Her opening comment should have been:
“I have ALWAYS been proud of my country.”
Great speech!
It was a good speech. Dems would be wise to leave it alone but I suspect they wont be able to resist and they will have an “Yvette” moment (reference to 1980 referendum)
We will see if the line regarding his MR’s generosity and private charity not being spoken of by MR will be picked up. He HAS done significant works but clearly having some principles, i.e “Don;t pray out loud”, hurst him when facing those who lack a shame gene.
grok, I thought of that also. It would have been a nice touch.
Wow! Just, wow!
A refreshing difference compared to the wooky…
She smiles….
Ann Romney came across as warm and empathetic, no fake plasticity or glitz.
The real life experience references will resonate well with voters. In short, AR “gets it.”
Cheers

Nice teeth, but lacks the deltoid development and batleth calluses of the First Lady.
I’m betting on Moochelle the Klingon Princess by five points in the mud wrassling contest.
It may be my bias against establishment or it may be her delivery of the speech, I am under impression she is addressing kindergarten audience.
Xiat
So you were able to understand what she was saying?
Yes,ziat she was addressing a kindergarten audience, not the people in the hall, but the viewers that have forgotten what made America great. Its a message that you will NEVER hear from the Democrats.
God willing, she will be the new First Lady come January 2013.
Yeah I think the most pathetic part of the love in for the one was the swooning over moochelle and how “beautiful” she is and how “ripped” her flabby arms are. She’s got a look only Han Solo could appreciate.
I think she’d make a better president than Obama. Certainly better than Hillary. Heck, maybe better than her husband. Great speech!
Xiat >
What not “Occupy” enough for you?
“We want”….”We want”….”the bad men”…..”the bad men”…..”to”…….”to”………”give us their money”……..”give us or money” {applause}
“We want”…..”We want”……………..
No,phil, there is only one God,Allah, and we Muslims are rootin’for our guy and his lovely wife, Oprah,or whatever her name is.
theredsuit….
Not really, cheesy emotionally charged speech with false populist overtones…..she sounded like Obama. I can feel the love, but there is very little to understand.
btw..I am Canadian so I can afford to be an outside observer.
Didn’t see her use the telepropter once.
the current dufus can’t put two words together without one.
by George
Teleprompter was large screen at the back of the room. Not sure how much she referred to it since she delivered it in a natural manner
Xiat,
Whatever. You are missing the poitn of her speech which was to prick the lie balloon that MR is cold, uncaring and robotic and doesnt get along with women (sound familiar to anyone following Canadian politics)
Unless you are American, and unless you are female or are affected by those issues she wasnt talking to you.
As for the effectiveness of the speech we will see. I am sure it fired up GOP women. Will it make the Julia’s of the world think twice….doubt it. But in terms of softening MR’s image, sure. Always helps to have a validator, if his wife couldnt do it he would be in trouble.
End of the day, this was about making the Dem attacks and their media minions look a little foolish when they opine that he is some robotic extreme conservative. Unfortuantley for Obama when his wife ventures into policy she confirms the fears that he is left wing. Thats why she talks gardening, weight loss and exercise in public.
Watched this on C-pac last night, what a pleasant difference from the current office holder.
Stephen the other reason why Obama’s wife doesn’t talk about anything worthwhile is that she’s borderline illiterate.
Too bad there isn’t a First Ladies debate.
Mitch wouldn’t know what hit her…
Stephen…..so you are saying Romney campaign is going on the defensive from the start? Poor strategy when you are against the team that have already won and holds the power.
I wouldn’t compare Mitt Romney demeanour to Stephen Harper, because reducing everything there is in a political play to one person could be significant only on much smaller scale (tribe, municipality, etc.) . CPC success wouldn’t be possible without Reform Party break trough. In many other instances conservatives suffer from hiding in mediocrity of moderation or even mimicking the left. The choice of Romney is a primary example. Oh, I know – if only everyone would believe if the win, but then the assessment of reality is lost.
“…she sounded like Obama…”
—said Xiat
she sounded like Obama as much as Metallica sounds like the Beatles
‘…I wouldn’t compare Mitt Romney demeanour to Stephen Harper, because reducing everything there is in a political play to one person could be significant only on much smaller scale (tribe, municipality, etc.)…’
but you just said she sounded like Obama, that is reducing it to one person
well leftists aren’t very rational so I am not surprised within minutes you are contradicting yourself
phil certainly seems to have a phixation with underwear, seems constantly enthralled with the idea that Romney actually wears some.
Probably stems from that unfortunate incident in high school, when phil opened his locker and the eight packages of bonus-capacity Depends tumbled out into the hallway just as girls’ gym class was letting out.

