The Modern Left: Unhappy, Miserable Souls

I’m down in Silicon Valley this weekend to watch the Sharks-Canucks game tonight. Watching the local news out of San Francisco last night, this was the lead story. Here’s a video taken by one of the participants in the “protest”:

Just imagine, for a second, taking your children Christmas shopping and encountering riot police blocking a horde of smelly, dirty neanderthals from advancing forward. Why did the police have to be there? Because the iPad toting barbarians wanted to disrupt a Christmas tree lighting ceremony.
Stop for a moment to digest the full meaning of such actions.
Who, in their right mind, would do such a thing? What’s next for these creeps? Blocking children from seeing Santa Claus at the mall? Stripping houses of Xmas lights? Blocking Christmas tree lots? Preventing kids from gathering chocolate eggs at Easter? Standing in front of Girl Guides selling cookies?!?
Through it all these Rabid Leftists are absolutely unapologetic, feeling no shame whatsoever. They have been so deeply brainwashed that they believe they’re on a righteous crusade to change the behaviour of the rest of us “to be more enlightened” like them. It doesn’t take much research to find out when in history forced reeducation was tried before … and always ended up very unpleasantly.
Charles Adler shares his thoughts on what’s going on with these thugs.
For the record, I absolutely believe that Christmas has become too commercialized. For many it has become all about the shopping, all about the gifts. I have made my own decision to cut down on the gift portion of the holiday and instead focus on writing personal extended letters to the loved ones in my life. But never have I dreamed of telling others what they should do with their time & money, let alone tried to physically stop them from engaging in any such activities. That’s a step way too far that no freedom loving person would ever do. But as we see all around our daily lives, Leftists have never actually believed in Freedom, have they?!

I hate those letters. Humbug !

  2. “Who, in their right mind, would do such a thing?”
A paid political activist trying to get a headline and two minutes on the 6 o’clock news. Astroturf depends on stunts and media coverage.
On a much more important topic Robert, if you’re in Silicon Valley I highly recommend a side-trip to the Computer History Museum. 1401 N. Shoreline Blvd in Mountain View, http://www.computerhistory.org/
The Babbage Analytical Engine alone is worth it. Wear good shoes, you’ll stay all day.
The other extremely kewl thing is the Tech Shop, http://www.techshop.ws/ The oldest/biggest location is Menlo Park. Its frickin’ geektastic.
Other than those two things you’ll think you’re in Etobicoke with palm trees. Its -boring-.

  3. Phantom –
Visiting Silicon Valley may be boring. Living there certainly isn’t. Its problems led me to move away a year and a half ago. The people there, however, while they are frequently amoral and self-centered, are, as a group, the most intellectually stimulating people whom I’ve ever encountered.

  4. I would love to have been there with the capability to deliver a couple of balloons filled with vinegar or pig-sty run-off. Incoherent, whiny red-headed kid would get the first on.

  5. Jim, I’m sure that’s true. They invented the modern age right there. We have friends who live there, Ed Wozniak showed up at their kid’s school play to give a speech.
She says Ed’s a cool guy and all, but he “lost” his custom Humvee in the parking lot. 🙂

  6. “But never have I dreamed of telling others what they should do with their time & money…… Leftists have never actually believed in Freedom, have they?!”
Exactly my sentiments. No,they seem to want power without working for it,maybe they figure they can demonstrate and whine their way to the top.
The miserable SOB’s can’t stand seeing anyone enjoy themselves.
Eventually, when the majority gets sick and tired of their shenanigans, they ARE going to get their comeuppance.
I hope it’s not very pleasant.

  7. Good write-up. It mirrors my feelings of the Christmas shopping season perfectly.
ALL my Christmas shopping will again be online mostly with airmiles because the Happy Holiday shopping spectacle physically turns my stomach. The worst part of it is the miserable and inconsiderate hordes of people nearly climbing over each other to be first for everything much like shopping in India or China.
Happy, my @ss it’s the cult of consumerism practiced by the fanatical materialist herd buying a whole bunch of crap they will barley ever use.

