  1. Ouch…now that has to be embarrassing. Your wife pleading with reporters that their questions have made her husband cry. Then calls Cherry a bigot! The man that paid for her extravagant and luxurious lifestyle. With friends like that…

  2. I can only hope and pray that for the rest of his life, whenever MacLean enters an arena, he is greeted with a loud, foot-stomping cheer!
    WEA-SEL!
    WEA-SEL!
    WEA-SEL!

  3. “this is absolutely an educational institution”

Wow. It’s NOT, if you have to INSIST that it is …
More of a re-education gulag, if you ask me

      1. This person seems to be making comments like this regularly.
I think it is designed to bring bad repute to the site and its readers.

      1. No it wasn’t, actually. Throwing a valued co-worker and Canadian icon under the wheels of the SJW bus is an act of cowardice and no bones about it. I will take that as a fair assessment of the people involved and second it.

    1. I’ve cut back my time reading SDA comments by 50% and guess I could now reduce it by another 25%. I do like to keep an eye on what conservative-thinking Canadians are saying about current events but there’s a limit to the kind of crudeness this old soul can take and still feel clean. God bless you, JIm.

  4. What is it with the University of Alberta that seems to love rubbing salt into an open wound. They honor
David Suzuki whose hatred of the Alberta oil & gas industry is well understood and now this. Deliberately
    provocative and outrageous IMO.

    1. Universities attract people who want to avoid real work in the real world. A university is a place where you can pretend you are more intelligent and more knowledgeable than everyone outside, and you get a guaranteed audience who have to pretend they agree, even if they don’t. (Of course not everyone is like that, but it attracts such people and they tend to be the ones most motivated to get into positions that enable them to have things their way, and the ordinary decent people tend to go along to be nice and to have a quiet life until it is too late.) It’s paid for by the taxpayers who effectively have no say in it, politicians don’t want to stir things up if they can avoid facing the problem, students either just want to get out with the certificate of somethingology they were sold as the entry ticket to a good career or they want to join the university scam for life.

      1. A friend did an MSc at U of A. His verdict: “many avant-garde types wearin’ it like a badge.”

  5. Great timing! Haha

Conferring honor on a weasel of dishonor.

His life will never been the same.

  6. Ron McLean is a well hated Canadian who used to be well-liked. His cowardly actions following Don Cherry’s firing amounts to back-stabbing.

Again …. “RON McLEAN IS A WELL-HATED CANADIAN”

    Enjoy, Ron … you weasel.

  7. Somebody thinks something do they? I think all of the Canuck swamp are a bunch of ignorant, dishonest parasites.
Do I get to impeach them? I’m presuming all of this, I overheard a phone call and it’s obvious from their body language.
If that’s good enough for the Dems, who like the CBC and the Canuck swamp agree on that, time to offer those resignations.

  8. Confession: I really enjoy raw footage.

And as much as I hate to say it, even the MSM can, on occasion, ask good question but only if you see the raw footage.

    I blame the producers.

  9. Sorry, but this kind of ‘interview’ is crap. I support Cherry and his right to free expression but ambushing MacLean at an event like this is gutter journalism. The Rebel needs to do some soul searching about what the point of their venture actually is. This garbage helps exactly no one.

      1. New rules? That’s a cop-out for the Rebel reporter acting like an asshole. Unless you really want public discourse to descend to such depths as to leave the only option to pick up weapons and start clubbing each other. The goal of pursuing a news story should be to convince reasonable people in between both sides of the polarized right and left of another point of view. That’s not what this is – it’s simply a pointless attack piece which accomplishes nothing. Kate’s site, which is generally fantastic, and which I’ve faithfully followed since it’s inception, should ignore Rebel ‘reports’ like this and similar pointless BS, and selectively highlight those stories and reporters that demonstrate reasoned arguments for a more rational world.

        1. No….actually it’s simply playing the game of the left. The more of this that happens to these clowns, the better. It reveals the truth. More Rebel reports, please. It’s kind of like Project Veritas in the U.S. Touching stuff that the advocacy journalists in the so-called “mainstream” media do all that they can to avoid the questions or kick dirt over the answers.

          1. Project Veritas’ work to expose corruption in media, government, and corporations is far more worthy than chasing after Ron ‘Beta’ MacLean to embarrass him into accepting a book full of signatures to reinstate Don Cherry to Coaches Corner. What an utter, vile waste of time. There is nothing similar whatsoever between Project Veritas and this useless ambush of MacLean.

