  1. Agree with JM ….boycott the SOBs . Use the same tactics the left employs . This beyond beef crap is taking hold and it does not bode well for hard working Westerners . Tell srr to stick it .

  2. Having worked on a Ranch, where cattle were raised, I can confidently assert that cattle ranchers treat their animals with great care and compassion. Why? Because abusing their animals or herd is VERY BAD for business. Sadly, the general urban and suburban public have no clue about how cattle are raised, tended, and carefully health monitored. There has been so much bullshitty propaganda that the TRUTH has been long-ago dumped in pile of cow excrement.

Beef is a FABULOUS food. Eat MORE Beef

Makes me wonder whether A&W and the Roughriders are catering to a certain Canadian religious population who revere cows as gods … along with a menagerie of other make-believe gods with 12 arms, and such.

  3. Kate, if I didn’t know better it sounds like you are starting an ideological checklist ?
As Tevye said: “If I bend that far, I’ll break.”
Try saying “Go Stamps !”, repeat three times – now wouldn’t you rather eat some franken-food vegi-burger ?

  4. Go after A&W and it’s ad agency first then complain to the CFL. These gender studies graduates figured they could pay some equally idiotic actors to dress up as “Rough Rider fans” to slobber and drool over the equivalent of compressed dog-doo.
I won’t darken the doors of A&W ever again. The same goes for Harvey’s and Burger King.
The way these firms are pushing the fake food is nauseating.

  5. It’d be real shame if a big pile of green ‘diversity is strength’ merch were to catch fire.

  6. What you don’t want Australia ROO… They are rodents that Burger King was selling for years before they where caught… nobody complained……Pet food down under….or a Burger called the Lot

    BTW: Riders won’t win Sh*t
The Riders have a Offensive Coordinator that belongs in High school FB… structurally silly play…..

My Bama hired the worst College Offensive Coordinator EVER (fired for repeatable errors) prior to the FINAL Championship game in 2018/19..THEY LOST BADLEY and proved that competence matters…. Football can be strange ( That Coach had played for the Riders in the 90’s) Bama fired both Coordinators this year & are all about winning

    JMHO

  7. A&W CEO Susan Senecal.
Currently attempting massive expansion. Capital layout is huge when chains attempt this. Everything is leveraged. A boycott could crush them with even the most modest revenue results.
She’s from Montreal and HQed in Vancouver.
A bit out of touch. Ripe for biting.

  8. I thought Rr had actually done something. They did nothing the writer was just heavily triggered by an ad for a dumb burger substitute. Anyone who is actually invested in a sports team is a moron anyway. A&W still beats the competition, but McDonald’s is actually getting good.

  9. Until the Riders start selling Beyond Burgers in their stadium then this is just a…’nothing burger’.
    😉

  10. I think a lot of people are getting fed up with being preached at constantly. If you enjoy football or sports generally or anything else for that matter……are we not allowed enjoy without a heaping helping condescension from the woke??? I was recently told by my 16 year old granddaughter that I was woke….haha….Thankfully I’m not.

The Overton window (The Overton window is a political theory that refers to the range (or window) of policies that the public will accept.) allows us to see how, formerly considered radical thought, becomes normalized. When radical thought is not challenged and debated (which occurring now, when the WOKE will not allow anything to be discussed….WOKE is WOKE), the closer we move closer to intellectual tyranny.
The famous quote, which I believe was erroneously attributed to Voltaire, says it all……….
‘I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it,’

Below is my comment to the article on her site.

Great article! Well said. You have thoughtfully pointed out some great points.
I believe it was Earl’s Restaurant chain and their parent company, which decided to attack Canadian beef and instead source their beef from an American firm, which was Halal. The backlash was swift and effective.
In this case and with Tim Horton’s, they have decided to push the Beyond Meat narrative, which is loaded with falsehoods. I prefer fact based discussions and positively promoting your products. Fear mongering and demonizing because we aren’t woke enough, is condescending and childish. To those woke apologists, I’ll let you eat what you like…please let me do the same.

As for Marina Holtzman, I appreciate what you are trying to say, although I do believe the Rider’s do have copyright protection and you would need their permission you use the logo.

H……you are another matter….wow…..a lot of vegan angst there….You do come across as very woke, so good for you. Preachy and condescending all at the same time….I can only hope to reach your level of certitude. Yikes. Back to your basement! The real world is for living!

Thanks again for a great article, very informative and thought provoking.

    Cheers,

    Peter

PS: Kate has always been a great champion for free speak and has an excellent BS detector. Pun intended.

  11. Today, while running errands, my wife mentioned she was hungry. A&W drive-through close. A couple of [beef] burgers– familiar names unchanged in decades– and root beer.

Waiting to advance to pay and pick up, I glanced at the exterior wall of the drive through. There was a poster feet from my face with an A&Wish cartoon character (very Seussian) woke-scolding. “…it’s like giving your conscience a hug.”. I redirected my gaze to my lovely wife and the yellowing trees nearby.

It was nice watch the foliage slowly change, without guilt, while we faded into our winter years waiting to move forward a couple of car lengths.

Sorry A&W, I sleep well at night, your similie sucks, your cynical marketing campaign is terribly annoying, but then again I’m not really your demo. (Too old, don’t buy enough over-priced ‘burgers’ and generally laugh at your hyper-processed pea burger ads).

AND A&W, your environmentally-enlightened paper straws are the absolute sh1ts.

The line up over at the McD’s was too long for us today. Not next time.

  12. It’s a free market. We’ve had hucksters and snake oil salesmen forever.
The beef industry will have to counter the claims that have been around for decades.
“”According to a study commissioned by Beyond Meat with the Center for Sustainable Systems at the University of Michigan, a plant-based burger generates 90% less greenhouse gas emissions…”

The CPC does share the CO2 concern & supports the Liberals on the Paris Accord. You can’t have it both ways folks! Is the CO2 a problem or not? And if NOT then why are we still supporting LIBCON governments pissing away money on a fake problem by selling the public a fake story that gets turned and used against farmers as in this case???

I seeded the land back into pasture and hay and reforested some. I can’t bring myself to tiling the farm and draining every last wet hole. I realize the cows pass gas but I sleep good to the sound of crickets and frogs. I earn less but then the gov’t takes less and I don’t buy season tickets (subject to HST) to CFL games. I’m still waiting for farmers to get paid for carbon credits/offsets they produce like the oil companies get paid for building windfarms.

  13. Dear Canadian Beef Industry:
My name is Dave Sanderson, and I’m the (retired) former VP Marketing of Coca-Cola Canada.
Remember the old ‘Pepsi Challenge’ TV commercials from the 1980s and early 1990s, where everybody did a ‘blind taste test’ of Coke and Pepsi and EVERYBODY chose Pepsi? Well, I conceived and implemented the solution that put a worldwide end to the Pepsi Challenge …the Pepsi Challenge has not been seen anywhere on earth since 1992 when my solution killed it forever.

I’d be delighted to tell the beef industry a similarly effective, inexpensive, EASY solution to get those veggie burger commercials killed quickly. I do NOT want any payment for this, I just want to support Canadian farmers and end the relentless march of fake meat. If you are in any official position in the Canadian beef industry text my cell at (919)903-1900 and I will phone you back promptly to discuss.

    Best regards,
    Dave Sanderson
