36 Replies to “The Case for Trump”

  1. Mr. Thiel’s speech is actually much more impressive when read in print than when heard by him speaking it. He is no doubt a brilliant man but has zero ‘stage presence’ or gift for public speaking. This video provides a great example that “communication” / “persuasion” is a LOT more than what you say, it’s also how you say it. A transcript of a Trump speech reads like gibberish but his delivery on stage is energizing to audiences.
Thiel’s speech reminds me of most Stephen Harper speeches …they make good sense in policy terms AND lull me toward sleep.

  2. Smirkers vrs Workers
Sigh, it’s not about Trump, it’s about preserving Middle America and its ethic. People who care about the American Bill of Rights,  American sovereignty, energy independence, economic growth, and a vibrant working Middle class will vote Trump.  Those who are satisfied with a stagnant economy, that serves special interests, and  long to live in a transnational flophouse, you know a Western Hemisphere zone that extends from Chile to the Arctic, they’ve got Hillary. Pretty simple, eh? Is that your dream, me neither.
That said, it’s hard to imagine the Workers prevailing over the Smirkers, aka the Takers and the Skimmers, those who “game the system” to feather their own nests and for their own self aggrandizement.

  3. Exasperated;
The only reason the ‘Takers’ have been as successful as they have been is their access to the government check book. The debt charged to date is stunning. My experience in politics has always shown when people fear for their livelihoods they usually opt for the safer more conservative option.
There is very little philosophical thought by most people whether conservative or progressive. Any in depth thought of economics not only does not exist by the masses. Last weeks numbers in the USA showed an increased spending by families and less saving. This on the eve of an election that could easily throw the USA into civil turmoil.

  4. Their is wrong on a lot of issues but he is correct about the reasons for trump’s support.

  5. Sick to death of yet another video, of yet another guy, kow towing to the Democrat talking points. “oh none of us like Trump’s comments about women” please keep inviting me to your parties. Thanks for posting more propaganda in support of the enemies of freedom. Everyone who parrots a Dem talking point, at any time, for any reason, is part of the problem.

  6. So victor Davis Hansen is part of the problem? Or Larry Arnn? Or Dennis prager? Or mark levin? Or Rush Limbaugh? Or Dennis Miller?
Because they all object to DTs behaviour Vis a vis women. Sometimes a talking point is bipartisan.

  7. Well you know how it is; one mustn’t stray too far off the reservation or an original thought might pop into your head and that would never do.
If the students who graduated from some ivy-league college with their BA in women’s studies find themselves crushed by debt, well maybe they should have purchased something else with the money and don’t get me started on health care. If you think health care is expensive now, wait until everyone receives it for free.

  8. Kevin … I agree but with a slightly different twist. I completely agree with Thiel in saying that Trump has said some indefensible things. Surely, nobody is going to “defend” arrogant men who say they are so rich, or so good looking, or so physically endowed, that they can walk up to any woman – and grab her by the nasty bits and get away with it. That’s assault brotha ! But where I totally agree with you … is how the left (and GOPe) feign outrage at hearing such things. Because the speaking of such things, are not assault, and anyone with a functioning brain, know that such things are simply said as a methaphor … or ironically … or as false bravado. The hearing of such things doesn’t require censorship. The hearing of such things requires a functional filter … a functional brain that is able to put such things in their place. Surely, the left is able to properly categorize rap singers calling each other ni&&has and bragging about grabbing bit€hes azzes as silly bravado. And the left also seems able to “interpret” the same rap singers call for cappin some pigs in the street as NOT really calling for the murder of pOleece in the street. Hell ! Barrack and Mooschelle even invite them to perform such noteworthy tunes in the White House.
Davers6 – I noticed that the ONE moment in Mr Thiel’s monotone speech where he sounded passionate, was in talking about how the Advocate (gay) magazine said that Thiel was … “not a true gay man”. Thiel sharpened his tone and said that, according to The Advocate … “conformity = diversity”. Speaking as a “normal” citizen, who cannot claim membership in any “victim” group … I say BRAVO.

  9. You listened to the whole thing?
If not you missed his point.
Maybe you should stick with Slate.

  10. Good speech. Tepid applause shows he is right. Not everyone is a practiced orator (with teleprompter) like current POTUS. I found his low key, almost whispered delivery made me listen harder.