        2. Sorry, no offense meant; it’s just that I’m failing to care about losing strategies; the “worst are full of passionate conviction” for sure; best of luck with the reasoned approach

        3. “Unless you really want public discourse to descend to such depths as to leave the only option to pick up weapons and start clubbing each other.”
Umm, have you been paying attention?
Since the imposition of the “Human Rights Commissions”.
          The “Hate Speech” rulings.
And especially after the Supreme Court ruling of “Truth is not a defence in a human rights case”.
The shrieking mobs ,offended by other people who disagree with them being “allowed” to speak.

          We are already there.

We amuse ourselves forcing these pious asshats to live by their new rules, but civil society is done.
Rules for me but none thee, leads to clue sticks all round.
Permitted speech is not free speech.
Free speech is the soft way civil society used to use to find common ground.
Now that that tool is criminalized, why do you doubt we will descend into violence ?

We are an expressive bunch, denied speech we will use other methods designed to reach through your insulation.

          1. John Robertson:

I choose to think it’s not too late. Jordan Peterson refused to be cowed, and look where it got him. His messsages resonated, and he is a tremendously successful and inspriational figure for the light of reason.

If you’re right, we all lose. I’m not giving up yet, and I refuse to jump in with the leftist anarchist sewer rats.

Because that’s what they want you to do. To give up hope. I refuse to give up hope. You shouldn’t either.

We will win with the strength of reasoned conviction shown by men like Jordan Peterson, and women like Kate McMillan.

          2. KC I have not given up hope.
The coming blood bath is a logical result of our new state religion and the unbelievable idiocy of our time and progressive comrades.
It is impossible to reason someone out of a point of view that is entirely emotional.
They do not reason nor think rationally, they FEEL!
And their tolerance is such that only what they feel is real.
And it seems only pain reaches the truly unreasonable.

Surrender ? True that is what is being demanded, not what they are going to get.
It takes a Liberal(21st Century version) to mistake forbearance, tolerance and restraint for fear and surrender.
The Anglo Saxon is very slow to fear and anger, then we make what threatens us extinct.
No sane person wants the veneer of civilization ripped off, which is why conservatives are so slow to act.
But when threatened enough to act,by the breakdown of law, order and civil discourse, we will act logically, not humanely.

    1. I tend to agree. I support Cherry and I signed that petition and I also support the Rebel. Are honorary degrees nothing more that poseur-fests. Absolutely. Is MacLean a moral coward. Yes. Is this kind of journalism in any way dignified. no. Is anything positive done by such actions. no. The Rebel likely made more enemies from people who could potentially make better allies. I doubt that Don Cherry would have approved of such behavior.

    2. KC: It is not like Ron McLean didn’t ask for it when he went on Sportsnet and apologized for what Don Cherry said, when he agreed with him 100% at the time. You don’t stab someone in the back when they are not looking or bit the hand that feeds you…think about it. Ron McLean is and A$$ hole.

      1. blue turtle:
See my other posts. My entire point is to fight back with winning strategies, not losing ones.
Punish Maclean by not watching him on TV and not buying from the advertisers on Sportsnet. Reward Cherry by buying from his advertisers and listening to / watching him on his new podcast. Make Cherry a success for standing on what he believes in, and Maclean and Sportsnet the failures for being cowardly and PC. That’s a winning strategy, one that the Rebel and other supporters of free expression should be pursuing enthusiastically.
A losing strategy is cheering on the Rebel for sending a wet-behind-the ears reporter to chase down and harrass Ron Maclean at a meaningless honorary degree ceremony armed with a camera and a binder full of signatures asking for Cherry to be reinstated (he won’t, and does not need to be). This strategy accomplishes exactly NOTHING but making the Rebel and people cheering them on look like idiots and losers.

  10. JC

Indeed it was boorish unprofessional behavior. Uncalled for.

I too signed the petition and support the Rebel. I will continue because it is important to have an alternative to state sponsored media. I will voice my displeasure with them over this crass attack.

    1. JC, KC, albertatrapper,

I’m afraid it won’t do. Michael Moore gets awards for precisely the same thing, and that approach seems to work for leftists.
And the CBC has our very own Marg Dela(*u*t)y doing the same stuff, and much more garishly.
Rebel are doing their best. Don’t forget Keean’s only about 20 or so.
The MacLeans were really inviting this one.

      1. quanga, and those clowns fail to realize that their thinking is what caused andy 2% to loose the election, Street wisdom “do unto others as they would do to you, but do so first”

      2. quanga:

Copying one’s enemies does not make one more successful. It makes one no better than their enemies.