  8. DMorris and Knight99, I’ve taken to calling it the Festival of Mammon, just to distinguish actual Christmas from the really objectionable commercialization. Not original to me, but a good one.
They put up the Christmas decoration the day after Halloween this year. I just can’t participate in something that messed up. Unplug the TV and the radio, it really helps cut down on the “holiday” propaganda.
However, not participating is a whole different ballgame than staging a sit-in in the middle of an intersection and screwing up everybody’s shopping trip.

  9. Christmas is a really happy time of year, regardless of whether “Stick in the Mud” Islanders (lol, sent from my LT in Campbell River) think so or not.
Very good vibes dominate and there’s more love in the air at Christmas than at any other time….just as there should be after all.

  10. This nonsense could be dispersed in seconds if the police advanced on the group with soap and water.

  11. LOL. After seeing some of those Black Friday “trample” videos, I sure as heck wouldn’t get in the way of American shoppers….

  12. These people are mostly mindless looters, thugs, and leftist foot soldiers. They are there to distract the media away from Obama’s war on prosperity (America’s fiscal disaster). He has organized his community. If they physically block people from going about their business and in the absence of a functioning police force they deserve to be beaten to a pulp. It’s that simple.

  13. Why do the cops stop traffic?
Streets are for cars everywhere else is for people.
If the cops didn’t stop traffic there wouldn’t be a problem.
I’d love it if some dirty hippie with a bullhorn would step in front of my truck and try to stop me from driving on the road.
The police are 50% of the problem, without them drivers would sort these dillweeds out.

  14. Taking advantage of despondency is a key factor is the drug trade.
There is no hope, only hopelessness among those who are unwilling to pay the price of life’s necessary struggles, the only way they can better themselves.
Instead, they waste their lives by getting wasted.

  15. On the QT (from a secret source deeply embedded within the Occupy movement) – the Occupy grinches may next try and stop people from entering NHL games. Grey Cup too?
CFL/NHL – teams?? Commercilization of violence???
Good luck with that and they may wish for the G8/G20 Tehranto cops all over again.
    Bring on the Xmas trees.

  16. Robert, great thread comment. You ask “But as we see all around our daily lives, Leftists have never actually believed in Freedom, have they?!” That is bang on and has been the case since October 1917.
    Have fun at the game.

  17. They’re planning on “occupying” the santa clause parade tonight in Victoria. They had a poll on the news last night and 97% of respondents said they don’t want to see that happen. Pretty damn close to 99%. Anyway I’ll be there and if these terrorists show up they will get a piece of my mind. I won’t pull a Pat Martin though since kids are going to be there including mine.

  18. I’m waiting for a Reagan “if they want a blood bath, I’ll give them one” moment.
    (crickets)
    Still waiting…

  19. The Phantom >
“I’ve taken to calling it the Festival of Mammon”…
That about sums it up perfectly!
It’s precisely why it’s a “Holiday Season” with no specific religious or cultural affiliation required. You only need the ability to slam your car door into the next in overstuffed parking lots, elbow fellow shoppers out of your way with a grim smile, and flash some cash for some made in China garbage.
A perfect cult herd mentality involving the multicultural union of corporate greed meets Liberal Progressive ideology.

  20. I think it is petty cool that the cops are on trail bikes. That way they can chase the scummers anywhere they can run…. alleys, parks … up stairs etc. Very smart move to get away from those old hulking Harleys that leak oil and can’t go anywhere but the highway.

  21. “He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.” – Luke 22:36.
Not a big one for scripture, but we can’t say we weren’t warned. Communism is the most evil philosophy ever devised. We know from history, repeatedly, where this can lead.

  22. I was in San Francisco last week. As I got off the Amtrak bus at the Ferry Building, there were the (unoccupied?) tents. And some Che Guevara flags. Apparently no one told them that you don’t create much change in the US while waving Che Guevara flags.

