Jann Arden opens the 99th Grey Cup game singing “O Canada” as though Canada were a boyfriend who just dumped her.
As one might expect.
And with that, your 2011 Grey Cup thread is open.

The bombers are spotting the other team the first half , as usual . Bad idea , this game.
Who spels Jann like that?
The blue bombers will lose this game.
I normally enjoy watching the national anthems at major sporting events (Grey Cup, NHL playoffs, World Series, etc), but as soon as I saw Arden was singing it I changed the channel.
I concur Kate…that was sad.
Syncro – apparently not me. I had to go back and add an “n”.
All good fun…
funn…funn…
No Grey Cup should be played indoors. Next year’s in Toronto should be played at BMO Field on real grass in rain like we’re getting today (with luck it’ll be snow next year for the game).
Nickelbackk going to play that song they always play? is is just me or do they all sound the same?
Did you pick up the cheer for PMSH when they showed him on the big screen? Waiting now to see the reception Nickleback gets!
Who booked the “talent” for this game?
Memo to Jann: It’s not a country song, sweetie.
Disgusting that it isn’t on TV here even though I live six blocks from the BC border. I just got home and now I’m trying to get the live stream to work. TSN just crashes every time I try to load it (of course the commercial works fine so I’ve watched that Wendy’s commercial eight times) and ESPN3 is just loading and loading.
Oh, it started, now I get to listen to Nickelback’s boring halftime show. I agree, everything sounds the same. I picked up All The Right Reasons because I liked a couple songs on it but hadn’t really heard anything by them before. Seems like their newer stuff sounds exactly like ATRR. From what I’ve heard, ATRR sounds exactly like all the stuff that came before.
OTOH they aren’t playing some stupid “medley of hits” like the last few Super Bowl shows.
Best thing about the anthem: Not a single word of French!!….weren’t so lucky in player intros, however :>((
Probably the end of the CFL.
Why TF was there no French anthem?
Crappy game – no interest across the country.
As a long tome CFL supporter, this is a sad day for me. I’m not even watching
Hey it could be worse. We could be watching “swan hands” Margie Gillis doing the halftime show.
And CBC is shut out. And it’s been a solid game. So stop yer bitchin!
CBC,Canada’s station,is not broadcasting this game.
Why ,because they are a competitive station that must make decisions based on economics and what is best for Canada. It is the only way that a company that pockets 1 billion bucks a year can represent Canada on a level playing field.
CBC,no one does it better.
‘ as though Canada were a boyfriend who just dumped her.’
Someone should tell Jannn that the one-armed fella sneaking out is not really a “boyfriend”.He lied.
It was special to see the Tweedle brothers bringing out the Grey Cup. Oh Canada.
Jann Arden’s singing of the Canadian anthem was nothing compared to the warbling one must suffer through when the American anthem is sung most of the time. I’m always left wondering if I’m listening to and American Idol audition.
I am hearing from friends who were at Grey Cup week this year that it was a way better show than past Vancouver cups. Which are notoriously lame.
The worst was 1994, I was there and it was right after the Canucks had their first riots. So no parade, police harassing folks for no reason, access control at the parties so you couldn’t even go to the bathroom, and they wouldn’t present the Grey Cup to the winners (BC) on the field. At the end they announced: “The Grey Cup has been presented under the stands. Please leave the stadium immediately.” Real classy.
The phrase I usually use, Kate, is ‘funeral dirge’. I do admit that yours is more colorful. Fortunately, I didn’t start watching until about three minutes into the game so I missed Mizz Arden.
Our anthem sounds pretty good when it’s sung or played at a faster tempo, almost a march tempo.
It was good for the Lions to win. They were easily the best team in the CFL this season.
James was right.
Fortunately, like BJG, I missed the first couple of minutes.
I was not cheering for either team, but the best team won.
Go Leos!
It’s nice to be on top again. To start the season the way they did (0-5), and to come back and win it all is sweet.
And Jeez, missed Jannnnn…..too bad, so sad, didn’t even PVR it.
I guess being a rural guy I’m not so jaded that the half time show was great, the game was outstanding and I’m still horse from cheering for the Lions….but then what do I know.
The usual Vancouver standard for the Anthem would be:

OT but on Friday evening, we watched one of the most exciting and best played football games I’ve ever seen on TSN. In university football McMaster beat Laval with a field goal in overtime.
It had the makings of a classic comeback, but 3 TDs and a field goal in 5 minutes? unlikely. That Winnipeg got the 2 TDs in about 2 minutes kept me watching to the end.
I’m pretty sure Jann never gets dumped by boyfriends, if you know what I mean…
It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish. Well done Lions. Already looking forward to #100 next year.
nold, I agree with you on the Vanier. Wow!
I used to really love Jann Arden’s music; she can be very funny, in a self-and-family-deprecating way and she’s a talented songwriter. THEN I read her blog. It’s too whiny for me and the spill-your-guts style grates after awhile.
marco: “We could be watching ‘swan hands’ Margie Gillis doing the halftime show.”
LOL. When you put it THAT way….:)
