      1. It is alarming to me that a publication like the Smithsonian Magazine would even publish an article like this….. an article that would be right at home on blogs like Salon, Huff Post, Daily Kos, etc. Usually I use the phrase “It’s way worse than we thought.” as a form of sarcasm. In this case, it applies as truth. I always knew that the forces of the left were relentless in their attacks on western culture but the publication of an article like this in the Smithsonian means it actually IS way worse than we thought.

        1. National Geographic has been on this for years which is why I deleted my subscription with them. It was hard to read any story without the mention of “caused by climate change” or some such phrase.

          1. My family were charter members of NatGeo. We had copies of NatGeo going all the way back to the first publication.

My parents cancelled their subscription all the way back in the late ’80s due to the liberal politics.

            1. Any institution not specifically conservative will eventually be taken over by the left and all balance purged.

            2. The Left eventually kills everything it touches.

Ergo: Every institution will eventually be killed by the Left.

  1. Macleans is the Neo-Marxist rag queen of Canadian lefty fake news. I guess the Toronto Brown Star would be king?

  2. I’d be thrilled if this winter ever died.

My kayak is all cleaned and ready to go, the snowblower is put away, and so yesterday we get yet another 22″ of snow.

My tomatoes are already 3″ high indoors. I have my sandals and boating shoes out. It’s almost May.

Al Gore, you have failed me once again. Pray for global warming.

    1. My T-short slogan:

Al Gore promised me global warming but all I got was this lousy climate change!

  3. Question you should ask a lemming who fears global warming:

If you were immediately taken and dropped:
A-In the middle of the North Pole or
B- In the middle of a jungle at the equator
Which of the two would give you the better chance for survival?

Life on earth much prefers heat; not cold…D’uh!

  4. for 2000 years the kristians have perDICKted the end, I hope this gorebullwarming dies sooner than that!!!

    1. The ‘end times eschatology’ of our high priests of the green theology make Christians seem rather tame & lame by comparison.

      1. it’s the endurance that is troubling, when will people learn that belief is just that, and not fact!

  5. 22 inches of Global Warming just down the road in Maple Grove MN (NW Minneapolis suburb). That is 55.9 cm for the metrically challenged. Only had 15″ or so here, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Lots of drifting in the 20-30 mph winds.

    More expected on Wednesday.

    1. Yeah sure. But it’s 58℉ here in California. Millions of snowflakes are at risk.

      Damn near a Greek tragedy.

    1. We’re being subjected to lots of white-coloured climate change here in Edmonton right now.

  6. The grass is supposed to start greening up in northern Alberta today. What’s with the foot or two of snow on the ground? A week ago I had to walk across some undisturbed snow and my boys were dragging in the snow – 3 feet of snow at a time when some years it is summer. Hey guys – let’s destroy our economy because it is so warm, on the false pretense that humans have a damn thing to do about it.

    1. Just over a year ago, I made my first road trip from Edmonton to the house I inherited in northern B. C. The roads were good and the worst weather I encountered were rain showers somewhere around the Smoky River while I was coming into Grande Prairie.

Near the end of April last year, we got a sudden dump of snow. I tried making the same trip and ended up in the ditch less than an hour out of Edmonton. The Yellowhead Highway was down to single-lane traffic each way in places.

  7. It doesn’t matter how cold or how long it’s a sign of warming . The ice caps are melting. Coming next pictures of palm trees sprouting at the North Pole .

    1. Hate to tell you but the glaciers have been melting for 10 thousand years. Apparently humans are only responsible for the last 50 years.

    2. According to the link I posted above, not even the ice caps are melting — so their basket of tricks to convince us that the earth is warming is looking pretty empty at this point.

  8. In a related story … CA was headed for the return of Jerry Brown’s “never-ending” drought of global warming …
    https://sf.curbed.com/2018/2/5/16974204/drought-california-2018
… until one of our COMPLETELY NORMAL, ROUTINE … late … winters showed up and drenched the State in rain and snow. And it DUMPED rain on the Bay Area yesterday … and still raining today …

The Warmists are getting so DESPERATE … that they will be doubling-down on their weak “science” with more and more urgency and idiocy.

    I welcome their desperation …

  9. I think it would simplify things if North American mainstream media would publish all climate change news under the same headings to be more easily identified by the faithful. May I suggest calling the climate change section The Watchtower or Awake!.

I’m sorry those names appear to be taken. How about The Climate Watchtower and Awoke!?

  10. The alternate lifestyle camel jockey wondered whether weather had lowered the libido of his favorite wether.

  11. yupper dupper. all hail the ‘experts’ who over time told us under threat of torture and burning at the stake that
    – the earth is the centre of the universe
    – heavy things fall faster
    – the earth is still flat
    – witches lurk everywhere (see above burning at the stake)
    – no such thing as microscopic pathogens
    – there are only 4 elements, air, water, fire, dirt or wtf-ever
    – ummm . . . . .

a.k.a. people believe what the WANT to believe. this is the saving grace of being autistic. I am hard wired to investigate and question all manner of phenomenon. got me in a LOT of trouble with teachers, bosses, clients, acquaintances,
but, BUT, I’m still here. I did NOT lose every penny in a ‘bubble’, etc.

the glacier thing worked wonders for me. it shoved megatonnes of nicely rounded eroded river rock my way which I dug out of a couple berms near my place and used for landscaping, a savings of thousands of dollars. (price the stuff).

  12. I’ve said it before: if Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal and (especially) Ottawa inhabitants had to rely on wind/solar power exclusively (ie no hydro, coal, gas, nuke – no back up), for two weeks, the debate would end.

Better in the winter to deliver the message, but anytime really. Let them experience the new green economy.

