       1. If he had called it quits much earlier this year, he would have found some nice spots on various corporate boards and along with the speaking circuit kept himself in a nice lifestyle. It’s harder to find those in a middle of a scandal, and the speaking circuit is a shell of its former self these days, so he needs to hang on in anticipation the wind blows over and those possibilities start opening up again. Also he needs to make sure his most loyal of his loyalists, like Telford, are taken care of in their next careers, since as a matter of practice they’ll go when he goes.

          IMO, the only way he goes now or in the very near future is via a party revolt. Then you get Freeland, and it’s not like she’s going to do much different on the policy and spending sides of things unless she has a Come to Jesus moment.

We have a potential civil war rising to the south of us, hunger, and homelessness, chronic poverty, all rising rapidly, people lining up at food banks because they’re savings are gone, and are unable to pay their rent and mortgages…. the whole shytshow in dire straits, the west is seething because of killing jobs, energy, and gun grabs, and he toodles off to create another ethics scandal somewhere.
