  1. United Conservative Party Leader Jason Kenney says he wants to ditch the carbon tax that applies to all Albertans but is still in favour of “a tax on major emitters” in the province.

Emissions from those sources — which include large industrial operations like power plants and oilsands operations — account for about two-thirds of Alberta’s total carbon-dioxide output that is subject to carbon pricing, according to University of Calgary economist Trevor Tombe.

Kenney has expressed support in the past for continuing to charge major emitters but refrained from using the word “tax” when talking about such a system.

    Introduction

“Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time”, declared G-20 leaders at their 2015 meeting. Most Canadians agree. According to recent research by University of Montreal professor Erick Lachapelle and co-authors, four in five Canadians accept the evidence for climate change, nearly two in three accept human activity contributes, and a majority support strong action to lower emissions.[1] While there is vigorous debate over the appropriate tools, there is a broad consensus across party lines that action is required.

As early as 2008, the former Conservative government under Prime Minister Stephen Harper declared in an ambitious plan entitled Turning the Corner that “climate change is a global problem” and “serious action is required”. The plan called for, among other measures, a price on carbon and regulations to effectively end the construction of coal power plants.[2] More recently, Canada’s Parliament voted overwhelmingly to reaffirm Canada’s commitments under the Paris Agreement to lower our emissions by 30 percent below 2005 levels by 2030. Only one MP voted against the motion.[3]

    1. He said it in the Leaders debate. Carbon pricing on anything is still a carbon tax. Nobody listened and we still have a carbon tax.

  2. U.N. Official Reveals Real Reason Behind Warming Scare

Economic Systems: The alarmists keep telling us their concern about global warming is all about man’s stewardship of the environment. But we know that’s not true. A United Nations official has now confirmed this.

At a news conference last week in Brussels, Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of U.N.’s Framework Convention on Climate Change, admitted that the goal of environmental activists is not to save the world from ecological calamity but to destroy capitalism.

“This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time, to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years, since the Industrial Revolution,” she said.

Referring to a new international treaty environmentalists hope will be adopted at the Paris climate change conference later this year, she added: “This is probably the most difficult task we have ever given ourselves, which is to intentionally transform the economic development model for the first time in human history.”

The only economic model in the last 150 years that has ever worked at all is capitalism. The evidence is prima facie: From a feudal order that lasted a thousand years, produced zero growth and kept workdays long and lifespans short, the countries that have embraced free-market capitalism have enjoyed a system in which output has increased 70-fold, work days have been halved and lifespans doubled.

Figueres is perhaps the perfect person for the job of transforming “the economic development model” because she’s really never seen it work. “If you look at Ms. Figueres’ Wikipedia page,” notes Cato economist Dan Mitchell: Making the world look at their right hand while they choke developed economies with their left.

    Max is right

    1. Christina Figueres (the former Executive Secretary of the IPCC), made that comment back in 2015…just an fyi for those that dont/wont read the article.

Said comment has been suported by one of her working group Leaders, Ottmar Edenhoffer….Also a few years back.

To wit: “..We (UN-IPCC) Redistribute defacto the worlds wealth by Climate Policy. One has to free oneself from the illusion that INternational Climate Policy is enviromental Policy. this has nothing to do with environmental policy anymore…”

Huge news and totally unreported by ANY MSM Planet wide.
In yer FACE Communism and no one seems to give a shit.
“Weapons grade” global willful ignorance is what I see….

      Climate Change..? yea, possibly.
      CO2..? Absolutely not.
      The SUN.? Orbital mechanics.?
      More than likely.

  3. So my two postings above I have to ask a question?

Why does Jason Kenney still in favour of “a tax on major emitters” in the province of Alberta?

Is that because Kenney believes in the Paris Accord like Andrew Scheer who also supports the Paris Accord?

You all can come out with your own conclusions but as far as where I stand I don’t believe in taxing carbon at all for I was an Albertan once and technical in my heart I still am and since I work in the pipeline industry in gas, oil, nuclear and municipal all over Canada I am firmly in the camp of where Max Bernier sits on the subject.

    1. CO2 is not “pollution.”

    2. Increasing gas prices by four cents will have zero effect on climate.

    3. You can’t “make life more affordable” by taking money and giving back a portion of it.

    4. You’re a liar and a fraud.

    Catherine McKenna
    @cathmckenna
As of today, it’s no longer free to pollute anywhere in Canada. Canadians understand that climate change is real and they want us to act. That’s why we’re putting a price on pollution and working with Canadians to make life more affordable.

    1. Kenny is just one more Canadian socialist. He can call himself whatever he wants but the truth is always there. I am the only conservative left in Canada. All government could be cut by 20% tomorrow and all budgets could be balanced tomorrow.

