  1. I watched this vid twice.
Correct me if I’m confused about what I saw, but it seems to me that the debate moderator was engaging in debate with Newt Gingrich, one of the candidates.
Why does the GOP set up the circumstance where such a thing is even possible?

  2. “Why does the GOP set up the circumstance where such a thing is even possible?”
Because, Oz, the MSM has degenerated to the point where it’s impossible to find neutral moderators. More specifically, it’s impossible to find democratic-minded, professional-standards-compliant journalists willing to put aside their own personal politics and moderate a debate in a neutral manner. (Macro-example of MSM liberal bias.)

  3. If Gingrich wins the nomination I’ll want to be hit by one of those bombs. Gingrich: a pile of cliches, a gross overconfidence in his own intellect, and totally bereft of any guiding philosophy other than his own ego. A kind of Teddy Roosevelt Republican, but with mass graves of skeletons in his closet.

  4. I would much rather Gingrich than any of those other fools on the stage. While I think Ron Paul has some good ideas when it comes to monetary policy, that’s where he ends. The rest of them I frown upon.
Gingrich has confidence in his own intellect, which when I’ve compared it to many other politicians is well placed confidence.
The best thing about Gingrich’s skeletons is that they aren’t in a closet – everyone knows about his multiple wives and his political history!

  5. “…Obama will bomb France…”
And there are other upsides too! I mean, at least Newt’s smart. (Why Not Newt!?! 2012)
Look at the line up, people. It’s not good. Cain is sinking and Perry’s looking weirder and weirder. Romney’s to the left of Barry’s teleprompter. We can’t have a McCain The Sequel situation. At this point, I want Gingrich.
    Other slogans: Sure he’s slimey. He’s a Newt! 2012!
He mostly comes out at Presidential elections. Mostly.

  6. the MSM has degenerated to the point where it’s impossible to find neutral moderators.
    ~Dave in Pa
The GOP could have insisted on Sharyl Attkisson as the debate moderator.

  7. Newt gingrich is the best and Obama will get his butt kicked. Reason why is Newt Gingrich is hard to play the Gotcha thing to and don’t need a teleprompter. Newt gingrich for president and Herman cain VP because Newt and Herman cain get along well.

  8. Gingrich is not only the smartest of the Republican candidates, he also knows exactly what he stands for and doesn’t care if it makes him look un-presidential; Romney is one of those smooth, mushy-middle candidates whose raison d’être is to look and sound presidential – that’s why he’ll end up being the Republican nominee.
As for the debates, it’s a joke to let journalists set the agenda. Republicans should stage their own debates and allow the networks who want to carry them to do so. The repulsively smug members of the media party like Scott Pelley shouldn’t be given an opportunity to campaign on behalf of the Democrats.
Libertariansaresmarter (12:32): Who are you hoping will be the Republican nominee for President?

  9. Newt gingrich is the best and Obama will get his butt kicked. Reason why is Newt Gingrich is hard to play the Gotcha thing to and don’t need a teleprompter. Newt gingrich for president and Herman cain VP because Newt and Herman cain get along well.

  10. I was impressed with the level of debate. Newt has the experience and grasp of history and the Constitution to blow Obama out of the water. I thought that Rick Perry was strong, likable and humorous, and Herman Cain is far from sinking.

  11. I would love to see a debate between Obama and Newt on the Constitution, and legal nuances applying to such. Even better if Ezra was one of the panel asking the questions.

  12. If he entirely quits that church of climate alarmismm and ignores Pelosi from now on – then, ok.

  13. EBD – “Romney is one of those smooth, mushy-middle candidates whose raison d’être is to look and sound presidential – that’s why he’ll end up being the Republican nominee.”
    Please don’t say that.
ron in kelowna – that was one ad, and he’s backed away from it. In fact I think he said it was the stupidest thing he ever did or something (I assume he’s excepting his “romantic” life).

  14. While one of the commenters here smokes a bowl and waits for the first strike, the rest seem to be the ‘smarter’ ones.
A few notes on the primary debates.
All of the other candidates avoid, like the plague, giving Newt the opportunity for a rebuttal.
Newt has been mentioned by more candidates as a potential running mate than any other.
And, if you haven’t noticed, Newt is leading his party already by keeping the focus of the debates on Obama.
    Baggage, shmaggage.
I’ve said it before: We’re choosing weapons here, not friends. I believe that a vote for Gingrich, no matter how dispassionate, is the right choice.
    Got Newt?