  11. Trump is an unethical slime bag who regularly screws people and companies that work for him. He is a greedy SOB who never donates to charity and uses his bogus foundation to pay off elected officials.
It also appears that his “legal” tactics for avoiding income tax were highly unethical and were ultimately outlawed by congress.
This is all in addition to his willingness to commit sexual assault and the threaten to sue any women who dares to make his crimes public.
It is mystery why anyone would support this yahoo. Not likely Hillary is not enough of a justification to ignore the fact that Trump is a failure as a human being.

  12. Are you guys bitching about this address so in love with your own “wisdom” that you are failing to hear?
This guy is an ICON of the prog-left. He is a gay tech billionaire. He is endorsing Trump and delivering a message to his fellow travelers and the media who lionize them. He isn’t speaking to you, or the “right”. He is addressing his constituency. He is appealing to those who support Hillary out of loyalty to a lost ideal. I think he’s saying vote Trump, or kiss your ass goodbye.

  13. It’s really like listening to Lieutenant Commander Data, (Brent Spiner).
I don’t think the wealthy are in denial as much as they are in economic hunker down mode while being very careful to be politically correct. If Hillary wins, money will roll out of this country very quickly. The rich know they will get soaked if they are not well established lefties. The only ones in denial are the 1/10th of 1% who, unfortunately, control the narrative.
The most important thing about Trump to understand is that he is risking everything for his country in an epic battle of legitimate wealth vs. criminal wealth.

  14. Tim
Where do you get information he doesn’t donate to charity? Since 1987 there is a clear record of him donating at least $ 5.5 million. Not enough? Who knows. Nothing? Wrong!
Where do you get your information on avoiding income tax? The information I read said it was because of a $ billion loss some years ago. I’m sure every country in the world allows deduction of past losses from income. Canada does. So would the Clinton thieves not take available common tax deductions?
Sexual assault? It is entirely too convenient that every week leading up to the election another woman came forward from 10 or 20 years ago with what seems to me like a tall tale. Some of these stories may have some substance but I don’t care. The most difficult interaction a man will have is with the female species and misunderstandings occur. He did not commit rape like Bill Clinton supported by his enabler Hillary.

  15. You are correct … Thiel IS speaking to me. I live in the belly of the beast. No, I am not IN high tech here in the SF Bay Area … but I work for them. And I am one of the ones that keeps a low profile, and keeps their mouth shut. And, IF … I were independently wealthy and didn’t have to worry about getting blackballed throughout the community and LOSE all my work and all my reputation … I would speak out. I would be fully VISIBLE. But my FIRST responsibility is to my FAMILY. I cannot place our RENT money or FOOD money in jeopardy. In a SANE country, and community … I wouldn’t have to law low. In the America I was BORN into … I wouldn’t have to lay low. But here, and now … I have to lay low. I have to keep my mouth shut, and nod my head slowly when my current client went off on a tirade about what a doucheee” bag Trump is … ALL I’ve got is my VOTE. and every other member of my immediate families vote (I raised my Millenials well).
Having said all that about VOTING and whatnot … I live in Barbara Boxer, Dianne Feinstein land. My VOTE is just about as warm and WORTHLESS as a good pee in the ocean.

  16. Most of Trump’s donations went to his own foundation which does not do much in terms of real charity.
The dishonesty from Trump’s taxes comes from how he structured his companies so he could declare the losses on personal income. They strategies he used to restructure his companies to create a fictitious paper loss were unethical at the time and now are illegal.
Trump is caught on tape bragging about how he gets away with sexual assault and you are surprised that some women come forward and talk about how he assaulted them? For the most part these women reported their experiences to friends and family at the time and are extremely credible. Given the fact that Trump has promised to use his wealth to bully these women in the legal system should explain why they would have been hesitant to come forward before.
Frankly, the people who think that these allegations are fake need to get their head examined. They are completely consistent with the vile piece of human trash that Trump is and should surprise no one.

  17. In the Clinton’s current tax returns, they made ONE donation to charity … and it ALL went to the Clinton Foundation. Think about that. They made (If I recall correctly) a $3 million dollar “donation” to the Clinton Foundation. For that … they were able to write-off $3million dollars against their sizeable income earned … from doing what? God knows … I have no idea. So they essentially, moved $3million from one of their bank accounts to another bank account. Brilliant !
The only thing that really pisses me off … is that I haven’t yet opened the Kenji Foundation. I so desperately want to become an “elite”
However, there is ONE Clinton TAX DODGE that I use prolifically. Writing-off my used underwear at $ 20.00 per. Yes, ever since I learned during Bill Clintons White House daze that he was writing-off the charitable donation value of his used skivvies … I have been following suit. Now, I may actually wear my underwear for more than just one nights liaison with an Intern … and … I may have a diet that causes more “wear” to my underwear than Bill Clinton. But nevertheless, since the IRS can never know the true condition of my crotch (can they ?) I have been writing off multiple pair of well-USED underwear (all fully documented) on every tax return ever since. I trust the Salvation Army sorts through said underwear, and discards any … uh … discolored … pair and never places them on sale. THAT wouldn’t be too charitable of me.

