  1. At Daily Caller, some excerpts from Mark Steyn’s appearance last night on the Hugh Hewitt show:

I thought that thing last night with the president saying he had ‘a tough day’ and comparing the dead Americans in Libya to campaign supporters, which he did — I thought was one of the most disgraceful, inept and embarrassing performances by a head of state or government that I have ever seen. Every American should be ashamed of their president.”

    Later,

“Why can’t you — you’re spending $4 trillion a year, and you’ve got these 12-year-old speechwriters you’re so proud of, and you’re the king of the prompter, why couldn’t you on Air Force One, you’re the only head of state in any major country who has a plane to fly him around his own country, and a 40-car motorcade — while you were on the stupid plane, why can’t you actually take the trouble to learn some words that would mean something and are appropriate to the occasion?”

  2. Rolling Stone interviewer tries over and over again to get the answer he wants out of Bob Dylan: Tell Us You Love Obama, Bob! Please!
    Excerpt:

On Gilmore’s fourth attempt, Dylan just resorts to: “Do you want me to repeat what I just said, word for word? What are you talking about? People loved the guy when he was elected. So what are we talking about? People changing their minds?”

When the persistent interviewer finally asks him directly what he thinks of Obama,

“He loves music. He’s personable. He dresses good. What the **** do you want me to say?

  3. Kirsten Powers, a democrat pundit for Fox News is ripping on the lamestream media and their Obama love tonight on Hanity. Very interesting… She’s usually an Obama girl. I had thought she was a part of his campaign.

  4. “Snide high-fiving”: William A. Jacobson of Legal Insurrection: Pro-Obama Media so far beyond bad it’s almost indescribable.
    Short excerpt:

“The U.S. media should be all over the failure to protect our diplomats in the Middle East on September 11 of all days. Yet all we received was collusion at Romney’s press conference and snide high-fiving at how successful they were at keeping the focus off of Obama’s failures…”

  6. Thursday, Sep. 13, Toronto Sun. Lorrie Goldstein discusses Griftopia by Matt Taibbi.
    http://www.torontosun.com/2012/09/12/us-nonjailable-class
LG: [Taibbi’s view is that] “The jailable class consists of common criminals like street thieves, while the nonjailable are the high-class thieves of Wall Street, who never go to prison for their crimes.”
I’m not convinced. Plenty of judges are lenient towards common criminals, while plenty of “white collar criminals” did or are doing jail time. Think Enron, Michael Milken, etc.
LG quotes Taibbi: “‘The Republicans (are) going with this goofy story … that the financial crisis was caused by lazy poor people living in too much house … a lot of whining about the Community Reinvestment Act of 1977 and Fannie and Freddie, with social engineering being the dog-whistle code words describing government aid to minorities …'”
This is not a “goofy story”, it’s an accurate description of what happened (with the exception of “lazy”). And we know that former Senator Obama was in the thick of it.
LG: “While Taibbi writes from a left-wing perspective … he never pulls his punches when it comes to Obama and the Democrats.”
Yes, he writes from a lunatic fringe leftist perspective, and the preceding quote is proof enough. If anything, he’d like the Democrats to lurch even further into Marxism.
I usually read Lorrie Goldstein’s columns, particularly those on the environment, in which he knowledgeably skewers AGW. But while he’s no socialist (so far as I know), he sometimes gives too much credence to “the other side”, like Occupy last year or Taibbi now. The leftists may occasionally make good points, but they interpret them wrongly and in most cases want to push us in the wrong direction.

I swear those were the funniest customer reviews I have ever read in my life. Thanks.