      1. Young White Guy,
I agree with you about government expenditure cuts, perhaps it should be at an even higher rate.

The big elephant in the room is the debt. Balanced budget and deficits are cover-up terms for what a place ‘owes’- they play shell games. I cringe when I read about the dollars spent on the interest on loans. The debt is worrisome, yet no one talks about it nor pays it down.

Ralph Klein was the only one who was a conscientious politician, in this respect. The mold broke after he was created.

        1. Dear Nancy, asking Canadians to think is a waste of time. A day old Donkey has more sense.
The majority have no critical thinking skills and can not even figure out their own pay checks. And as they take less and less home in their pay checks to feed and cloth and shelter their families, they never once clue in to the fact that the size of government is harming their families.
That the Criminal Levels of Taxation is a result of way to much government.
This why I am so derogatory to Canadians. They are Pathetic Arrogant Sheep that have been raped so many time by the Government that they have prolapsed assholes.
And instead of identifying the problem and dealing with the problem. They rub their sore back sides and say why is my ass sore, I need somebody in Government to fix my sore ass, and end up getting raped again. Rinse Repeat.
A day old Donkey has more sense. I used to be a gentleman, now I am a rude and ignorant bastard, because I can see my chilren and grandchildren have no future other than slavery in the PENAL COLONY.
And it is all self inflicted “VOLUNTARY SERVITUDE”. Frederic Bastiat.

          1. Watcher, you say @ 8:17 am:
“I used to be a gentleman, now I am a rude and ignorant bastard, because I can see my chilren and grandchildren have no future other than slavery in the PENAL COLONY.”

Watcher…I hear ya! Or should I say, I read you.
Except you miss-spoke about yourself, you are not ignorant. Most others are. Ignorance is bliss, though. It is their form of self preservation!

I say, young people today should move to the States. (Marry an American citizen!)

well there ya go again watcher, you pegged it. I assert that from personal experience having a face like a donkey.

          UNIONIZED PUBLIC SERVANTS.
          Communist Politcal organizations.
De Certify the entire herd of them Country wide.
Cut their wages by 20% country wide.

And ya might stand a chance of getting rid of our Debts.
Because the # 1 LINE Item on ANY BUDGET is Labour Costs…..if ya dont.?? You end up like the CIty of Calgary … Increasing Property taxes to a Diminshing Tax Base – many by over 20-30% Annually. Mine went up 30% this yr alone from $128 to $158/month for a tiny 2 bdrm condo…..

Calgary, a locale about to degenerate into a carbon copy of Detroit.

One seriously wonders how much back channel $$$ have flown from Union coffers into Councils hands….

          1. Yea, the unionized public servants and hiring too many are the cause of debt. Like what Notley did.

      2. No, I am a rabid Conservative. Having worked in the federal government during summers while in university, I can attest that government could be cut by 50% and then, we might finally approach some sensibility. I have been fired (your services are no longer required) from 2 jobs in the private industry and both were the best thing which could happen to me at the time. I think if this happened to half of the “silly servants” in all levels of government, this would be a good thing.

    2. You have some good posts.
      Voter reform is what’s needed.

That said, Climate Barbie never talks about the elephant in the room.
      It is this:

      https://globalnews.ca/news/5329835/canadas-nuclear-waste-to-be-buried-in-deep-underground-repository/

If anything the Paris Accord should be asking about ‘what’ all countries are ‘doing’ about waste and where they are ‘putting’ their waste. They NEVER talk about that.

And PS: what the heck is the good in having an Environment Ministry? Canada has issues with where it ships plastic trash and other smelly items. No talk about THAT either.

Meanwhile, our Blabbing Barfly Barbie and her buddies are busy boozing it up in bars, at taxpayers expense.

      1. yep.

dump it *under* the currently largest fresh water body in the WORLD.
which cropped up what, 15,000 years ago?

so that in another 10,000 years it will again be covered in 500 feet of water?
and 10,000 years after THAT wtfever becomes of the humahn race wonders why fresh water in csimsngyle has trace but relatively significant amounts of radioactivity? leaking from somewhere around the shores of lake mthbblejr?

        alas, instead, expediency triumphs !!!

    1. Bingo. She appears to be in that group, although the video is somewhat grainy.

      1. The comments to the first video I mentioned nicely sum up the entire idiocy: Climate Barbie wants to ban what amounts to arboreal flatulence.

  4. wow.
get a gander @ Dr Nikolov’s responses slamming science illiterati and ‘consensus = accuracy’
plus a host of others’ put downs regarding barbie’s ‘evidence’.

  6. Re: Climate Barbie

I believe the way to deal with the climate cult is to defeat the Liberals this fall.

I’m working with one of the CPC candidates in my riding, and that’s the way we can get things working right in Ottawa again.

This fall, Andrew Scheer gets elected or Trudeau gets back in. I see no other workable options.
