For Obama, preventing deeper cooperation between capitalist Canada and capitalist US is an ancillary benefit: the radical left views division between western nations as facilitating the destruction of the western, pluralistic, capitalistic system that the left recognizes as an enemy to the authoritarian plans they strive to impose on western societies.
The only detail necessary for Keystone to proceed immediately is the replacement of Obama by a president who has America’s best interests at heart.

Foobert has it right. The CN PipelineOn Rail project is the way to go. The infastructure is mostly there already, all that is needed is the tank farms in Vancouver and Pr. Rupert. CN claims they can move 4M barrels a day to any point in North America. No enviromental impact studies or payoffs for Natives. Some double tracking needed in the tight spots on the Vancouver rail line. And the cost per barrel per mile is actually lower than by pipeline. I have read some of the studies. Google up CN PipeLineOn Rail. Pr. Rupert is ideal because it is 2 full shipping days closer to Asia than any port in North America. That is huge. And Kitimat has one of the best deep water ports on the west coast. Beauty is the oil could still move to Texas without Obammies approval at all, CN is leading the way…
I read somewhere that Warren Buffett is a big played in the rail-oil enterprise. Warren wants the rich to pay higher taxes. Obama likes that. Obama delays pipeline. Warren makes more bucks, whether he pays more taxes or not. Following the money?

Which way he’s going on this decision would be very relevant information for anyone looking at a ballot with his name on it next November. By pushing it to after the election, he’s all but saying out loud that his successor gets to decide in 2013.
The problem with oil by rail to Prince Rupert is its a single track that runs along one or more major fish bearing salmon rivers almost all the way from Prince George to Prince Rupert. If environmentalists let them start hauling oil they won’t be able to haul anything else. What about the coal trains and container trains that go to Rupert? What about the lumber cars and chip trains that go to PG?
