June 27, 2018: Reader Tips

I’m home from my excellent LA adventure with a few dog show ribbons and a week’s vacation from the news to my credit. Many thanks to Lance and Co. for filling in. Without further ado, your tips thread is open.

  1. Frivolous lawsuits did for the US health care system, opening the door for Obamacare.

Now they’re doing for US law enforcement, as insurers cancel the policies of police departments whose officers insist on doing their job and keeping themselves and their communities safe, and get sued by scumbags and race-baiters looking for a payday, using the death of a fellow scumbag as an excuse:

    http://www.governing.com/topics/finance/gov-police-misconduct-growing-financial-issue.html

Abolishing even the pretense of law enforcement with the stroke of a pen—MS-13 can only dream of such power.

    1. “Frivolous lawsuits did for the US health care system, opening the door for Obamacare.”

Ugh, nope sorry, illegal immigration vote gave Ogabe senator Al Franken and this resulted in Ogabecare.

      1. Actually, there’s no evidence of widespread illegal US voting at a scale large enough to matter.

        1. What about the embarrassment in Detroit where there couldn’t do a recount because more than 100% of the voters voted Democrat.

        2. Unmedicated, Franken won by 312 votes.

“Minnesota Majority began to look into claims of voter fraud. Comparing criminal records with voting rolls, the group identified 1,099 felons — all ineligible to vote — who had voted in the Franken-Coleman race.”

As of 2016 243 people were either convicted or awaiting trial on voter fraud in that election. 177 convicted, 66 awaiting trial. These are the cases where private groups could determine voter ineligibility. The standard for convicting someone of voter fraud in Minnesota is that they must have been both ineligible, and ‘knowingly’ voted unlawfully.” The accused can get off by claiming not to have known they did anything wrong, this is why so few convictions and trials.

The list of 1,099 known ineligible voters does not include non citizens who voted, since private organizations could not determine citizenship.

          1. Felons shouldn’t even be barred from voting in the first place. Also, what are you quoting?

        3. 1,212,629 vs 1,212,317 votes. You going to argue that there weren’t 312 illegal aliens voting for Franken in all those votes he got? Argue away not that anyone takes your bull$hit seriously.
As for lack of evidence when there is no enforcement and no verification (hence no evidence) there is no cost to illegal behavior and those who already demonstrated their willingness to break the law will do it again. If dhimicrats did not expect illegal aliens to vote they would not be opposed to voter ID. Same of course goes for you. That is exactly why you want the turd world horde swamping every western country.

  2. You know, to break up all the crushing negativity as we run up to our 2019(?) election and the US midterms, we need a full-milliions, old- school Trudeau cosplay trip to a country with terrific traditional dress. It would make me seeth with joy.

Hey! Now that I think of it, that family would look just swell dressed as Ninjas. But, more importantly, they could challenge global norms and go anywhere other than Japan dressed as Ninjas. (probably shouldn’t go to Japan as a Ninja — but most of us would’ve figured that out).

Ninja on down to visit ‘friends’ in the islands, Ninja the government jet on over to sauna in the Laurentians. Visit the Mali peacekeeping mission and while you are in Africa try Ninja-boarding the second peak at Kiliminjaro.

Hell we could make that a government thing for a while. Ninja NAFTA negotiations. Big Don’ll think twice before tweeting trash about a bad-ass Ninja. I wonder if it is in the NAFTA negotiation play book, somewhere among the crayon and doodles of cubes and dicks.

  4. 5 wives = 3 months house arrest
    25 wives = 6 months house arrest
If that’s in the winter in the B.C. interior, it won’t even be a sentence, just a fact of life.

    1. And they made no pretense of legal marriages other than calling their better 24/25 wives. Being sentenced for having sex with too many women.

    2. My only question is: what legal action has been taken against the two dozen wives?

Or, as seems the case, are only men going to be prosecuted for polygamy?

      1. I rather think, legally speaking, it’s only the men who are practicing polygamy; they’re the ones with multiple wives. Each wife has only a single husband (or a part share in one).

However, a better question would be how many of these excess wives and their offsprings are on BC welfare.

