  1. Maher always points out the idiocy of the left in these monologs, but he’s usually dilligent in adding that it’s ok to do this stuff to Republicans.

    I think he’s a closet MAGA.

  2. Nice indictment. I was naive in thinking that the US wasn’t as bad as Canada.
The CCP gang must laugh at us on a daily basis.

    1. Laugh at us fault. Nah, they’re probably like Americans. Most barely know us except for stories of mountains and moose.

They’ve bought and sold us, we’re not even worth a punchline or another notice.

Although ‘lil’ potato’ is a pretty funny nickname in any language.

  3. Maher’s not wrong, but he downplays the iron-fisted authoritarianism that allowed China to make those things happen; he also ignores that, in many cases, China creates “solutions” for problems that don’t actually exist (see: megacities built in the middle of nowhere for no compelling economic reason [a shorthand for saying “nobody wanted or needed a city there, but they built it anyways”]).  Many of their construction projects happen so quickly because you can get amazing amounts of stuff built if you don’t care whether it collapses in six months or six years and kills thousands of people, just so long as the all-powerful State receives all the glory in the meantime.  If Three Gorges breaks, an astounding number of people downstream will die or have their lives ruined.
As one wag put it, “half of China’s population craps in ditches and most of the remainder use the equivalent of pit toilets, which sounds an awful lot like poverty to me.”

  4. Maher occasionally mixes a tiny bit of common sense sugar with his liberal bullshit to make more palatable to a wider audience.

  5. Maher frequently wrong but I give him credit for having courage, real courage. He has taken on Islam and he is taking on political correctness.

He is right on this, the US (and Canada) are not serious countries. This is what the downfall of great countries look like. Look for social chaos to increase and calls for authoritarian measures to combat the chaos. Some conservatives will oppose those measures, but ironically, they’ll be wrong. Democracy and freedom requires a people to be self-governing. We have drained ourselves of self-government. We are quickly becoming unworthy of liberty.

  6. Think about it, the US has gone from nothing to the most powerful country in the world in ~ 250 years.
And now the Left is trying to destroy it …. crazy.

  7. The fact is, democracy is merely the mechanism through which globalists can install their puppets with the consent of a dumbed down publicly educated population.

  8. OTOH … what our silly people HAVE been able to get done (thank you Dems and RINOS) … is to spend another $1.9T on pork belly Projects and bail outs of leftist-run Cities and States (Oakland Mayor Libby Schaff is praising Jao Bi Denh for giving her $192M). This on top of $1.9T already given less than 1-year ago for the ChiCom manufactured flu relief.

Perhaps the sexual deviant Maher is creating a diversion by claiming our government … “can’t get anything done” … and should look more like China (except for all the suffering and oppression). Maher is pining for an America that “looks like” Communist China.

Hardly aligned with Mark Steyn in any way, shape, or form.

  9. I just can’t get pass the “smug-ass” persona that is Maher. I feel dirty if I watch more than a minute so I don’t watch.

  10. F Bill Maher. Maher passed himself off as a Libertarian until Andrew Breitbart called him out for his “European Socialist” attitudes which after a little prodding he finally admitted too.
Steyn has been consistent with his message since God knows when…Maher sticks his finger in the air to see which way the wind is blowing then goes balls to the wall with what he thinks will resonate with his audience of clapping seals. His past shows on Trump/Russia collusion should tell you all you need to know him.

    Phoney POS.

I’d rather you never mention his name along with Mark Steyn ever…but you do you.

“Real courage”???? Oh please, he doesn’t have a show because he’s a raging conservative. He has his show because he toes that very fine line. Nothing more…nothing less and his masters are good with that.
    At least for now.

  11. Given that Maher’s audience is mostly mindless mushy middle, he can insult them with his jokes without them being aware of it and they just laugh like trained seals, especially with his requisite anti-conservative jabs and America stinks meme. He was correct in that analogy in that the US has become hopelessly stagnant due to green theocracy and post modern nihilism but his audience still supports it at the polls. Stripped of his sarcasm, he dishes out an underlying theme of nihilism. The hard left, as frequent targets must only barely tolerate him. On this path, he will likely be canceled in the not too distant future.

Think of a very snarky and sarcastic John Stossel.

