  1. though I cant stand the entitlement crowd no matter which party they belong . Id like to know how to get a hold of Olivia Chow and EJack U. Laytons expense accounts.

  2. I hope Bevy Oda sues those responsible for this personal attack on her rights
A Hotel room is a home away from home and MUST accommodate all of Oda’s needs. If she smokes; those that booked a hotel that does not allow smoking.. MUST BE FIRED
OJ has been $15 (for Americans) for many years in England.. Wake up Folks
This issue is petty nonsense, or a serious act of discrimination…

  3. Harper should send Oda, Clement, and McKay to the back bench and bring competent MPs into cabinet.
Those three are an embarrassment to the Conservative party and an embarrassment to Canada.

  4. Phil, this is indeed a staff screwup. They should know the Minister’s requirements by now. The howls on this board about $15 orange juice is simply delusional. Hotels are hideously expensive.
And the twerp above who wants diplomats to pay for all their own living expenses is an even bigger twit. Osumashi, do you actually want Canada to look like a nation of paupers, you utter moron?
However, staff screwup or not, Oda has no choice but to pay any overruns. And she should know this after all her previous run-ins on these matters.

  5. What cgh said.
That being said, she has had one too many of these incidents. You would think that ministers today would have learned already that the pack mules for the opposition will be watching for stuff like this.
Only liberal planted bureaucrats can get away with sort of stuff.
Btw, $300 bucks get you an over-sized closet in most European cities.

  6. Can you spell “entitlement”? Let’s just assume for a second Oda is on vacation with her hubby. Is it likely she would stay in a $600/night room and hire a $1000/day limo to take her about? Not bloody likely. It is the fact she can stick someone else with the bill that she did so. The $16 orange juice is a red herring. If Harper doesn’t fire her ass it is because he agrees with this egregious behavior.

  7. “Bev Oda.
I still think she looks like Roy Orbison.”
Right now she looks more like OJ to me.

  8. I agree with gellon, Bev worked for the media and the media crowd feels entitled to their entitlements!
I smoke too, I would refuse to go to England, the anti smoking zealots would scare me off. Bev should have learned to use Skype.
Smokers do not have any rights at all in this country or in England. To suggest her staff is at fault is assuming that people who smoke should be accommodated in a civilized, polite manner. This is not 1979, Virgina. No freedom of choice, no manners, no exceptions that is the new world order of the day; England is in lock step. Sad. The Brits have gone a long way down and so has the rest of what used to be ‘the free world’.

  9. I took a few moments to e-mail the PM with a cc to both Oda and my own MP.
I emphasized the damage her behavior does to the principles of conservatism and her blatant disregard for taxpayers does even more to harm the Conservative Party.
I’ve asked the PM to remove her from Cabinet so that I can proudly express to my ‘liberal’ and progressive friends that we try to live what we preach.

  10. Personally? Any Conservative (Canadian or US) who thinks they have a right to any expensive hotel on my dime needs their head re-screwed.
You hold your goddamn conference at a Holiday Inn, just like anyone else with a strict budget.
    That is MY MONEY.

  11. No, this is part of the plan. We have to make people comfortable with our conservatism. We’ll cover the OJ now and then in about 15 years we’ll cut back on lavish other items. sshhh. Don’t tell anyone.

  12. In Bev Odas defence, what I find particularily irksome is that there is no mention of this smoking hotel, which is key in this decision to move her. The security transporting her in anything but a limo would be a nightmare; a London cab would be a logistical nightmare. Nowhere is there any mention (and this story has been on CTV and global television)that Bev Oda smokes. Why that omission? Does anyone really picture Bev Oda thumbing her way through the London yellow pages looking for the most expensive hotel? This is not a scandal. To see Bev Oda grovelling apologies on the parliamentary floor is pathetic. London is HIDEOUSLY expensive, but as for the 16 dollar OJ, wow. The 600 dollar hotel bill Im not surprised, but 16 dollars for an OJ sounds like a billing error. As I said London is ridiculously expensive.

  13. “Many hotels gouge for breakfast ala carte orders … especially room service.”
“$600 per night hotel rooms …. standard rates in many cities.”
Some comments just have a way of separating the Conservatives from conservatives.

  14. cgh, “Phil, this is indeed a staff screwup. They should know the Minister’s requirements by now. The howls on this board about $15 orange juice is simply delusional. Hotels are hideously expensive.”
Speaking of delusional…Bev Oda is a cabinet minister, not the Queen of England. When I travel, I take along fresh fruit. Anyone with sense knows that room service IS hideously expensive.

  15. It is not the orange juice, it is the limo issue. Anyone who has visited London knows that there are taxis always lined up outside the Savoy. And London cabs are argueably the best in the world.
    That’s the issue.

  16. An email:
    Prime Minister:
I am a member of your party, I support your government both with my vote and financially…most years I personally donate $800.00, and some years I have donated $1100.00.
You have to get rid of this odious Cabinet Minister, sooner rather than later. The longer she stays, the more this scandal will continue to fester and harm your government.
If you wish further indications, your staff should cruise the strongly-supportive conservative blogs (to quote from one headline on SmallDead Animals “Fire Her Ass”)…there is almost universal condemnation of Oda’s actions, especially since she is not a first time offender at being a pig in the trough.
Prime Minister, these people are your base…they are your strongest supporters. If you lose them and me, your government is going to be in trouble come next election.
    Fire. Her. Ass. Now!
