  2. In Feb 2011 I made a road trip from Saskatoon down to Tuscon and San Diego. At the east gate to the Grand Canyon, there was an old, long grey haired Park Ranger taking admissions. He saw my Saskatchewan Veteran’s plate and started talking about how, about two months after he came home from Vietnam, feeling confused and anxious, he went on a long road trip, determined to see as much of North America as he could. He said that he remembered going to a club in Saskatoon and seeing a band called “Humphrey’s Dumptrucks” (I corrected him). To him, he said, after hearing them, he felt he was really home from Asia. Just thought I’d mention this.

  8. Are you serious? Obama precipitated this horror in so many ways,not the least of which was refusing to leave a substantial force in Iraq. The phoney “red-line” in Syria only emboldened these rabid dogs, the de-facto surrender of the Crimea and indifference on east Ukraine serves to whip the froth…

  9. Obama has dropped two bombs so far and has done as much damage as a one infantry patrol could have done. ISIS is still advancing in the area.

    The corruption may involve such activities as construction projects in a state which can include highway building and renovation projects. Also, police projects are named as a bad of crime and corruption when it comes to bribery. The results may surprise people, as not all of the corruption in some states makes the headlines. Sometimes, a well-known figure is caught for being on-the-take and headlines ensue. Other times, the person isn’t as well-known or not well-known at all when they are arrested and eventually convicted of such crimes. The data goes beyond the headlines and has accumulated all that can be found on such recorded nasty dealings.

  15. Donors claim in court that anti-whaling activist Paul Watson and his Sea Shepherd Conservation Society took donations from them under false pretenses, by intentionally sinking the ship they gave to the cause and then blaming Japanese whalers, to solicit more donations.
    They say Watson ordered the Sea Shepherd crew to sink the ship on Jan. 6, 2010 after a 14-foot portion of its hull broke off in a collision with a Japanese whaling ship near Antarctica.
    “The Ady Gil, however, was not lost, and could have been readily and economically transported to port and repaired, had it not been scuttled. Because of the unique structure and configuration, the loss of a portion of the boat was not fatal to the Ady Gil. Watson, the founder, president, and functional leader of Sea Shepherd, however, decided that the increased awareness of, and support for, Sea Shepherd that might result from the collision could be taken to an even higher level if the collision did not just damage the Ady Gil, but rather sent it to the bottom of the South Pacific Ocean,” the complaint states.
    The plaintiffs claim Watson and his crew spent 30 hours gutting the Ady Gil of $100,000 to $150,000 worth of equipment, then “opened the sea cocks and hatches so she would flood.”
    “Then, they connected tow lines for a preconceived ‘pretend tow,’ and towed her for six hours while she progressively got lower and lower in the water, until eventually the tow rope broke. All GPS or other tracking devices were removed, and the Ady Gil was then abandoned so that no one could find her and see that she had been sunk intentionally,” according to the complaint.

    How about this lead paragraph. “BAGHDAD (AP) — Hundreds of women from the Yazidi religious minority have been taken captive by Sunni militants with “vicious plans,” an Iraqi official said Friday, further underscoring the dire plight of Iraq’s minorities at the hands of the Islamic State group.” Vicious plans is the 21st century journalistic equivalent of the Victorian “a fate worse than death”.
    This eyewitness account is pretty close to the best reportage, however. “On board Iraqi army helicopter delivering aid to the trapped Yazidis, Jonathan Krohn sees a hellish sight”.