NO! the Teleprompter/s are the small transparent (transparent from camera Side)Flat screens (~18″X 24″) on simple stands in front of the dais/podium. They look directly into the teleprompter, TEXT on thier side of the prompter, the effect is that they appear to be looking into the Camera lens
In my day 80/90s the Teleprompter was a big box that mounted on front & part of the Camera lens. It was a Monitor/mirror assembly.
BTW She is a class act!
Poor strategy when you are against the team that have already won and holds the power.

Obama(the stealth candidate last time) now has a record that he doesn’t dare run on* so he and his minions are attacking Romney’s “like-ability”.
All Obama has left to offer is his own like-ability.
Ann Romney(who isn’t a politician) isn’t being defencive, she is promoting Mitt’s like-ability.
*you’d think Obama would be talking non-stop about his legacy achievement: Obamacare
Xiat, political parties always find it easier to do nothing than to do something. What moves them along is fear that they will lose the next vote. Legitimate ones anyway, Liberals seem to be moved by fear that the next brown bag full of money will be late.
Calling up your MP (and any other CPC factotum you can get a hold of in person) and letting them know what you want… that’s effective.
The Conservative vision for Canada this century is the empowered individual. The individual acting harmoniously with everyone else in society. Getting tasks done, getting ahead, prospering as individuals, as families, and the nation prospering as a whole.
Anything that’s getting in the way of that, like the CBC clearly does, we should all be screaming like hell about it. “Get this crap out of my way!” is what they need to be hearing pretty much every day.
Bathe them in the fire of your discontent, and they’ll move to get away from it. Otherwise they’ll sit there like clods in the furrow.
upon re-reading, I should note that the Conservative vision is not necessarily synonymous with the -CPC- vision, hence the bathing them in discontent part when required.
She is no Hillary, and no Michelle, in the sense that she has humility.
I don’t think I have seen that quality from anyone; high or low, in the Obama administration.
She seems a genuinely happy, and warm person, which both Michelle and Hillary definitely keep well hidden, to whatever degree they possess those qualities.
@xiat – here, here. Let’s give the wife of the nominee a prime spot at this “convention” so she can wax on about her love for him, awwww. The whole “first spouse” thing is just odious and ludicrous.
And then, GOP doesn’t let the only real small-gov’t conservative candidate in the race speak in his own words.
The GOP is only slightly less of a joke than the Dems.
Peter Jay – The GOP is only slightly less of a joke than the Dems.
Wrong comparison: the Democrats intend to be you jailer. The Republicans are 180 degrees in the opposite direction.
You Paulists – if that’s what you truly are – should really should come clean and explain the one issue that so enrages you that you will never vote for a non-Paul Republican, as it definitely is not about the size and scope of government and deficit spending; Romney is running on ending deficit spending, as well as job growth.
So, what is the dealbreaker? Is it his refusal to back marijuana decriminalization? or Gay ” rights “? What is it? Or are you actually a lefty, who pretends to back Paul because you know that diverting votes to his is your only hope for another 4 years of Obama?
Mitt Romney is a lucky man.
A lovely, strong woman. She reminded me very much of my mother who raised a tribe of five children whilst Dad was away serving in the RCN.
Phantom, I think she would win a wrassling match with MO. She has proven her toughness.
am I the only who thinks she looks a little like Sarah Palin and even her voice is a little like Palin’s?
She could be Palin’s blonde sister
I know , I know, silly stuff
shame on me…
wnmc, mass counts for a lot in mud wrasslin’. Moooochelle’s got at least 20 pounds on her.
A debate would be different. Ann Romney in a battle of wits with an unarmed woman.
Meanwhile, over at All Racist, All Bigotry TV, also known as MSNBC, they whitewash the RNC convention to support their narrative.
http://redalertpolitics.com/2012/08/28/msnbc-cuts-every-speech-made-by-a-minority-from-rnc-speech-coverage
Now that is a racist dog whistle.