  23. I’m in a small town in east central Ontario- Pop=1500. Today is the Santa Claus parade. The town is absolutely packed with people and kids from the out lying communities. Portable grand stands, horse drawn wagons and a giant Christmas tree. It took me 20 minutes to drive from one end of town to the other in a 2 stop light town.
I would love to see some whiny OWS’ers come here and try to disrupt this hard working farm communities Christmas celebration. It would be an epic beatdown. Short but epic.

  24. I think many of these people probably have some serious mental health issues.
Its actually pretty sad watching them.
As far as the Unionists are concerned, they’re pretty despicable for using these people to further their own greedy ambtions.

  26. “What’s next for these creeps? Blocking children from seeing Santa Claus at the mall? Stripping houses of Xmas lights?”
I’ve always been told Santa brings naughty children a lump of coal, if these cretins aren’t careful he might bring them a small chunk of lead gift wrapped in copper foil via air mail.

  27. As a christian i sit back a laugh at the culturless secular athiest’s who stand in lines to purchase gift’s to try to show there worth to fellow loved ines it is soo funny those gift’s are hollow . Just like secular athiest’s until they decide to fill themselves up with the spirit christmas will alway’s be this …..mark my words this trend will continue to grow shopping ,material thing’s , so on and so forth ,becasue as people files out of churches ,they also lose focus of what christmas is all about so they need to put there own meaning it witch is now purchasing rediculous amounts of gift’s , and making a consumptuos apetite the staple of there of there holiday’s , as just like there gift’s there is no meaning to them anymore just material sybolism.
Even if they found the ark , a real christian would not give a crap (may feel vidicated or a sence of joy) as christian FAITH does not nore has it ever been based on physical evidence and any christian who feels this is a requiremnt is not a christian but one of these folks you see here in this video or might as well be.
Faith ,Hope,Joy in jesus christ’s birth are to me what christimas is about. Sure i will get my daughter a small gift or two same with my wife but that’s it my brother is having his third child so i will (as a dutiful uncle) get the kids something small nothing more than ten bucks each and that’s it . We emphasis jesus birth at christmas and we celebrate it with lot’s of good food and wine and prayer.
Maybe if these people started to bleive in something bigger than themselves maybe there christmas would have morem eaning and give them something to celebrate.

  28. Yes folks, let’s see what we can do to slow down the economy even further.. Frick’in pinheads.

  29. San Fransisco is like Disney Land: Great entertainment value but not reality. SF always has been wacky, probably why people love to visit and unlike the Hotel California, you can leave. trouble is that those who live there drink the koolade.

  30. To bad Dirty Harry isn’t in his prime he would make a great police chief right about now in SF. The only ouccpying they would be doing is the ER at SF General Hospital.

  31. I’d like to see these spoiled bitches demonstrating for liberty in Damascus.
I expect the Communists were the most organized, but I saw no signs.
Anyway, how was the game, better than that amateurish shower?

You disparage me. I am a secular atheist, but I do inhabit a metaphysical and philosphical universe, as do you.I understand your position and support you in its defense against socialist secuarism and atheism. But I am not either of these two, although I am atheist philosophically.

  34. Christmas is a religious holiday. If you aren’t religious, then kindly don’t take it. It isn’t for you. Work and work hard, you miserable atheist.
Christmas Eve; Christmas day; New Year’s Eve (St. Syvester’s Eve); all have beautiful services. Much better than anything on television.
If you worship over Christmas, as you were intended to, you won’t have problems with feelings of spiritual emptiness,
or with overcommercialisation; and family conflicts, which are the curse of any holiday, will probably be lessened.
Society will not do this for you. You must do it for yourself.

  35. So there are humbuggers in SanFran?
    Say it ain’t so….
    CHEERS
    Hans Rupprecht, Commander in Chief
    1st Saint Nicolaas Army
    Army Group “True North”

  36. The left believes that everyone has the freedom to think, feel and do exactly as they do. Because we all know that if you think, feel and do differently then them you are defective and require saving from them and their intellectual reasonable selves.