        1. So how has getting sand kicked in the face for the last fifty years worked for conservatives so far? Did they get more respect? Treated fairly? Or are they considered to be a low brow, knuckle dragging mouth breathers who should be fired from their jobs, exorcised from the community, sent to a re-education camps. shunned and shouted down at institutes of higher learning?
You remind me of Andy2% and his desire to be loved by the left wing media, so go ahead, be polite, and while you’re at it get “loser” tattooed on your forehead.

          1. Greg Grandy:

I’m not the least bit interested in getting more respect from my enemies, and expect no fair treatment from them either. I’m not a low brow knuckle dragging mouth breather, and refuse to be labeled as one or act as such. No one is going to exorcize me from the community, send me to a re-education camp, or shun & shout me down. I refuse to be cowed, and I also refuse to stoop to the depths that my enemies do, because (but I repeat myself) then I’m no better than they are.

I have no idea who Andy2% is but I have 0% desire to be loved by the left wing media. There is a difference between having a f**king point and being polite. That Rebel ambush had no f**king point whatsoever.

I also have no intention of losing. Neither does Kate, which is why I support her. That Rebel ambush is not worthy of SDA.

I’m just saying (again) that we are right. And we should demonstrate that. Rather than becoming what we despise.

  11. Here is a question I’ve never heard asked: was Don Cherry right? Do immigrants in Toronto wear the poppy less than “old stock” Canadians?
Being ostracized for telling lies bout people is one thing; for telling the truth is another.

    1. I posed this question to a friend of mine who has lived in the same apartment building in Toronto at Bloor/Sherburne Streets for over 40 years. There are many “new Canadians”, mostly Russians, some Asians now living in his building. They would ask him why he wears a poppy on his coat at the beginning of November. He would tell them about the sacrifices made in both World War 1 and 2. The next time he sees them, the Dad, the Mom, and the 3 children are ALL wearing poppies. I think the schools are NOT doing a very good job of education. And perhaps the young hipsters do not wear poppies. But my friend is gay and goes out to restaurants on Church Street, the main drag of GayTown. From the beginning of November and for the next 2 weeks, everyone he sees on Church Street are wearing the Red Poppy (NOT the rainbow poppy). I was quietly pleased to hear of this.

  12. Greg Grandy:

Oh yes. Andy2% = Scheer the dairy lobby suckup. I like it, and agree. It just took me a bit. Kudos for that one!

    1. If you refuse to play by the lefts rules you’ve lost already. To give MacLean an honorary degree is a slap in the face to all true conservatives. There is nothing honorable about him, he’s a weasel, but he’s a useful weasel to the left.
BTW you may not consider yourself to be a low brow, knuckle dragging, mouth breather, but I can assure you, the left surely does.

      1. Greg:

If you play by the left’s rules, they will win – the game is rigged. Go ahead, you’ll see. Refuse to play their game at all.

Also, why do you care at all that Maclean received an honorary degree from the U of A? How is that a slap in the face to true conservatives? Maclean may be a weasel, even a useful one to the left, but who cares? Leftists honouring leftists should not concern us one bit – it is simply a form of self-congratulatory leftist distraction. It should be of no consequence whatsoever to conservatives. if you want to hurt Ron Maclean, stop watching Rogers Sportsnet HNIC and supporting their advertisers. If you want to support Don Cherry – send him money or buy from the advertisers on his new podcast.

There are much more important things to focus on than Maclean and the U of A’s honorary degree receipients.

  13. Don Cherry did not play the leftist game either. He refused to apologize. He was back on the air within a week without all the politically correct restrictions. He stayed true to what he believed/

    Be more like Don Cherry.

  14. Lot of whinging about the Rebel’s ‘cowardly attack… gutter journalism’

Why do you think the left has won the culture war? They won because they’re ready to fight for their side while your side looks at its feet muttering about their dignity.

Punch back twice as hard… or at least shut up while others do it for you.

    1. Joe:
The left has not won the culture war. They have won a lot of battles, on that we agree. The war is still very much ongoing.
I do not need to mutter about my dignity. I wear it with pride.
I also agree we should punch back twice as hard, but playing by our rules, not those of the left.
As I say above, if we play by their rules, we all will lose as a result.
Fight back by refusing to back down. Don’t waste time chasing down useless fossils like Ron Maclean with pointless binders full of names looking to reinstate Don Cherry. Ron Maclean is of no consequence.
Cherry has a new platform in his podcast; landing firmly on his feet with no apologies. That is the example to follow.

      1. KC: That is my kinda thinking forget about Ron McLean. Don Cherry has landed on his feet and we all get to enjoy his podcasts. As for Rebel they did their job reported the news.