  8. LAS, 2:24a.m. — Your comment may be premature.
I’m not sure what’s going on over at the National Post: they’ve usually been much more reliable than the Obama cheerleading squad over at the Toronto Star, at least in the past. In addition to the poll you mention, which is not in the Real Clear Politics rolling average (which usually means methodological problems), have a look at this tater:
    http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/09/14/romney-heckled-as-he-attempts-to-soften-stance-on-libya-response/
Nice headline, picking up on one five-word heckle from one person — one person after the spectacle of the media 500 club, or whatever it’s called, shilling for Obama for two days? Romney’s comments as quoted do not appear to me to a softening of his position on the chaos in Obama’s ME policy — more a statement of condolence.
In addition to that, Rasmussen 3-day track has moved eight points in Romney’s favour in the last four days, while Gallup’s 7-day track has moved moved two points to Romney in the past two days (the latter would still have, in theory, five days worth of “convention bounce” in it in).
    Also, have a look at:
    http://www.nationaljournal.com//columns/cook-report/the-cook-report-obama-s-a-good-bet-to-win-20120913?print=true
    and compare that to:
    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2012/09/14/why_romney_will_win_115452.html
Notice the difference? The Charlie Cook piece has the same sort of tone as the National Post article I indicated above: “Oh well, everybody knows that Obama has the advantage…” Then he says that the race is tight and Romney could still win, at which point he moves on to Congress. That’s it? That’s your rationale?
Dick Morris’s article eschews the halo-effect love-in nonsense in favour of some, you know, background and analysis based on his knowledge and experience with the subject of polling analysis. Not quite the same story, is it?
    Finally, have a look at:
http://dailycaller.com/2012/08/23/university-of-colorado-prediction-model-points-to-big-romney-win/. I do note that the authors are going to be updating their model shortly.
I would concede you one point, however — Karl Rove noted in his SuperPac presentation last week that, based on his research, ad hominen attacks against Obama are not persuasive to voters available to the GOP. I think that Romney needs to be careful on this point — just stick to the facts and the economy, and be clear on a reasonable package of health care reforms.

  9. From Breitbart: “Ambassador Chris Stevens did not have a Marine detail in Benghazi, Libya. But White House Senior Advisor and Obama confidante Valerie Jarrett has a full Secret Service detail on vacation in Martha’s Vineyard, according to Democratic pollster Pat Caddell. That’s the pathetic foreign policy of the Obama administration, says Caddell today in an exclusive interview with Breitbart News. ‘Jarrett seems to have a 24 hour, around the clock detail, with five or six agents full time,’ Caddell explains.”
Someday we’ll learn about Jarrett’s real role in the WH.

  12. Have fun with opinion surveys! It’s free and you might help improve the world.
I have been a member of the Angus & Reid Forum (you can too, just register online). They ask me to fill a survey about twice a week. They are usually rather boring but the latest, called PQ_Media_Screener_Sept2012, is great. It asks me what media I watch. But the best part is at the end, where they ask me if I agree with 12 statements about the environment. A few examples:
“If we keep living the way we are, the world will be ruined.”
“I think people who do not recycle at home should be fined”
“We should do more to protect the environment even if it means higher taxes”
It was lots of fun to fill this survey. Go have a look! https://www.angusreidforum.com/

  13. “Solar Eclipsed?”
“The global solar power industry is in crisis. The industry blames widespread national subsidy cuts and over productivity; China, in particular, being widely vilified on the second count. However, the real cause of the solar industry’s malaise runs deeper, rooted, as it is, in the inescapable fact that, in terms of current technology, commercial scale solar energy remains a non-viable proposition.
Wherever you look the solar power industry is mired in financial problems, all of which lead back to the (life support) of public subsidy, the impact of market-skewing regulations (creating the appearance of commercial viability) and, ultimately, protectionist trade wars (US and Europe v China). In economic good-times, three natural consequences of government-sponsored global industries that can be obfuscated by a network of feed-in tariffs, levies and other ‘green’ taxes to pay for them. But in leaner economic climes, the real cost of ‘free’ energy becomes all too clear.
Germany’s solar industry has led the way in Europe. Until recently the country was the world leader in manufacturing solar cells. Half of the world’s total solar power generating capacity is installed in Germany. But,…”

Yeah the NP is getting real lazy. They’re just reposting the slop that gets put out by other media. Maybe they are always that way.
Romney is still doing lousy. He has no talent at speaking to the people and nothing to say to them. He is the GOP: pathetic. Both are perfect for the conservative movement.