  18. ‘Trump is an unethical slime bag….vile piece of human trash….’
What a coincidence! Those are the same words that were used on Romney, McCain, Bush, Thomas…..

  19. I was listening to a Christian radio show online last night and heard for the first time the “fireman’s prophecy”, then went on youtube to hear more of it. In 2011, this Floridian was given a prophecy about Trump. Regardless of whether or not you believe in the prophetic word, what he says is amazing. As he says, he isn’t the only one who has been given a word from God.
Today I was listening to a black minister tell about the meetings Trump has been having with evangelical ministers over the past few years. Trump recognized that if he was going to run, he needed prayer; that he needed God’s help. He still meets daily or certainly almost daily with ministers who pray with him.
This gay billionaire is speaking from his own experience, and is perfectly free to express how he feels about Trump. He was nuts, he did stay stupid and even unforgivable things; ergo, he is not a perfect man. But, he is the only one who can get the U.S. out of the mess left by the Bushes, Clintons, Obama. Anyone with a name who comes on board is more than welcome, I would think.
The fact that he was given only lukewarm polite applause from the press reveals, yet again, that they’re in Clinton’s camp.
This campaign has struck a nerve around the world and unless he wins, we’ll never know what could have been.
For anyone interested, this is the link to the Florida Fireman’s Prophecy.

  20. The situation you find yourself has a relatively recent precedent…it was called “The Cultural Revolution”…it worked there for a while, but the ideas Deng championed eventually won out.

  21. “They are completely consistent with the vile piece of human trash that Trump is and should surprise no one”.
You comments are consistent with the cowards who are paid to slander. How much are your teeth worth? At some point someone will reach out and help you take your Meds…Mental illness only gets worse if you delay treatment.

  22. Hey kids. It’s the Smirkers (of the Uni-Party) vrs the Workers, aka the Trumpkins (and the Bernie Bros). Stop whining, pick a side and vote.

  23. Well, that was very well argued. I don’t agree with everything he said but he certainly “gets it”. Power to him.

  24. …Trump is caught on tape bragging about how he gets away with sexual assault…
when the woman is consenting it is not sexual assault.
most women will have sex with rich and famous men, they are more than consenting, they want this to happen.
you are either retarded or a liar. possibly both.
Go to hell you leftoid , your mind is an ugly thing.
you leftoids are half snake half humans.
Trump will win and you will be sour and sore losers who will either cry in your pillow or you will commit acts of terrorism because you are the least tolerant people on this planet.
leftoids are sick in the head.
    go to hell.

  25. Except those things were not said about previous GOP candidates (with the possible exception of the most extreme partisans).
More importantly, when you look at Trump’s history it is clear that Trump *is* a miserable slimebag that does not deserve to be running a used car dealership in Podunk.
Trying to pretend this is not true simply because you hate Clinton is irresponsible.
Sometimes change for changes sake is worse than the status quo.
Maybe next time the GOP will field a candidate worthy of being called a human being.

  26. Trump was clearly bragging about being able to get away with sexual assault because even if the victims are not willing he is famous so they can’t complain.
The fact that his response to these credible allegation is to threaten to sue the women illustrates how he is willing to abuse is position to cover up his crimes.
The guy is a slimebag for any who willing to look at the evidence.

  27. The guy is a slimebag for any who willing to look at the evidence.
    oh yeah?
That is all we do on right wing blogs; look at the evidence the main stream media will not show us, and any sane person can see Hillary is the slime bag here.
There is NO FBI inquiry opened on Trump’s activities, but there is one on Hillary.
There are no wikileaks emails that show Trump is a criminal, there are hundreds that clearly show HIllary and the entire Democrat machine is as corrupt as the mafia.
I could go on, but your mind is way WAY too brainwashed to be able to perceive reality as it is…either that or you are paid by democrats to post anti-Trump lies and pro-Hillary crap on various right wing blogs.