“‘Absolutely irreparable damage’: Steel firms crushed by Trump tariffs call on Ottawa for support

Canadian steel firms said Ottawa’s plan to introduce tariffs could deepen the pain of U.S. President Donald Trump’s trade war”

“Canadian steel producers are pleading with Ottawa for relief from U.S. import tariffs, with some companies saying Canada’s plan to introduce its own levies next month could further diminish their already battered bottom lines.

The comments came during House committee hearings in Ottawa Tuesday, where cash-flow-starved Canadian firms warned that U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs on steel and aluminum had already stalled major capital investments in Canada, and could lead to widespread layoffs.”

    1. Sarcasm On:

This is a great thing. Think how happy tRUDEau, and enviroMENTALists are by this. This will cut the “carbon” footprint greatly .

tRUDEau will also cut “carbon” being pumped into the atmosphere by the auto industry. This is one of the biggest production of Canada’s (and the entire world) Carbon footprint. tRUDEau, and the LIEberals, did not care about the thousands of laid-off oil workers, and he should have the same attitiude about the auto industry. – SAD

IF the auto industry was centered in Quebec, then it would be supported fully – like the Cement production plant, with no enviroMENTAL studies/assessment.

tRUDEau and his LIEberals love bringing oil from foreign countries because the oil is NOT “tRUDEau Carbon Taxed,” but only Canadian oil.

The enviroMENTALists, Yukon, NWT, Nunavut, All Maritime Provinces – they ALL have 100% LIEberal seats with tRUDEau as their leader – there should not be one complaint from the LIEberal supporter provinces – about the “tRUDEau Carbon Tax” or tariffs imposed by the Trump administration.

As soon as the Notley Dictator Party of Alberta is voted out – Alberta will join Sask and Manitoba and Ontario in not wanting this cursed “tRUDEau Carbon Tax,” which will then forced upon them by the LIEberals – AFTER the next federal election.

      Sarcasm Off

    2. Or they could simply say,

“We wipe the feet of Trudeaupia off our feet and leave it with you.

“We’ll consider returning when we have confirmation Justin Trudeau has fled the country or is in US military custody, and Old Glory is flying over Parliament Hill.

“Canada has no future economically as anything but a source of raw materials for Chinese industry and as a distribution centre for street drugs and illegal immigrants bound for the US while the Liberals are in power. It is in our shareholders’ interest to invest accordingly—in the United States.”

  6. Federal government quietly writes off loan — but won’t reveal sum or say who got it

The Liberal government appears to have written off a taxpayer loan to the auto industry in March, but is refusing to say how much the loan was for or to provide any other details.

Ottawa has been carrying large, stagnant loans to the auto sector on its books, and repayments have been past due since at least 2010. That was the year that followed a federal bailout of GM and Chrysler that was made in co-ordination with a much larger cash injection by Washington.

The most-recent public valuation of commercial loans that remain in arrears shows a total of $1.15 billion still owed to the federal government as of March 2017.

  7. Migrants Boost Per Capita Incomes and Lower Unemployment Finds Yet Another Study
Thirty years of data show “refugee burden” is a myth: Migrants to Europe have been a significant economic benefit

“Once the economists crunched the numbers they found that migrant flows during the past 30 years have had substantial positive effects on European economies. Specifically, the researchers report that migrants “significantly increase per capita GDP, reduce unemployment, and improve the balance of public finances; the additional public expenditures, which is usually referred to as the ‘refugee burden’, is more than outweighed by the increase in tax revenues.”

    http://reason.com/blog/2018/06/22/migrants-boost-per-capita-incomes-and-lo

Opposition to mass immigration = opposition to capitalism

    1. The definition of migrant used in that article is what would normally be called immigrant, and covers immigration from 1985 to 2015. most of these would be Europeans moving from one country to another, as this time period predates the migrant crisis.

      Also, French economists.

“Why Canada’s economy is at risk of falling behind

Martin Pelletier: Decisions being made in Ottawa are de-incentivizing the country’s citizens and corporations from taking risk”

“Capital investment is the lifeblood of the economy, and although Canadians like to think they are important, the fact is that Canada is a small fish in a massive ocean full of competitors for that capital.

That means our government has a huge responsibility when it comes to creating an environment that is conducive to risk-taking and attractive to investment, and that our central bank must help back that up by providing an additional layer of economic stability.

Unfortunately, we think that the decisions being made in Ottawa are doing the opposite by de-incentivizing the country’s citizens and corporations from taking risk.”

