The thing about pus, it never gets better. And it shows….
Journalism… yep! how low can you go? Go Carleton! Go Ryerson Polytech!
Just a question – a serious question. Are the ‘journalists’ today forced by their employers to dumb things down and report a certain political slant? Or are they really that way? If a truly talented ‘news reporter’ (and they must exist) were actually allowed to say/write what they believe, do we really think the left side of the equation would be so prevalent? Would the article/broadcast be so base?
Pretty much everyone is imprisoned in their own ideology, or those who have power over the expression thereof.
Free expression doesn’t exist, even in supposedly free countries. You can think it, but don’t do anything about it or you will be taken down.
Just the way it is…it’s the herd mentality, mostly engendered by city people who are used to having their life structured by someone else.
That, and the age of specialization encourages people to leave anything outside their own sphere to someone else.
They’re ‘specialists’, they should know…
My pick would be political science, WTF, is that? Does anyone know a political scientist?
The media, its not the journalists alone the MSM are naked propaganda organizations.
Frank Zappa’s, I Am The Slime. is what CBC & CTV bring to my mind.
We really need to find out who owns the media because they seem to take a perverse joy in mocking and demeaning any thing of value our society has.
On the other hand, if we keep the net free, then these bastions of bias can fade away like the irrelevant group think they have become.
But I don’t want journalism majors serving my coffee, I like it fresh, hot and on time.
Brian, you pose an excellent question. I think that John Stossel would be an excellent test case to examine. He’s regarded by most everyone as a really smart guy. Libertarian to the core.
While at ABC News I think he got to do much of what he wanted to but I’ll never forget after he left for Fox Business News, that he described himself as having a lot more freedom in the new place.
Perhaps being a journalist today is somewhat akin to being a conservative in the Arts Faculty of most any college/university in North America. Technically you are allowed to express your views but if you do there’s a good chance you’ll be mocked & shunned by your fellow students. So, in both cases, the path of least resistance is to just put on your “pod face” and go along to get along.
The Captain looks like he’s in some Kafkaesque 1920s jail interrogation.
