shipped to the west and it would create lots of jobs in Canada. Also ship east to those poor people in Ont.
&^%#$!*&^#$%^%$$#%$^& Arrrggg, I just don’t know what to say anymore my Canadian Comrades, I don’t. What he is doing now is just beyond all belief.
Comon 2012. I’ll even vote for that damn Mormon.
,
“Let the southern bastards freeze in the dark, I guess.”
Bit harsh, don’t you think?
Obama’s an idiot that can’t make a decision to save his miserable life – that’s understood. However, I support the Keystone project, and even I acknowledge that there are a lot of details that need to be worked out before a pipeline can be approved. Eminent domain issues alone are huge.
Chill, and you might want to keep the name calling/threats to a minimum given that many of us “bastards” down here are actually your allies on this issue.
“Also ship east to those poor people in Ont.

Not a f%^&ing hope! If those Eastern aholes want our petroleum products, they can come earn them HERE,like the rest of us non-socialist rednecks.
Oh wait. Those people are all ready here!Big fence at the Sask/Man border and the AB/BC border. At least that way two of the provinces in Canuckistan would be rat free!!
Be nice there is still two hard working souls left in Ont. And only 10000 jobs to fill in Sask.
“C’mon 2012. I’ll even vote for that damn Mormon.”
There’s a bumper sticker with potential.

Perhaps you aren’t familiar with the historical origin of the expression which was originally popularized as: “let the Eastern Bastards freeze in the dark” (circa 1979), which was aimed at Eastern Canadians who, through their Liberal parliamentarians, a decade earlier had blocked a pipeline planned to take Western crude all the way to Montreal from Manitoba. Venezuelan oil supplied most of eastern Canada and was cheaper in those pre-OPEC days. After the Oil shock of the seventies, Trudeau, Canada’s Obama, came up with a “National Energy Plan” which looted oil wealth from the West and used it to subsidize those Eastern Bastards (All Canadians subsidize Quebec Dairy producers to this day) who, up until that time had no use for Western oil. The Western provinces, particularly Alberta, were naturally outraged. Any Albertan old enough to remember that pipeline debate is still very sensitive to the issue.
The first Affirmative Action president votes present yet again. What a dufus.
Even if one could relocate the pipeline, what purpose would it serve? Environmentalists despise oil and its outcomes and Obama cares as much about America as he does toe lint.
“If those Eastern aholes”.
Thanks.

rindlrad …. there’s sub context to that line …..
Chill yerself cause the slur you imagined is not aimed at you.
No OMMAG but it is aimed at me, an Eastern “ahole”.
I’m sick and tired of being lumped in with the “aholes” of the East. Just because I live here doesn’t mean I go along with them.
Don’t paint all the Eastern folks with the same brush.
“Any Albertan old enough to remember that pipeline debate is still very sensitive to the issue.”
Sensitive? SENSITIVE??? What on EARTH makes you think we are SENSITIVE about being fucked over royally by PeeAire Effin Trudeau? Why should I be sensitive about my father losing his entire ‘fortune’, (family savings, a house, and a small business), and dying penniless when our economy collapsed due to the NEP? My children were not alive then, but they know all about it because I tell them about it. Repeatedly. Ad nauseum perhaps, but I make damned sure they know, to safeguard against it ever happening again. Peeing on PeeAire’s grave is on my bucket list. But why do you say we are sensitive about the way that rat bastard raped my province?
(OK, maybe I am a little sensitive about it.)
ps In unrelated news, we plan on vacationing in Montreal next fall to see the autumn colours. Does anyone know the address of Trudeau’s grave?
In the 70’s new house, high paying job, truck hotshoting,
wife and kids. PEEAIR came and said bendover. Lost it all but still think we should ship oil and gas east. He’s dead. THANK GOD.Whats good for the east can help us all.

No, I was not familiar with the background of the expression. Thanks for the clarification. Sorry for over-reacting. I’ll go take a chill pill myself, now and get over it.
I think the ease with which $ billions were looted from the West is still troubling. When oil was $50 per barrel the federal government was taxing $41 and subsidizing imports for eastern Canada. It is like we didn’t exists. I still have to make it to Montreal to pee on Trudeau’s grave.
OMMAG at November 10, 2011 7:11 PM
I’m chilling – I’m chilling. 🙂
Keystone and Gateway (to the west) are not mutually exclusive. While they dither, we should build west. If after we get Gateway done and they wake up, we can supply the product if THEY finance Keystone. Or they can freeze in the dark.
If they (USA) don’t want the pipe line…built a big pipeline to our left coast…make sure its big enough to carry all the oil going south plus more…when its completed divert all the oil going south….the oil will be sold to others..that way all the jobs will be in Canada..
“So Barry is willing to throw the AFLCIO + Steelworkers under the bus to holsd his greenie base.”
I guess that demonstrates that the wakko celebrity and ecotard side of his base is bigger than the working and taxpaying side.
Hank, don’t count on Gateway. The big US foundations have been pouring money into Canadian ENGOs to stop Gateway as well. Add in a Saudi mix and it’s in trouble too. Remember, China is one of Saudi Arabia’s biggest customers, and the last thing they want is a lot of Canadian oil crowding them in one of their fastest growing markets.
And they aren’t restricted by anything like due process or ethics back in Riyadh. Right now, the biggest enemies Canada has are environmentalists blocking alternatives to Persian Gulf oil. Boneheads dredging up decades-old grievances from the Trudeau administration are just playing into the hands of the enemy.
Relax folks, it’s politics.
In Edmonton the taxpayers are going to build a billionaire a new hockey rink. Think that issue came up in the recent municiple elections?
A year from now the U.S. election will be over and the new president will approve the pipeline.
I just got home from hunting in the U.S. I met a lot of trucks loaded with Keystone pipe heading south out of AB. In AB the pipe is spotted along the right-of-way and the crews are boring river crossings under the Red Deer and S. SK rivers as I write.
Think this thing ain’t goin’ ahead?