  37. This Christmas is going to be extra special.
My father loved it, it is by far the one occassion that he wanted to everyone to share.
He passed away just last October. His best gift that he shared with us was an ability to find the humour in any situation no matter how bad it is.
I feel sorry for the occupiers, they completely miss the point of Christmas, more so than anyone they point their finger at. The point is that no matter how bad you think things are, there is always hope, and joy, especially in fellowship. Perhaps they are experiencing just such as they gather to protest, but once the chanting starts the feeling is quashed for another message of no hope, no joy, no faith.
Tomorrow can be better….but you got to try to make it so, and not look for a designated blamee.
So if I find myself confronted by them on my way to where ever I may be headed, I’ll make an extra special point of wishing them a very Merry Christmas…..thats the way dad would wanted me to handle it.
    BTW
Before anyone starts offering their sympathies, I just have to say that my sympathies are for those that never met him, I knew him and I’m richer for it.

  38. “Happy, my @ss it’s the cult of consumerism practiced by the fanatical materialist herd buying a whole bunch of crap they will barley ever use.”
    So—whats your point??? LOL

  39. Maybe we should get together and rearange some of the protesters….why should we be incovienced by people that don’t know what work is??? this will come to big problems shortly….when the average people get pissed off..//

Sadly, the robust tort system of the U.S. is no where more overdeveloped than in CA. I don’t know if it is still true, but it used to be that CA had twice as many lawyers per capita as the average for U.S. states and the U.S. had, far and away, more lawyers per capita than any other country. Furthermore, the laws in CA are such that when a car hits a pedestrian, the driver of the car is pretty much automatically at fault. Someone can be driving along at 50 mph and a person can throw themselves in front of their car and the driver would be legally responsible. The person’s relatives would probably try to sue them for some kind of easy payday.

  41. “Through it all these Rabid Leftists are absolutely unapologetic, feeling no shame whatsoever. They have been so deeply brainwashed that they believe they’re on a righteous crusade to change the behaviour of the rest of us “to be more enlightened” like them.”
The modern Right: Vindictive, conceited, complaining souls.

  42. Who, in their right mind, would do such a thing?
Some quotes from Joseph Conrad’s The Secret Agent (http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/974) seem to be in order. The quotes are in ch. 2 in which the character Vladimir is instructing an anarchist, Mr. Verloc, as to the proper target for a bombing.

“A bomb outrage to have any influence on public opinion now must go beyond the intention of vengeance or terrorism. It must be purely destructive. It must be that, and only that, beyond the faintest suspicion of any other object. You anarchists should make it clear that you are perfectly determined to make a clean sweep of the whole social creation. But how to get that appallingly absurd notion into the heads of the middle classes so that there should be no mistake?

But what is one to say to an act of destructive ferocity so absurd as to be incomprehensible, inexplicable, almost unthinkable; in fact, mad? Madness alone is truly terrifying, inasmuch as you cannot placate it either by threats, persuasion, or bribes.

The attack must have all the shocking senselessness of gratuitous blasphemy.”

Therein, I believer lies the answer. Obviously, OWS is not setting off bombs or committing any large-scale property damage, but it is trying hard to get under people’s skin. Disrupting a Christmas tree lighting ceremony is not only irritating, it is unnerving precisely because it is so misdirected. The people who came to see the tree lighting aren’t there for some grand political reason. They aren’t “Wall Street Bankers”. They are mostly just ordinary people going about their ordinary lives. Disrupting their lives is an attempt to send the message that no one can ignore OWS. The cultural target is also part of the message. The people organizing OWS are making it clear that they are hostile to the culture at large, they are not simply targeting their complaints at a few well-defined issues. They are aiming at the whole society.
Hopefully, zombietime (http://www.zombietime.com/) will have his own pictures from the event. He usually does a good job of capturing the spirit of protest events in the SF Bay area.

  43. Sharks-Canucks game.. I watched a couple down there and it is amazing how many hardcore hockey fans are in the area. Skip out all the left crap that goes on down there and it can be pretty good.