  15. Romney is a Rino.
    No more Rino’s.
Cain, Rubio, maybe even a Christie or a Jindal.
    ABR.
    Anybody But a Rino!

  16. chutzy – between the unfounded and unfair smears and, far more importantly, his own lack of a grasp of the issues, Cain isn’t looking good right now. I like him, but that’s not enough. As for Perry, have you seen this? (Yes, I know nobody’s perfect and no, he doesn’t strike me as drunk. Still, yikes.): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSJv-2qfDNc

  17. I forgot to mention that if you think you’ve seen John Boehner cry, just watch if Newt gets the nod. Boehner is one of the back stabbers who went after Newt right after the Dems. screwed him for using campaign funds to cover video costs for the college course he was teaching. (Later found by the IRS to be legal.)
    “Leadership challenge
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newt_Gingrich
In the summer of 1997 several House Republicans, who saw Gingrich’s public image as a liability, attempted to replace him as Speaker. The attempted “coup” began July 9 with a meeting between Republican conference chairman John Boehner of Ohio and Republican leadership chairman Bill Paxon of New York.”

Gingrich will be writing an executive order for Boehner to suck on a pacifier for four years and assign him to the rules committee.

  18. Did you guys catch when Newt told the moderator he was not going to answer his question basically requesting he put down Romney?
Newt replied that this forum should not be to have a Republican candidate bashing contest instead the focus should be on Obama’s failed presidency…Basically saying: “Anybody on this stage can do a better job than Obama”.
I’m with Black Mamba, Newt is the bright shinning star and he is now my first choice…Herman is good but Newt is formidable and would make one hell of a commander in chief…With Cain as VP would be an unstoppable ticket.
    Libertariansaresmarter,
Your analysis of Gingrich is an over the top pile of exagerations…….Just answer the question, who is your first pick?….None of the above is not an option.

  19. The Newt/Pelosi ad captures the essential Newt. He hasn’t the guts to be president; he’s just a talker.

  20. No idea if Newt’s ‘baggage’ – unsurprisingly distorted by the MSM – will prevent his nomination, but the other candidates should certainly be taking notes from the good professor in ‘Testicle Location – 101’.
    Newt for Press Secretary: 2012-2020!
If I remember correctly, the 2008 Democratic field refused to participate in a Fox News hosted debate. Say what you will about the donks, but they rarely match the political stupid of the Stupid Party.

  21. small c
hold yor freinds close, hold yer NMEs even closer
that Newt understands the difference between being a perticipatory member of a society and entitled to the protection of those “laws” of said society, and placing oneself outside those same laws as a NMER combatant which is beyond most people, is a huge plus. Willing to articulate that opinion in a public debate shows leadership. I’m slowly changing my opinion on the Newt, as Bachman, Perry, Romney, all religious wackjobs

  22. Slightly off topic, Gingrich has just offered a solution to combat those that wish to repatriate little Omar.
He’s not a refugee, he’s an admitted to committing war crimes.

  23. I’m a Canadian and I don’t know who that smug blonds asshole commentator is? He is not a moderator because he wasn’t moderating anything, he was attacking from a platform of privilege.

  24. After watching the 90 minute debate it is impossible for me to conclude anything other than Scott Pelly’s inflated opinion of himself took far more away from the debate than it contributed.
If ever there was a reason for the public to demand an apology, both from CBS and from Scott Pelly, this is it. Pelly’s treatment of the candidates was nothing less than disgraceful.

  25. There are 2 Americas, the one of failure and despair I want your wealth so I can occupy a public park and smoke weed that the media and their sock puppets love are currently running that America, Then there is the real America, the John Wayne Ronald Reagan, get off your lazy ass stop your whining get to work and make something of your self Newt Herman Cain type of America the media so hates, as displayed by this putz of a moderator. America has to decide if it wants to be great again or wallow in the Oprah Obama Ayers Sharpton inspired sh.t and muck they are currently in, easy choice when you have Pride!

