  3. It took a few days, but I literally can no longer cry. My eyes still get a touch teary on occasion, which actually helps a little to ease the discomfort of my eyeballs. It feels as though I have two black eyes.

    I’ve been fortunate enough so far to have not lost my mother/father, brothers or any children.

    I know now what to expect when I do.

    Put a stick out, isn’t a lot different than Michelle Obama tweeting #bring back our girls !
    Putting the stick out is just an easy way to be part of the story, yet NOT DOING anything !
    Maybe I’ve just been listening, too much to CJME. But I’ve had story overload already yesterday, half way through Gormley. Now the News dept. is simply jonesing for some award, like they got for the obsessive reporting on FtMac. Oh ya don’t let me forget their sportsboy, he’s a jonesing too.
    Media does know when it’s too much, yet they keep pumping anyway.
    Here’s some questions I’m not hearing the media ask.
    1) who will have control over the 7 million in funds raised? The girl who started it?
    2) to who and how will the money be distributed? who will decide how much anyone will get, and what will their administration fee be(after all, it’s 7mil)? will the club itself share in the windfall?
    3) why can’t the league get the playoffs figured out and started again? how is Sask delay going to fit with the other provinces.
    4) did the Humboldt team carry life insurance for it’s players, coaches and auxiliary people involved?
    5) Why can’t the public know who the semi driver is? is he a Canadian, can we know that at least?
    Sorry again if I’ve hurt anyone’s feeelllinnngs!

    2. I’m actually hoping some of the money might go into a trust to help young players via scholarships with tuition or apprenticeships when their junior careers are done. Maybe the affected families could review applications and so on….They could restrict it to Saskatchewan natives, or western leagues or whatever, doesn’t matter.

    3. I gotta admit I agree with you on some of points you made. The media is reveling in this , making a spectacle of this absolute tragedy. Forget the plastic flowers and teddy bears. Take some time to reflect with prayer.

      I realize people genuinely care, but this was an accident… a tragic accident, and putting a hockey stick on your doorstep, or tweeting some trendy hashtag will not bring some kind of awareness to prevent the next one. Stop already.

      1- gofundme has rules. If we all donate (looks like) 100 million to the crash victims, they get the money. No one can say joe has enough we need a new Zamboni so lets get that. That has been reported…… on numerous gofundmee endeavours whatever the the prime reason was for funding the cash goes to that. Look it up or rely on the lame stream media to do it for you.

      2- The Bronco organization released a note how the hired an outside firm to manage the funds-reported in the lame street media

      3- the SJHL is having a conference call Wednesday. The president admitted that whatever decision the board decided will have people unhappy. A bold statement I thought and a topic for its own thread. But it was reported in the mainstream media you hate and ignore.

      4-likely You really think a major Junior Hockey team would put 29 souls on a bus 30-40 times a year without insurance??????

      5-Ask the RCMP…. The majority OPINION is the semi driver ran a stop sign. Maybe there was mechanical fail(brakes on Semi) maybe he thought he could cross road before the bus and the bus driver “could” have slowed down maybe there is more…. like a hundred other scenarios.

      One more… the SJHL along with CO-OP announced a fund to help other players on all the teams…… reported in the media you seem to hate

      And as you bitchen about too much coverage? I HATE that too much cow chit music is played on 92.9 the Bull and too much of the new pop chit on C95……….. turn the dial.

  9. Q: How do you ensure the funds will be used for their stated purpose?

    A: In the case of the big campaign, we are in touch with the president of the Humboldt Broncos club and we are working with them to figure out the best way to have them disperse the funds in a fair manner. That will take a few days to figure out the best practices. We are working closely with them. We also have a lot of expertise based on other tragedies that have occurred and we have worked with many different organizations to make sure funds are dispersed properly.

  10. It seems like maybe there’s a mainstream core identity and culture in Canada after all.

    I’ve had that thought since Saturday afternoon when I was looking at a GoFundMe page that was $700,000 over a revised target of $1 million. There were more than 25,000 donors and a look at the donor list disclosed that most were in the $10, $20, $50, $100 range. The Flames and Oilers had yet to donate their 50-50 proceeds, the Jets, Blackhawks, Penguins, other NHL teams, the Coop in Saskatoon hadn’t announced funding.

    My thought grew out of all those small donations from all over the place. I held on to it though, because it has a political inference that I didn’t want to introduce. Today, Deplorable Me above has pointed out a casual stick to the face from a writer on the left of some notoriety that kind of tears it so I’m posting it.

    M. Trudeau, as usual, and Ms. Loreto are wrong.
    I wouldn’t expect her to answer, but I’m wondering, does Ms. Loreto seriously think that the response of Canadians would be different had the hockey players on that bus been girls or young women? Different again if several were say, of East Indian or Japanese heritage?

  13. What ever did we do before the advent of the internet to show our maudlin grief? All life is precious none more so than others. I won’t be putting out sticks or putting out teddy bears or flowers or…….. Some earthly lives have ended let us take care of the living. The world did not end when a truck driver blew a stop sign and 15 kids lost their lives anymore that the world ended when the airliner crashed in Algiers this morning or the bus went over the cliff in India the other day. Sadly lives end, sometimes unexpectedly and seemingly too soon but that is not reason enough for me to make an empty gesture like putting out a hockey stick to show how sad I am that someone died. Before anyone calls me hard hearted let me simply say that I have been present when people died. I have buried my own son and other family members. I am well aware of real grief and know the difference between it and meaningless public displays posted on the internet like some sort of virtue signalling.
