Those of us without fossil fuel phobia realize that there is no bus full of kids in imminent danger. That scary image is a figment of the True Believers imagination.
In reality, those kids are on the same, well-traveled route their mom and dad took to school. In fact, the air is clearer and the water cleaner than back in their parents’ day. The only thing cluttering up the view is a bunch of fugly windtowers. Most of them aren’t even working – oh, no – one of those towering monsters just sliced an diced a beautiful bald eagle…tragic.
The answer according to the warmists is that you stop the bus, unload the kids and then push the evil polluting bus off the cliff.
On second thought, since the kids will grow up to be evil polluters, send them off the cliff in the bus.
Revkin set up his metaphor to have the bus be humanity hurtling into the unknown with a likely disastrous result. The very first commenter turned it around to correctly portray the hurtling bus as the Climate Industry driving us off the curve into the abyss.
L.C. Bennett above has it right. Air and water, at least in North America, is cleaner now than it was 50 or 100 years ago. Not sure about the Niger Delta or the Dohai Sea.

Releasing CO2 is the least of the problems that humans are causing. CO2 does not compromise ‘a properly clean environment to live in’. There’s been a lot more CO2 in the atmosphere in the past and in those times plants and the animals that lived on the plants thrived. Every year in the summertime the river valleys around here get over 400ppm CO2, and nobody gets sick or dies, the vegetation is lush and the herbivores love it.
The dirty environment is caused by TOXIC pollution, habitat destruction, groundwater depletion, species elimination, overpopulation… All of these are far greater problems, and they’re all 100% caused by humans. No debate required.
So instead of trying to make everyone else conform to their beliefs, people should focus on mitigating the serious problems humans are causing, starting with their own lives and the neighborhood and local community around them. Positive change does not come from government regulations, accords, or laws; it comes from the ground up starting with us.

However, the warmists cling to this CO2 AGW scam tenachiously because it is their last great white hope to institute unelected, socialist WORLD GOVERNMENT with of course them incharge.