  26. Mr. Gingrich has yet to make an appearance on the Mark Levin Show, there’s a few things that need to be cleared up before those who see themselves as part of the TEA Party will give their support to him. We’ve all seen what happens when someone elected is crowned as “the smartest President everrrrr” .. it isn’t important that Newt has the intellectual capacity to smash B. Hussien in his smug-mug repeatedly, (although I’d enjoy seeing that repeatedly), he only needs to be correct in what is best for The Republic, and what they need now is someone who can do the right thing, i.e. R.Reagan repairing B. Carter’s legacy of mediocracy.
The mess from the current administration, is going to take two full terms to clean up, and I’m not referring to only the financial mess. Everything that B. Hussien has done, has damaged the USA.
Mr. Cain’s 9-9-9 tax reform is very much in the public eye still, I wouldn’t count him out just yet.
    Romney , “Guy Smiley” … exactly. 🙂
The moderator? … exactly what I’d expect from CBS. All of the candidates should have been briefed that the moderator, any moderator from CBS, is not their friend, at all times their guard needs to be kept up, and they shouldn’t be accorded any rite of friendship. They’re simply not on the Republican’s side as they see their role as one of correcting, of guiding the right to their proper place within America.

  27. I don’t think Romney is left of Obama’s teleprompter. However, he is a politician in old line sense of the word. Newt is more ideologically driven.
Now, going down to defeat as a moral victory, as the NDP was content to do. just isnt worth it. So Romney would be my first choice because I think he is best int e general and I think a Tea Party congress will bring out his inner cnservative.
BUT……if Newt continues to rise and shows a broader electability I agree he is the deepest thinker in the room. Call him a Republican Clinton, for all the good and the bad.

  28. I pray that we get the strongest, smartest and most conservative nominee. That may be Newt, if only because it’s a shallow field this time around.
I have never like Romney because he is a Liberal in a really nice suit.
Ron Paul has some great ideas, but then gets whacko about Iran and being their friend.
    Perry is scary,
Cain cannot win although I really like him,
    The rest are filler.

  29. I’m certainly not the first to ask this question but WHY does the GOP have the DEM party (MSM) run its debates. As Kate says, “The Stupid Party”.
I like Cain but I liked him more before the HAT. What in gawd’s name are they thinking? He looks like a pimp waiting for his Pink (purple?) Cadillac.
EBD: libertariansaresmarter (the guy who cited Newt’s ego!) would obviously choose the anti-semitic madman Ron Paul.
What’s with this RINO thing: Republicans in Name Only? If by Republican who mean pro-limited government, aren’t all Republicans, with any hope of winning, (clearly not the nutter Paul) RINOs.
Aren’t Republicans the DIFFERENTLY BIG GOVERNMENT party?

  30. lIBERTARIANWHATEVER:
but with mass graves of skeletons in his closet
THAT REALLY IS RHETORICAL SHARK JUMPING.

  31. Newt’s the architect of Contract With America in 1994, he kicked Billy Clinton’s @$$ and got welfare reform passed.
They could do worse than pick this guy.

  32. Cain for Prez.,Newt for VP.
Cain is an outsider, black, and he’s actually accomplished something in his life. In a debate with Obama, Cain in a walk. Biden versus Gingrich?
    I feel sorry for Joe.
Cain is the outsider America needs,Gingrich has the inside-Washington experience to advise him on political machinations, probably the best at that job available.
With any other combination, especially if the GOP is stupid enough to run an all-white ticket against the incumbent,we’d better prepare to welcome Obama to a second term.
And for crissakes would you Yankees quit buying up all the reloading supplies?

  33. Me No Dhimmi
“I’m certainly not the first to ask this question but WHY does the GOP have the DEM party (MSM) run its debates. As Kate says, “The Stupid Party”. ”
Yeah funny(queer)that…but they also let the Dems run their primaries, their conventions and select their candidates….
The donks have this leverage because of their almost total domination of the media….and explains their FOX-derangement syndrome….as bitter as the Palin/Bush DRS…..

  34. A Gingrich/Cain ticket, with either on top, wouldn’t be bad at all. Two common sense people.
Cain has a said a number of times that what the US needs more than anything else right now is problem solvers. He’s quite correct on that point, because it is going to take very good problem solvers to repair the utter mess Obama has made.
I was pleased to hear Gingrich say he would have approved the Keystone XL pipeline. Obama should be thrown out of office for that decision alone. Obama is an idiot pandering to those who want to destroy the country just so that he can get votes.
It will be a relief to see Obama out so the US can get back on track, and so we don’t have to see his arrogant, racist wife use the White House as a frat house.