  12. Communism has failed as an economic system everywhere in the world it has been tried and I fully expect it will ultimately fail in China too. Financial decisions in China are not based on economics but on ideology. I avoid Chinese stocks like a plaque (virus).

    1. Your delusion and your loss. China is only getting easier and easier to do business in. The Yuan is probably going to replace the USD as reserve currency, and my Chinese assets will make me wealthy up to then and wealthier after.

      1. And what makes you think they will allow you to keep your assets? They see you as nothing but a subhuman… and in your case they are right.

        1. Because it’s not in their interests and simply ‘taking’ the money via capricious seizure is not how the Chinese like to do things. They do screw people over but it’s not like the Congo.

          1. Only until they decide playing nice is no longer in their interest. You’re delusional if you think you’re worth anything to them. You’re not, neither you should be.

          2. “Only until they decide playing nice is no longer in their interest.”

That could be said of Canada or America. Thing is, it is in their interest to play nice. So much so that it’s very difficult to delude oneself into thinking otherwise. If there’s a sudden regime shift in Beijing then it may very well be time to head for the exits. If Han Hugo Chavez comes to power or looks like he will I will be the first to take my money out.

          3. Sure, because they will let you take your blood money out then. In any case, you’re proud to be making money on slave labour utilized to destroy West. You’re a traitor to civilization. Another proof why diversity is suicide.

      2. The only easy business with China is between the CCP and the Mexican drug cartels moving tons of fentanyl into the US and Canada.

      3. China has 1.2 Bn people. Their middle class is ~100 million, if that. They have weekly, massive riots in several cities in China. They have a serious problem with lack of domestic demand, and the Shanghai Index has been flat lining for years. Shortselling is not possible, except for market indices, so there is – literally – no way to punish BS corporate accounting and crappy, crony management.

They have a creaking banking system, that has baked-in fake lending at near epidemic levels. Their management science is non-existent. No one with a brain and any real training believes any Chinese economic data, nor forward (or even backward) looking statements. (CNBS is the place well-to-do CCPers send their kids to, to ‘work’ for a few years, making numbers up to entice “foreign” “investment”. )

The yuan can’t make up its mind if it is an export currency, or needs to be an import currency. Many states have had enough of China refusing to pay full price for foreign manufactured goods, nor allow foreign companies to set up shop in China to compete with state-owned enterprises.

And I will not be surprised to find India leading the charge out of the gate to severely punish Chinese trade and regional perfidy. India is a nuclear power, and hates China’s guts. Russia and India go back further and friendlier than Russia and China.

And China’s rapidly aging population and gender imbalance will soon become a big problem.

And just wait till Three Gorges fails. The riots that will follow that will make the Russian Revolution look tame.

By the way, what will all you greenies do when all Chinese and Asian cars are churning out tens of millions of used batteries for the world’s landfills every year, even as they power these cars with electricity from coal-fired power stations.

China is the new Japan, mate. And they are held together as a National Socialist state through the firepower of the Chinese military. For now.

        Good luck with your holdings.

  13. I used to enjoy listening to Maher a decade or more ago. As someone mentioned above, he was cutting edge in warning the western world about the double threat of importing Islam.

But I was actually uncomfortable listening to this clip. Sure, Bill has a few good lines and sprinkles some reality on leftards cornflakes, but I think this bit comes across horribly. His audience was repeatedly laughing and applauding at America’s downfall in light of the global ambitions of communist China. I doubt a single leftard in his audience stopped to consider the serious undertone to Maher’s comments.

Yeah, the evil Chinese regime is eating the western world for lunch. F*cking hilarious.

    1. Maher is not wrong that the US appears to be past its prime but his admiration for China’s basic dictatorship is stupid. If he likes it so much, then he should move there already. Yes, the US (Canada too) is declining rapidly. I think some of this is due to our turning away from God as a people, but to adopt the repressive ways of godless communists would be even worse than our current mess.

    2. Listening to his audience sort of laugh and kind of applaud, I got the feeling that they were not sure what he was saying was all that funny. Maybe it was just me.

  14. Not nuking Soviets in 1945 led to impossibility of nuking Chicoms decades later … it went downhill from there. Biggest mistake a civilization ever made. Well second biggest, not allying with Mongols to wipe out Islam was the biggest mistake.

