We Don’t Need No Flaming Sparky Cars

CNBC;

A Tesla Supercharger station located at a Wawa convenience store ignited in Parsippany, New Jersey, CNBC confirmed after images of the fire were shared on social media.

According to a Wawa spokesperson, “Tesla had an issue with their cabinet and the power has been shut off while they are investigating. Our store was unaffected as it is on a completely separate power line.”

Tesla did not return multiple requests for comment.

  1. It wasn’t the Tesla Charger, it was the (utility company’s?) transformer. Maybe they didn’t size it properly to account for the harmonic distortion and neutral currents, which are caused by the conversion of AC power to DC power. They can create a lot of extra heat in an undersized transformer.

    Or it could just be a defective transformer?

    1. Stepping out of my area of expertise here but the Tesla powering station would require a fused panel (with breakers) between it and the hydro lines. If a transformer failed and the installation of the Tesla station was correct it would be the fault of the power company (otherwise the breaker would shut off the electricity to the faulty installation). I only say this because as Tesla and other electric car manufacturers add new powering stations the quality of the hydro installations powering them will be tested more and more.

      1. The Fire Chief knows nothing about power Xformers except that electrical fires are overheated STUFF.. The Fire was in the TESLA STUFF not the shore Power Xformer

  2. Yeahhhh! So PG&E still starts more fires than Tesla!! And much more deadly!! Tesla is really, really, safe by comparison

  3. hint:
    Tesla aint returning multiple requests from multiple sources for multiple reasons.
    hopefully, soon the reason will be they DONT EXIST anymore.

  4. Look at this Daily Mail article from a few years ago – this is the headline to look for: “Child miners aged four living a hell on Earth so YOU can drive an electric car: Awful human cost in squalid Congo cobalt mine that Michael Gove didn’t consider in his ‘clean’ energy crusade”