  35. MND: actually I’d take Gary Johnson over any of them. Ron Paul’s FP is no good but if you think he’s anti-semitic then you aren’t as smart as I thought you were.
If it’s true that Gingrich just wants to bash Obama, then he is totally unfit for nom. Anybody can bash Obama and his fixation on that just betrays his fear of having to critically analyse and get critically analysed by his competition.
Gingrich actually put forward a bill mandating the death penalty for drug smugglers in 1996. So he’s sleazy and insane: http://reason.com/blog/2011/06/17/how-gingrichs-love-drives-him
The guy cannot make priorities and actually thought the government should prohibit the ground zero mosque. http://reason.com/archives/2010/10/04/scary-monsters He has no more love of freedom than Romney he’s just a lot more human-like.

  36. It’s good practice to have the MSM libtards running the debates. Smoke out all their stupidity NOW instead of during the campaign. By campaign time the candidate has heard all their garbage and answered it all. Newt or Romney would kill the obummer. I’m not worried. In the end it all comes down to who can get congress on side anyway.

  37. Gingrich could never win against Obamba, he is simply not black enough in today’s America. The only candidate that has a shot against Obamba is Cain. Another possibly would be Robert Mugabe if he claimed to be born in Alaska but inadvertently somehow ended up in Africa at an early age. The left would eat it up like candy.
Anyway not intending to be a spoiler, and not knowing the intricacies of US law – BUT, I don’t think any US citizen should be supporting Gingrich’s comments about killing US citizens if they are deemed by some government panel to be {Enemies of the State}. It sets a precedent that future Americans may very much regret. This particular case against a Muslim American should be an impeachable offence by Obamba. Today’s American Muslim terrorist is easily tomorrows American white middle class patriot who believes in home schooling and sensible small. In fact you only need to study the David Koresh Branch Devonian fiasco a little to realize that fact.
We need to be very careful today with allowing our monstrously large government institutions to degrade our rights and freedoms “for our own protection”. In case anyone hasn’t been paying attention, we are losing them incrementally every passing year as the “Left” rises, the intellectual class elites close ranks and we import millions of dull and unskilled Third World peoples to cripple our cultures and economy.

  38. libertariansaresmarter:
Well, you’ve noticed “smart” appears nowhere in my nom de blog. I figured it would be too much of a burden!
HOWEVER, we are in complete agreement on Gary Johnson. Extremely impressive.
Clarifying: A long time ago I stopped differentiating between anti-zionists and anti-semites. Anti-zionism is just a more polite way of saying anti-semite much as sociopath is a kinder/gentler term for psychopath tho’ they’re the same thing (hint: a psychopath does not necessarily wield a chainsaw or axe).
Oh, and one more thing: be clear that a lot of this End the Fed stuff (which I favour) we see out there, including in the OWS movement, can be readily translated as “kill the jews” (jewish bankers). Being a smart guy yourself you must read the subtext!

  39. Above shorted sentence should have read –
“Today’s American Muslim terrorist is easily tomorrow’s American white middle class patriot who believes in home schooling and sensible small government”.

  40. Oh, and libertariansaresmarter, I’m with you on the bogus energy independence. I’m big on division of labour and the law of comparative advantage. And I don’t think America needs 700+ military bases to secure its “interests”. The free market will handle that quite handily.
Why not food independence, car independence, computer independence, clothing independence, Depends independence?
    Autarky = poverty.

  41. Libertariansaresmarter sometimes almost gets it right, namely with advocating smaller government and the erosion of freedoms, but then misses the bigger picture by encouraging multiculturalism and open borders.
Supporting the encroachment of Islam does not bode well for future freedom and liberty in western societies. Neither does the epidemic illegal migration of Third World crime, diseases, and lifestyles injected into western economies and cultures. Support of which is not “smarter”, it’s delusional and distinctly a leftard fantasy world identification tag.

  42. I certainly don’t doubt Newt’s intelligence. I also wouldn’t vote for him. The problem with very bright people is that they tend to rely on their own intellect too much and reject the wisdom of the people. An example is Alison Redford here in Alberta. Alison is a very bright person. However she is deaf and blind to the concerns of the every day Albertan. She will continue to make a hash of Alberta just like Special Ed who again trusted too much on his own judgement and not enough on the man in the street. I would far sooner have Cain with his council of wise men than brainiac ‘I don’t listen to anyone else’ Gingrich.

  43. And I don’t think America needs 700+ military bases to secure its “interests”. The free market will handle that quite handily.
    – Me No Dhimmi
Regime change in Iran will not come from the free market; if it is to arrive before the first Iranian nuke, it will have to come from bombers flying from Diego Garcia, and naval and marine units. As scores of subjugated populations through the millenia would attest , only the dead have seen the end of war, no matter how much we might wish it otherwise.