    1. The Mongols were the opposite reaction to Islam’s push into their territory.
For every reaction their is an opposite and equal reaction.
The Mongols were more brutal and barbaric then the Islamists, they had to be to put the fear of Allah into them.
The only way to get the job done.
Yes , Christianity had a chance to totally wipe them out during the Last Crusade and we ignored their offer.

As for China, McArthur had a chance in North Korea and got shot down by that puke Truman.
Old soldiers never die, they just fade away.

  15. Apt comparison. They were both stubbornly wrong about how importing Islam would somehow someway destroy the west, and are both closeted authoritarians.

  16. The Chinese are allowed to solve problems—including their Islam problem.

    We are not.

You see, to China’s business partners among our own elites, Western civilization and the Jewish and Christian faiths are the problems they expect the Chinese to finally solve for them.

      1. The half a century where undiverse openly racist Chicom terminator has won every round and diverse West is banning Dr Seauss and Mr Potato Head.

You would not be tolerated by Chicoms, you are tolerated in West. We lose they win.

        1. They have everything to do with diversity. You’re just unwilling to admit your inferiority.

          1. No they don’t. Indeed these problems are worse in the Nordic countries all of which are more homogeneous than Canada.

          2. Wrong, Nordic countries are bending over backwards to be more diverse and follow the same path Canada does. China does not. South Korea does not. Vietnam does not. In fact none in Asia has patience for the diversity suicide pact. And they’re winning. Import turd world, become turd world. You’re just too limited to recognize that, savage.

          3. Of course and plenty of others, diversity is only a Western disease that leads to suicide. UnMe is a perfect example, no allegiance to civilization, purely parasitic attitude (and that is outside of his personal failures to enjoy or experience life at the slightest).

  17. Bill Maher has the most punchable face imaginable, a smug, self-righteous pseudo-intellectual. It is true that America has the faults he mentions, but I think he neglected to mention that all the faults he listed are things the Left has championed and the Right decried. And the “success” story that is China only appears to be a success from the outside, if you overlook what the Chinese government does to accomplish its goals.

The worst thing though is the high-speed rail thing. You know why China has such a massive lead in building high-speed rail over the US? Because the US has no need for high-speed rail and it’s idiots like Bill Maher who keep pushing that crap. The US has a society that was built on the automobile, we put our money into roads that allowed people to travel and spread out. China has a society that was built on the bicycle. As they industrialize, mechanize and modernize, they’re going to skip right over the slow process of urbanization the US went through – it took generations to mechanize US farms, resulting in mass unemployment for farmers, resulting in a move to the cities to take jobs at the factories, resulting in a need for mass transit. China’s mechanizing their farms, moving their rural population to newly-built cities, and developing mass transit all in one fell swoop. And the rural villagers who haven’t yet accepted that their way of life is gone and don’t want to move to the cities and work in factories? Well, you shoot a few random villagers in the back of the head and burn down their houses, they pick up on the lesson pretty quick.

And, inevitably, central planning just does not work as well as the free market in giving people what they want, and that’s an inescapable law. China may look like it’s a success, but it gives its people food and clothing and shelter in precisely the same way a prison does. Sooner or later, the prisoners are going to revolt, and the horror stories will come out and everybody will be amazed to find out that the wonderful conditions in China were not so wonderful after all and express the usual remorse of “if only we had known”. You’ve had every opportunity to notice how damn evil China is, you know they’re liars and thieves and murderers, spare me the fake astonishment when it all falls apart.

    1. China is repressive but it is not communist nor is it functioning like a prison. They are the most successful anti-poverty drive in modern times. The success is real, that’s why tons of money is walking there as we speak. Where else can you get a decent yield *and* stable money?

      1. Semantics. It is repressive like a communist society. Social Credit System combined with a state of constant surveillance make it a prison.

Also an instant literal prison for anyone who does not walk in lockstep.

    2. I’m told the Acela high-speed service is at least notionally viable economically, and it certainly has a passenger base that find it useful, so to some extent perhaps there is a “need” for high speed rail in the US. This may not be the “high speed” you have in mind, and indeed I might be generous in calling it “service”, but still.