  9. There are those moments where one comes to certain realizations, one should understand that if they consider those realizations as a possibility there are those paid to consider them as well that are at work in the various political parties and media.
To the point, there has been a meme out of late of an early election the strategy being as per liberal sources to take advantage (politically) of the current trade dispute with the US. The logic is that Trudeau’s poll numbers go up (we are told by same “sources”) when “he stands up to Trump”.
Before going off on a tangent consider this.
If sources are floating this meme this indicates that there is talk among liberals to use the trade dispute for political gain. Here let me put that in a way that gets to my point.
Apparently some folks in the governing party are willing to use a trade dispute which could cost a significant job loss, even a recession, in a effort to keep their job.
What was that about not letting a crisis go to waste?
If this is true its straight out of the Clinton playbook.

  10. Yup, Canada to play hard ball with the Americans. Other than a bunch of whining I have heard no serious discussion of the serious economic challenges faced by this country. Instead of grabbing the opportunity to encourage a national discussion the CPC jumped on board with the Liebels in a knee jerk reaction.

International finance is boycotting Canada and many are shorting the Canadian stock market. As the trade war escalates the fed’s response is to offer tax subsidies. Harper led the western world to cutting corporate tax rates to make Canadian firms more competitive globally. Well Trump has trumped that call. The fact that Canada cannot afford further deficit spending resonates with few.

Vested interests globally take comfort in thinking Trump is a short term problem that will be over come. Well, it is more likely that he adds more seats in the mid terms than he loses. What then? IMHO there is more going on here than Trump. Global debt is coming home to roost and I think American ‘think’ tanks are cautioning USA governments to prepare. China, Japan and the EU are all swimming in debt. The Americans are as well but who is best prepared to survive and come out the other end stronger? It is the USA.

Canada’s future is as bad or worse than the EU. Two options: 1) Seek an immediate deal with the USA NAFTA or
    2) Implode from debt and have the country fall apart. If that happens I can see parts of Canada joining the USA. A more realistic assessment of national security risks in decades past might have avoided such a scenario. To late.

“South Carolina steel plant reopened by UK industrialist, avoiding tariffs

British industrialist Sanjeev Gupta’s GFG Industrials on Monday reopened a shuttered South Carolina steel plant in a move that will allow his U.K.-based firm to circumvent the Trump administration’s 25% tariffs on steel imports.

Liberty Steel, a London-based company owned by Gupta’s group, held a relaunch ceremony at Georgetown Steel Mill on Monday. The mill originally closed in 2015 and was acquired by Liberty House in 2017, the Myrtle Beach Sun News reported.

Liberty Steel said the facility would employ about 125 workers at launch and more than 300 workers in the “medium term,” according to a press release. GFG Alliance has vowed to invest more than $5 billion in the U.S. within the next few years.

“This is a historic moment in the story of Liberty Steel and GFG,” Gupta said at the ceremony, according to a press release. “It marks our first step into the American market and is as much a milestone for us in the USA as the restart of Liberty Steel Newport after a similar shutdown period was in the UK. That triggered a cascade of major acquisitions, investments and turnaround successes for GFG in the UK. I very much hope and expect that a similar journey has started today for our family in the USA.”

With the mill in operation, the GFG-owned facility will be able to produce steel products on U.S. soil, avoiding the tariffs.”

  12. The past several years (decades for me) have taught me that, sadly, socialism (especially its most virulent kind — Marxism) is alive and well on college campuses, in the media, in American (and Canadian) government, and even among the rank and file of American citizens. Do these followers of socialism, sometimes waving red flags and wearing “Che” Guevara t-shirts, not know about the police states and mass murders of Marxist leaders over the past 100 years?

Sick of the earthly politics. Well good news. You can become a citizen. I had no idea this was going on. No one told me.

“It took some poking and prodding and (finally) committee testimony, but now we know what the bill will be for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s carbon tax. In a report to the Senate Standing Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources, University of Calgary economics professor Jennifer Winter revealed the bottom line of the Trudeau Carbon Price.

Using energy-consumption data from Statistics Canada, and imputing prices from average household expenditure on transportation fuels and provincial gasoline prices, Winter calculated the impact of the carbon tax on a typical Canadian household across different provinces. Far from being painless as advertised, the costs to households will be significant.”
