  1. Progressives and their windmills – doing almost as much harm to the environment as they are to the poor (Through energy poverty)

  2. Amazing how the media and greens hold a double standard about animals deaths: green mortalities get a bye and fossil fuel deaths cause the greens and media to go ballistic.
Just finished some calculations for my talk in Edmonton next week….
In 2015, 82,000 GWh of electricity was produced in Alberta. I assumed output in 2030 would be proportional to the ratio of “peak Alberta internal load (AIL)” in 2015 to 2030. Therefore, total electrical output in 2030 will be 111,000 GWh. In 2030, renewables will produce 17,628 GWh or 16% of total production. (All AESO data..my calcs)
If the plan proceeds, renewables will produce approximately one half of the goal of 30%!! Gets better..or worse.
Electricity generation produces 17% of Alberta’s emissions. (Alberta govt figure) Therefore the billions that will be spent might reduce CO2 by a theoretical maximum of 2.75% but that does not include added need for natural gas reserves and life-cycle CO2 cost of added infrastructure (turbines and gas generation) plus reduced efficiencies of gas plants as they are forced to ramp up and down in response to fluctuating wind..a well-documented fact.
    Conclusion
CO2 reductions from renewables in 2030 will be between 1 and 2% at a cost to taxpayers and ratepayers of about $20 to $30 billion.
There are better ways to improve the lot of Albertans.
I sure hope Trump puts a stop to this global insanity. He is our best hope. With Congress and the Senate now in charge we should see some real progress: Paris will be null and void.

  3. And China has just announced they will increase coal use by 30% by 2020. Alberta (and my province Ontario) efforts are like p1ssing in the ocean and expecting to get your Irish cousins feet wet.

  4. Anyone remember how much Suncor was forced to pay for the 3 duck deaths? That same amount should be applied to the bird choppers.

  5. And just imagine … in order to meet all the “green” goals of the UN climate ghouls, and eco-leftists here in N.America … the number of these big azzz propellers will have to quadruple ! These awful contraptions will COVER the landscape. There won’t be ANY flyway spared.
If 1/10th of this DEATH and DESTRUCTION of wildlife and landscape were due to a “fossil-fuel” power plant … the FINES would have already forced the operators into bankruptcy.
    PS … BUILD THE PIPLINE(s) president Trump !! Starting Jan. 21, 2017

  6. And with Suncor there was a malfunction at the junction and the countermeasures that were in place were not activated. With wind power, the death of bats and birds is fully known in advance and deemed acceptable.

  7. Big deal! Bat deaths will decrease over time. The more bats that are killed, the fewer there will be to be fed to the blenders. Pretty soon, bat deaths will end. No bats, no bat deaths. Sarc/off

  8. One of the many wonderful things about Trump is that in all his many speeches he never ever supported wind energy.
It is my fervent hope that a Trump presidency may spell the end of the global warming fraud. He needs to kill it completely dead and he could do that. Kill all “green” subsidies. Reject the Paris accord. Burn lots of coal. It could be a wonderful thing and to see the fraud die would be nothing short of a beautiful miracle.

  9. Wait until you guys get a load of what’s coming out of Alberta in relatively short order. Unfathomably bad. Will make Ontario’s “plan” look like a model of German efficiency. Government has no clue what it is doing but they are going to rush it all through before 2019. The pigs are all here already lining up at the trough. Ludicrously expensive projects, unproven technology, long term guaranteed purchase agreements, massive increases to electricity bills….. we’ll have it all. Or, at least, all the foreign companies doing the deals and making all the money will…..

NOTE: I posted this a couple of days ago and so I don’t want people to think I am being arrogant…Just trying to get the word out.
Background:I was invited to speak at the climate plan/carbon tax rally in Lethbridge last Saturday.
slaw, you might be interested in my talk…it reiterates your points. Please read the “info” section with the video.

  11. More birds are killed by wind turbines than by all oil spills, including the oilsands tailing ponds.

  12. Very good presentation. Pity that those brainwashed NDP idiots would never understand the logic in it.

  13. The devout cowboy lost his favorite Bible while he was mending fences out on the range. Three weeks later, a bat flew up to him carrying the Bible in its mouth. The cowboy couldn’t believe his eyes. He took the precious book out of the bat’s mouth, raised his eyes heavenward and exclaimed, “It’s a miracle!” “Not really,” said the Bat. “Your name is written inside the cover.”

  14. Seriously, I can’t believe that the Alberta needs the government to produce wind energy, especially not in the Cowley Ridge area where hundreds of turbines are already generating power. I’ve watched them for years, going back to the early 1990’s. Waterton Lakes is my favorite place on the planet. The turbines were fun to watch, and I still believe them to be practical when owned by private individuals who get paid for the power they sell to the grid.
And as much as the Coley Ridge is one of the windiest places in Canada, I’ve seen the turbine rotors still, in broad daylight at noon.

  15. “I can’t believe that the Alberta needs the government to produce wind energy…”
The average price paid for wind electricity is below the overall average. The bidding/selling system is complex, but as I understand it, generators have standing bids. Wind low balls bids (apparently bidding zero) and then takes spot market price. See, they need to sell everything..they are price takers not price setters. Well guess what, since wind output is unmanageable (at random times and amts) a lot of what is produced (between late evening to early morning) is sold at rock bottom prices. Income is poor and CanWEA has said many times how inexpensive wind is. They are sort of right. But they ain’t making much or any money.
The BIG issue of course is that wind is often at or close to zero. And we can’t run society and the grid on such variable and unpredictable output. That really is the big problem with renewables: low average outout that is unpredictable.
So CanWEA (and CanSIA) specifically asked Shannon for subsidies one year ago. And the govt has confirmed that they are accepting bids for 400 MW or renewables (to start), meaning investors will be submitting bids in which they will ask for X cents/KWh for electricity..probably market price PLUS X cents. The killer is that they will be signing 20-year contracts. The NDP want 5,000 MW more of wind, solar and hydro by 2030. They believe the only way to get that is via incentives.
As much as we like to think contracts can be cancelled, we all know that will cost money.
BTW CanWEA and CanSIA in their joint submission (9/15) asked for up to 15,000 MW of wind and solar..would cost between $50 and $60 billion. We are a province of 4.2 million people.
These are every dangerous people and Shannon is like a goddamn kid in a candy store. She is on a huge eco-ego power trip. Very dangerous lady. With a majority they can do what they want.
Trump’s win will have HUGE effects on global treaties and climate plans. I hope so.