As to the need for MORE high speed rail, I’m with you there. You have several billion dollars of California money backing you up on that.

  18. China-praisers ignore how much coal energy China uses and how much polution China causes in other areas. China and India are clogging our oceans with junk, not the U.S. China-praisers also ignore the plight of Uighers. Even fellow Muslims in the Middle East and in the West ignore what China is doing to the Uighers. Leftists and environmentalists and human-rights activists are utter cowardly hypocrites when it comes to China. (Hey, NBA, can your players wear “free Tibet” on their uniforms?).

The Chinese can be ruthless. They did buy Africa. And they could give, to quote Maher, “a Crouching Tiger Flying F * k” about accusations of “racism”. African people who want to shake of Europe and American’s colonial yoke might soon discover the difference between Western and Chinese colonialism. And they won’t like it at ALL. And American minority groups might soon discover the difference between “White Man’s ‘oppression'” and surviving under Chinese rule. And they won’t like the new boss at ALL.

If Ghandi faced Chinese occupiers instead of English occupiers, his non-violent resistance would have been laughed at and he would have been shot and his movement oppressed out of existence, very efficiently. Most efficiently. As efficiently as the fast raising of those new cities in China.

The new boss will not be the same as the old boss. The new boss will be worse. Very efficient … oh, very … but worse. Freedom can be messy and inefficient, but it is so very precious, none the less. And those under China’s yoke are not free. We will miss even this present-day mess one day, when we have to hide and suppress everthing about ourselves and the world is grey.

  19. There is nothing classically “liberal” about people like you and governments like China’s. You oppress. It’s what you do. You want grey conformity forced on everyone to make us all believe everything you think and believe. There will be no social or economic liberalization for the Chinese people. And America and Canada’s freedoms, economically and socially, are rapidly declining for anyone except the elite. I’ve read your many comments on SDA. You are either actively complicit in the oppression and constant barraging of those in other political camps than yours (I suspect you and Allan S – if he’s not the same person as you – are even being paid for your constant comments on here, and you are being fed the talking points you cut-and-paste into your comments), or you are willfully ignorant of history and what’s actively going on in the world right now. Actually … you’re probably both.
Truthfully, UnME, when we freedom-loving people break free from your ilk, and we finally form our own country … you’ll be doing your best to get into our new country. Deep down you know your masters are evil and that life under leftist rule sucks hugely.

      1. You’re angry. People react angrily when they’re told truths they don’t want to hear.
You’re on the side of the oppressors, UnMe.
When you stop barraging and harassing people who have different political opinions than you, you have taken the first step to freeing yourself.

  20. after mao’s cannibalized china, the leading successors like deng zhao ping, decided to try the systems, that had been derided, the capitalism of the robber barons, who they saw as ultimate pragmatists, they sought an open door not only in the us, but in africa in south america and europe, now xi actually went and studied marxism in the 90s, he’s a true believer,

  21. I get goose bumps just thinking about my first and hopefully one of hundreds of Chinese anal swabs. So there.

  22. China is a paper tiger.
Their Achilles heal is they cannot feed themselves.
A naval blockade can starve them out as those can be resupplied for years.
They are mostly a peasant society with a corrupt leadership. Their tech has been mostly stolen.
The Japanese improved things by making them more reliable, the Chinese just make it look good but’s it’s junk.
Watch China take Taiwan under Biden’s watch…all arranged.
    Losers dealing with losers.
Next year or two are gonna suck.

    1. I wouldn’t be surprised if Taiwan has a few secret nukes ready to wipe out half the Chinese invasion fleet … Stranger things have happened.

A couple well-timed bombs would cripple the Chinese military permanently. They’d get Taiwan, but it’d be the last thing they take.

  23. So, why doesn’t Bill Maher just take credit for the world that he helped to create?

  24. The emerging alliance between the New World Order and the U.N., Big Tech, Big Media, the left Political Class, the Billionaires and China is alarming. They continually work in consort and protect each other. Every freedom loving, God fearing person should be wide eyed at what is happening. The Elites have more money than they can ever spend. For them it is now about power, control and forced conformity to Secularism. People believe the propaganda they are repeatedly told and our countries and culture are imploding.
