I used to be a devoted reader of NG. I stopped about 20 years ago when it had clearly drifted from what had drawn me in the first place. It was no longer about the pursuit of knowledge and stretching of horizons but had taken to preaching and scolding.
I haven’t missed it.

Agreed. It is the fate of many a once-read magazine by me. Scientific American, The Economist and New Scientist amongst them. They now just shill the enviro fascist and socialist lines. Independent thought is verboden and practitioners of said thought must be hunted down by th ebaying packs of bots, shunned from respectable dinner parties and generally condemned to rot in a jail of silence.
National Geographic and Scientific American. I had subscriptions to both until about 20 years ago.
I remember the straws that broke the camel’s back.
For NG, it was their article on AGW, which said it will melt all the snow on the Himalayas, and inundate India. They showed a picture of a riverbed up in the mountains, and it was bone dry. You’d think if it was starting to happen, there’d be some water.
For SA, it was an article on Korea. They showed a bustling downtown Seoul, with busy vehicular and pedestrian traffic. They said all the services were strained, and showed lack of urban planning. They also showed a picture of a broad avenue in Pyongyang, which was almost empty. They praised North Korea for their planning. By that time, SA had gone completely political.
I still have a large collection of NG, and I reread them periodically. (No pun intended.) It’s like a different magazine.
If you’ve been to South Korea, you would know that the transportation services there are quite good. In fact, I would say that the public transportation system is much better than anything one would see in Canada.
My dad used to like reading National Geographic until it started pushing Darwinism to an insane level. That was it for him.
Oh come on now; everyone knows the streets of Pyongyang are clean and emp[ty because every one works from home and the diligent citizens clean up after themselves as part of their patriotic duty to save the planet.

I lost my interest in NatGeo when topless became available at other sources. That said, only after reading the articles, my primary interest.
Oddly enough, my mother didn’t mind my reading NG when I was in school because it was considered educational. Playboy, however, was another matter….
