Star power

I’m not a fan of star endorsements, I don’t think they have any more knowledge about the public good than an elementary school student body.
Having said that, if I had to choose based on celebrity endorsements, I’d take Jack Nicklaus and Mike Rowe over Jay-Z and Beyonce every day. (I’m not even sure who Jay-Z is.)
I can’t remember, which campaign is isolated from the middle-class again?

  1. Star endorsements are much much worse than man-on-the-street endorsements because almost all celebrities are emotionally weird and desperately insecure situational narcissists who live completely isolated from reality. Like Caligula with a lot more recreational drugs.
Matt Damon has a new movie coming out about environmentalists vs. oil companies. Guess who the bad guys are.

  2. Considering the number of women(myself included) who love Mike Rowe…yeah Romney just did something smart. I just wish I could vote in US elections.

  3. “who Jay-Z is”
I kept calling him Jay Zed during my my ongoing obozo complaints. Fortunately nobody I know thought that was odd. Or what i was ranting about.

  4. Ditto to Black Mamba’s comment.
The NDP has agitated for allowing people to vote at a very young age,as I suppose they realise that their constituency is made up of emotionally immature people, regardless of age.
I remember Avril Lavigne endorsing Paul Martin, which confirmed my thoughts on that candidate.

  5. Mike Rowe is not, strictly speaking, a “celebrity” endorsement. Since in addition to being able to pose for a camera he can also put up drywall, paint a house, shoe a horse, hang a door, shovel sh1t from one place to another… etc.
Jay-Z? Not so much. True celebrity, that one.

  6. Wait a minute… you actually don’t know who Jay-Z is?
Do you know who Justin Bieber is? Jay-Z is a much bigger pop star …

  7. Steve, no.
I do know who Bieber is, he’s that youtube kid from Canada who explained that the Americans were fools for not having health care like Canada…cause, you know, it was ‘free’.
    Prosecution rests.

  8. Jay-Z is a billionaire, who bought Beyonce a $26M private island as a birthday gift one year, you know, they’re the little people.

  9. Clint and Jack share something in common: they became super-stars (well beyond Norman Rockwell portraits of America) in the 1970s — at the point of its previous greatest weakness.
My dad has been a great golfer in his time and thought the world of Ben Hogan, but has never said much about Arnold or Jack. Arnold and Jack brought the game fame, status and money — Jack did more than anyone to pave the way for Tiger Woods, who then brought it to great heights — and then lost it all. Much like Obama, in many ways.
I have only come to know Clint in the last twenty years or so (I was too young to watch his movies in the days of Dirty Harry), but I clearly remember watching live the 9-iron shot from behind the tree that gave Jack the victory at the PGA Championship at Firestone (Dayton, Ohio if memory serves) in 1975. Jack has always been my sports hero, and for him to endorse Mitt says a great deal about both of them, and about this election.
Here’s something about Jack Nicklaus’s career: He built that.

  10. But…but…just heard that ditz Brooke Baldwin on cnn discussing Mitt’s ‘using’ Jack as star-power,and that ‘somehow it didn’t send the right msg to the middle class, using a super-rich golf celebrity!’ Yeah,my jaw hit the floor too. Not one word about Beyonce, the View, the super-Hollywood elite fundraisers for the One…can you scream hypocrite as you tear your eyes out??

  11. Sammy
I don’t know who Brooke Baldwin is either, but from what you said I guess she’s ditzy too.

  12. Sammy, the worst offenders are the various RHINO terrorists like David Brooks and Peggy Noonan. As for the mindless trolls CNN has read the news now what can you say? You gotta scrape the barrel pretty hard to get someone to debase themselves by appearing on that network.

  13. Brooke Baldwin actually hosts a 2hr show in aft on cnn..happened to have the misfortune to hear it on sat.radio while driving home from work. She used to be the ‘sidekick’ for another loser that was so bad cnn had to let him go (Rick Sanchez)..she is just a drooling, slobbering Obama-lover,painful to watch.

  14. Alice Cooper said it best (paraphrasing here) when he declared celebrities to be idiots when it comes to political matters.
That being said… MIKE ROWE! He is The Awesome.

  15. Sammy, Ghost of Ed, james — No worries. We’re just about there: all we need now is Toby Keith, and then we’re all set.
    There’s another old joke:
A guy with a beard goes up to the ball and says, “I think I can carry the water with a seven iron.”
One golf partner says: “Who does he think he is? Jesus Christ?”
Another golf partner says, “He is Jesus Christ. But he thinks he’s Jack Nicklaus.”

  16. Newsbusters has picked up the Brooke Baldwin stupidity!BTW,you really need to see the new pic of Shrillary up at Drudge. She finally admits the attack in Libya WAS terrorism.

  17. There is a whole lot wrong with the theme of this thread.
Not knowing who Jay-Z is does not put you in the main stream. In fact, it means you’re waaaaayyyyy out in left field relative to the main stream consciousness. Bill O’Reilly much?
For the record, Jay-Z holds a the title ‘Most #1 Albums’ by a solo artist out doing Elvis, and tied with the Beetles for “Most Overall #1 Albums’ which he will undoubtedly break.
interestingly enough, Jay -Z just had his first Billboard #1 song on his latest solo album. It’s a testament to the quality of his albums as a whole, making him unique in all genres of music today where songs are purchased on-line individually.

Jay-Z is no doubt the most influential music artist(and best) of the last 20 years.
    Mamba
ooooohhhh yeah! Best modern day Hip Hop Song Evah.
If you haven’t checked-out “I Can’t Stop” on the Jay-Z/Kanye album, please do: “Black cars, black cards, black on black black broads, whole lot’a money in a black bag, black strap you know what that’s for”
That said, I couldn’t care less what Jigga or Jack thinks about these issues.

  18. Jay Z and his wife Beyonce are very wealthy indeed. Definitely 1%ers. Jay Z is not just a talented singer/writer but also apparently an astute businessman and capitalist with multiple ventures. Accordingly, one might expect him to be voting Republican …. at least according to the current reputation of the Republican party as the party of the rich capitalists. However, Jay Z is very much into “black” ghetto culture. That’s where his base lies. As such, it is only reasonable that, as an astute businessman, he play to his base by endorsing a black man. Yeah, it’s racist. So it goes.

  19. Dear Eli:
you can vote in the USA elections. Just find a state in which no voter ID is allowed, as per the Oblama Justice department.