      2. KC, as John said earlier the SCOC has ruled that the “truth” is not a defence in a “human rights” case. When the highest court in the land will not accept the TRUTH then Canada and Canadians are truly screwed. Time for war?

        1. owg:
Depends what you mean by war. You want people to bash each other’s heads in? That’s the leftist/anarchist MO – no thanks. We do need to keep battling to neuter and abolish the human rights commissions. They are abominations. That SC decision was unfortunate and repugnant, I agree, but the SC has erred before, and future corrective rulings can be applied to limit the damage and get back on track. Canadian law is not printed on stone, it evolves.

    2. No they’re not ready to fight for their side. Not when they actually have to fight. Cowards. Every last one.

If this is about the Rebel having no manners, get back to me when decent people have had the opportunity to teach leftists to only speak when spoken to and to not insult their questioners’ intelligence when they do.

      1. A Canadian:
Copying one’s enemies does not make one more successful. It makes one no better than their enemies.
        But I repeat myself.
See my other posts. I generally support the Rebel, but not with this pointless ambush with a camera and binder full of names garbage. It accomplishes nothing but making them look petty and stupid.
Leftists convict themselves with their own words and actions. Let them. Don’t take the bait by becoming like they are. That’s what they want, and if we follow, they win.

  15. And furthermore:
Sportsnet pursued a losing strategy by making a martyr of Don Cherry.
Ron Maclean pursued a losing strategy with his towing the corporate line through his PC apology, which given his track record was predictable. This affair has reflected very badly on him and his character.
Don Cherry pursued a winning strategy by refusing to cowtow to coroporate and PC pressure. Majority opinion is on his side, and he will ride that in his twilight years to continued profitable endorsements and a platform where he decides what he says.
The winning strategies are being demonstrated by Kate McMillan. Don Cherry. Mark Steyn. Jordan Peterson. Lindsay Shepherd.
    I quote Winston Churchill:
‘Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never–in nothing, great or small, large or petty–never give in, except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.’

    1. KC, you’re defending you position admirably. I don’t have a taste for ambush journalism but if it’s done it should be reserved for the politicians and people in power with the intent to uncover something meaningful. I mean what did we learn? That Maclean’s wife thinks Don Cherry is a “bigot”? Does anyone here think that’s a bombshell revelation? I bet Don watches that and laughs. I’m sure he’s COMPLETELY aware of what she thinks of him.

      1. We agree. Mrs. MacLean is free to consider Don Cherry a bigot, if we believe in freedom of expression, including the freedom to offend. Don Cherry and you for that matter are free to consider her an idiot for saying so, and also that she is wrong. Mr. Cherry would be free to pursue legal action against her if he wished, but he won’t, because he doesn’t need to. He doesn’t care. So, no, I don’t think it’s a bombshell revelation, I think it’s a commonly held belief about Mr. Cherry by people like Mrs. MacLean.
Sheila Gunn Reid by contrast is playing a winning strategy against people like David Barrett, who called her a Neo-Nazi, quite a step up from a garden variety bigot. Sheila fighting back is much more effective than making a show of chasing down Ron MacLean with a camera and a binder full 90,000 signatures in a misguided attempt to help Don Cherry, who needs no one’s help to defend himself, because he already won that battle by standing firm on what he said, and has nothing further to prove. Sheila, however, did have something to prove – that she was not afraid of calling David Barrett on his BS allegation she was a Neo-Nazi. Be a Don. Be a Sheila. Fight back with winning strategies. Win.

  16. Wow…a lot of “we’re better than that” comments today with respect to Keean’s style of journalism. It’s precisely that type of mindset that’s brought us to where we are today.
Want to be a doormat for the left? Knock yourself out. You’ll have to excuse me though, the memories of news crews and the unfunny Mary Walsh camped outside Rob Ford’s house in the early morning hours for the express intention of embarrassing him in front of his neighbors is still fresh on my mind. And frankly, I rather like it that we’re presented with a fascinating insight into Mrs.Maclean’s mindset when she has her guard down and surrounded by upper crusters who think the “Great Unwashed” are only good for paying jacked up hockey prices and serving dinner while they bestow meaningless awards on each other.
And I’d bet dollars to donuts she along with Ron has had a dinner or two with the Cherrys.(before Rose’s passing and after) and wouldn’t in a million years tell Don to his face that there’s a possibility he could be a bigot.
Now Don gets to see first hand what she and others thought of him all these years while he put food on the Maclean dinner table.
    Good.