From the New Green Grit Economy: “Johnny and his family, taken aback, suddenly saw the benefits of pipelines.”

  13. Snow still here in Cleveland area 4/16 – Snow on Baseball Opening day is common, not two weeks later.

I’m still waiting for Palm Trees on Lake Erie.

    1. Ha! Please NOTE: Al Gore invested in oceanfront property in Santa Barbara … NOT … beachfront property on Lake Erie. $$$ talks … Bulldroppings walk

    1. What is really interesting in the Gridwatch data at 13:17 today is that the Ontario demand is about 17K to 18K megawatts. Back in 2003, the yearthe grid went down, demand was bumping 25K MW. Why the difference? It’s not conservation or efficiency or LED light bulbs. It’s because so many businesses have closed due to Liberal policies and electrical prices. These include pulp & paper mills, steel mills, manufacturing plants, automobile plants and others.

What is interesting also is how under wind power the output and availabity figures are almost the same making you think they are very efficient. In fact they don’t show the claimed boilerplate ratings of the installations. For example Ripley South says its putting out ~ 17 MW when in fact it is rated at ~ 70+ MW. Its true efficiency is below 30%. Not efficient at all.

The ~ 2000 MW being produced by wind power could be produced by 2 more modern nukes at either Bruce or Darlington without ravaging the country side with ugly wind turbines.

      1. Single largest electrical user in Ontario from that past time is gone.
The Kidd Metallurgical Complex including a copper smelter, East of Timmins is now a pastoral field.
        Thanks Ms. Wynne.
BTW, Kidd copper concentrate now shipped to the Horne smelter in Quebec.

  14. I read the other day that our record stretch of below zero temperatures is actually a sign of global warming. Made me realize that Warming means warming and staying the same means warming and cooling means warming. IOW all evidence however contradictory leads to the same conclusion. Isn’t there a fancy Greek word for that phenomena?

  15. Science is three things: A philosophy of the natural world (intelligible, objective, rational); an empirical method for formulating testable conjectures, validating provisional hypotheses, verifying projected theoretical outcomes in context-and-perspective of cross-disciplinary observations via new tests excluding a-causal, anti-entropic, subjective or otherwise non-replicable “matters of opinion” (no miraculous interventions, psychic phenomena, ad verecundiam appeals or parti pris conclusions need apply).

On this basis, given its extreme partisan-political biases plus intrinsic lack of controlled empirical evaluations (no-one experiments with climate), so-called “climate science” is an inherently arbitrary statistical exercise akin to botany. Whatever fancy academic credentials deviant AGW hysterics cobble up, their circular-reasoned presuppositions devolve to taxpayer sponsored coin-tosses, tea-leaf readings. Obfuscate linear extrapolations as they may, these Grand Theft knaves and charlatans have no honest findings to offer anyone.

    1. Climate science is rooted in a denial of socioeconomic entropy.

Any change from the ordered status quo is deemed harmful rather than normal.

Right, harmful to their phony baloney jobs & belief in hobgoblins.

Our disorder is their ordered world, which it isn’t except in emotion.

But they get really cool easy jobs eh? IOW not science at all.

  16. Thanks, Canada. Now that you’re no longer having “real Canadian” winters, we’re having them down here in the Ohio Valley. Snow in April.

  17. I wish the climate doomsdayers would treat this extended cold weather like a Hale-Bopp cult. Just strip down, walk out into the brisk cool night and await the next dimensional journey.

  18. I remember the winter of 2011/12. It was unusually warm. We here in Winter-peg had a number of days of plus 7, 8, 9 in January and the snow was completely gone by mid-March. Now if it had been followed by two or three more similar winters, I might have considered becoming a believer myself. Instead we had the brutal winter of 2013/14 which, in these parts anyway, was described as the worst since 1890. Most of us are aware of variability in severity of winters or heat of summer and can read the statistics going back to the 1880s. Some of us, apparently including Maclean’s editors, prefer to rely on whatever is spoon-fed to them by the climate industry.

  19. Just a bunch of weak minded zealots. AGW is the new cult on the block. Most of these people would have wholly endorsed the “science” of witch burning.

Anyone that ever had the chance to spend a few moments with any journalism students (or read the University rag) knows that most of them didn’t exactly fall onto the right hand side of a bell curve.

Wish I could say I didn’t find it all very entertaining…but I do. Faster please.

  20. Have you noticed that the longer Albertan’s pay the “Notley Dictator Party (NDP) of Alberta Carbon Tax,” the more we have had weather like this. It is getting so bad that it is even colder than usual in Australia. … The USA and Canada East coast is also getting colder as I type this. I fear that if we continue paying this “Notley Dictator Party (NDP) of Alberta Carbon Tax” that we are heading for another Ice Age … just wait until “tRUDEau’s Carbon Tax” takes effect in ALL of Canada – then we will know what winter is going to be like. … I think Notley should look out the window and stop the tax …. we won – we cooled off the planet – it is getting more and more like cold/snow conditions in the future. … the only ones that are benefiting is the Notley Dictator Party (NDP) the future “tRUDEau Carbon Tax” for extra money in the black-hole of General Revenues and environMENTALists. Can’t wait until the Maritime s, NWT, Yukon and Nunavut (All 100% LIEberal seats) to pay the “tRUDEau Carbon Tax” … then their love for the LIEberals will grow stronger and they can vote in 100% LIEberal seats again. They will not have to pay the carbon tax on foreign oil … only Canadian oil producers do that.

  21. Here in the province of quebec, everyone I know tells me their heating bill is higher this year because our winter was colder than usual, well so was our fall and now our spring is as well…we had snow a couple days ago, that is unusual for mid April.

Global warming is a scam, the biggest scam in the history of the world.
