“Postmedia’s death will be a catastrophe — and nobody knows what to do about it
There’s a civic disaster brewing in Canada with its news industry. The public doesn’t understand it. Policy makers dare not speak its name.
Many close observers think it is quite likely Postmedia will go into bankruptcy, or some kind of bankruptcy protection, within the next year — if not sooner. In the meantime, the chain is stripping its newsrooms of reporters and editors.”

“Tumbler Ridge, B.C., home to several hundreds of recently discovered dinosaur bones and fossilized footprints, is somewhat of a treasure trove for palaeontologists; however, its latest relic marks a historic first for B.C.
A dinosaur skull discovered in Tumbler Ridge area in early June is the province’s first dinosaur skull ever found.”

“CARACAS, Venezuela – Driving through the streets of Caracas, it is impossible not to notice the ubiquitous government propaganda on the sides of buildings and scores of armed police.
Even harder to avoid, however, is the garbage.”
“Those who eat what they find have developed the skill of finding edible bits of food where they can.
In an interview with Colombia’s El Tiempo, for example, one woman noted that some neighborhoods are known for having the “good” garbage – the kind with food in it that can be recooked and consumed, as opposed to non-food waste.”

“Catastrophic period for coral reefs appears to be ending”
“… an unprecedented three-year period of coral bleaching has stopped, after causing extensive damage to the world’s coral reefs.”
“NOAA blamed global warming and El Niño — the periodic warming of the Pacific Ocean off South America — for the bleaching that began in 2014. It brought unprecedented attention to the plight of the world’s reefs, inspiring Outside magazine last year to publish an “obituary” for Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.”

  5. I wouldn’t celebrate just yet. Berman may have stepped down from that public position but I’m sure she’ll be behind the scenes somewhere, working hard and continuing to undermine the oil industry. Oh, and she’ll be well-paid for it, too.

…the McCain Institute for International Leadership.
Critics worry that the institute’s donors and [John] McCain’s personal leadership in the organization’s exclusive “Sedona Forum” bear an uncanny resemblance to the glitzy Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) that annually co-mingled special interests and powerful political players in alleged pay-to-play schemes.
The institute has accepted contributions of as much as $100,000 from billionaire liberal activist-funder George Soros and from Teneo…
And Bloomberg reported in 2016 on a $1 million Saudi Arabian donation to the institute, a contribution the McCain group has refused to explain publicly.

  9. Live election results
    https://www.nytimes.com/elections/results/georgia-congressional-runoff-ossoff-handel
The race between Jon Ossoff and Karen Handel is largely seen as a referendum on the first months of Donald J. Trump’s presidency. It’s also the most expensive U.S. House race in history.
From the Independent, won’t link but this is the article georgia-special-election-trump-jon-ossoff-democrats-vote-humiliation-president-republican-heartland
I sure do hope that GOP candidate, Karen Handel, wins (double digits please please) just to observe the cognitive dissonance bomb going off again. “It’s like de-ja vu all over again” (The great Yogi Berra). That kind of winning never gets old.

  10. Re: Senator Martin.
That’s the first thing that came to mind when I read the story!

  11. That same page now has declared the Republican Handel as the winner, but certainly not by double digits.
