Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs

There are some ominous parallels between what’s going on today and nasty things that have happened in past.  Mattias Desmet, Psychotherapist and Professor of Clinical Psychology has been trying to draw attention to it. The link above is to a transcript of an interview he did back in march.

But it is especially important to place mental well-being in the corona crisis in its historical continuity. Mental health had been declining for decades. There has long been a steady increase in the number of depression and anxiety problems and the number of suicides. And in recent years there has been an enormous growth in absenteeism due to psychological suffering and burnouts. The year before the corona outbreak, you could feel this malaise growing exponentially. This gave the impression that society was heading for a tipping point where a psychological ‘reorganization’ of the social system was imperative. This is happening with corona. Initially, we noticed people with little knowledge of the virus conjure up terrible fears, and a real social panic reaction became manifested. This happens especially if there is already a strong latent fear in a person or population.

The psychological dimensions of the current corona crisis are seriously underestimated. A crisis acts as a trauma that takes away an individual’s historical sense. The trauma is seen as an isolated event in itself, when in fact it is part of a continuous process.

And

Here, too, we see a kind of naive belief in objectivity that turns into its opposite: a serious lack of objectivity with masses of errors and carelessness. Moreover, there is a sinister connection between the emergence of this kind of absolutist science and the process of manipulation and totalitarianisation of society.

  1. So that part about how those who refuse the vaccine will be scapegoated and probably end up in isolation camps and be killed before this is over was not very encouraging. I must say I do expect it.

    1. No, it’s going to be the other way around. It will be the vaccinated who are rounded up and exterminated. We’re all registered; they know where we live. As soon as the narrative turns to “studies show that COVID variants are coming from and spread by the vaccinated”, you’ll know.

      1. I don’t think it will be “COVID variants are coming from the vaxxed.” If the long term side effects of the vaccine prove to be prion-related as some believe, we will have an outbreak of 10’s of millions of dementia cases washing over the healthcare systems with the only option being euthanasia.

Blame will likely be placed not on the vaccine but on the food supply (ie: “mad cow”) and we’ll see a mass slaughter of protein worldwide, giving the eco-zealots exactly what they want while tightening the elite’s grip on desirable protein, while those of us who are left eat bugs and soylent green.

          1. Kenji, I too would choose euthanasia, but for the instigators of the whole shit show, not me.

        1. …and, of course, all of this will be powered by the greenest solar and wind generated electricity money can buy!

  2. I joked with friend’s that what we have is a real life, population experiment to confirm both the Milgram Experiment and Stanford Prison Experiment

1.”The Milgram experiment(s) on obedience to authority figures was a series of social psychology experiments conducted by Yale University psychologist Stanley Milgram. They measured the willingness of study participants, men 20-50 years old from a diverse range of occupations with varying levels of education, to obey an authority figure who instructed them to perform acts conflicting with their personal conscience.”

    2. Stanford – “Zimbardo’s primary reason for conducting the experiment was to focus on the power of roles, rules, symbols, group identity and situational validation of behavior that generally would repulse ordinary individuals. “I had been conducting research for some years on deindividuation, vandalism and dehumanization that illustrated the ease with which ordinary people could be led to engage in anti-social acts by putting them in situations where they felt anonymous, or they could perceive of others in ways that made them less than human, as enemies or objects,” Zimbardo told the Toronto symposium in the summer of 1996.”
The actions of police in Australia…

    3. You could probably include Asch – “The Asch Conformity Experiments, conducted by psychologist Solomon Asch in the 1950s, demonstrated the power of conformity in groups and showed that even simple objective facts cannot withstand the distorting pressure of group influence.”

I find it ironic that those who have most fervently claimed their superior moral codes and historical knowledge were the first ones to fall into these psychological traps : academics, universities, journalists, judges and, of course, politicians. Those people would definitely also have been complicit or agitating for burning heretics and Japanese internment in previous eras.

    1. Dr. Jordan Peterson has repeatedly pointed out that “progressives” would by and large have made excellent concentration camp guards, and that in fact a great many people would have.

I’d have made a good resistance fighter. Maybe I’ll have to.

      1. Ur resistance fighter comment made me think of the joke about the French “Legion du Surrender” & “Corp de Collaboration”.

    2. LC the biggest experiment of mass psychosis/cultism is religion, all religions require strict adherence to their prescribed codes of behaviour . Which leaves NO room for individual thought, or descention.

      1. And Covid has become a religion. It’s priests are Fauci, Tam and other nutcases. In fact, freaks like Fauci are the modern day Jim Jones.

      2. I’m not religious but I find religion interesting. World Religions was my favorite elective. I wouldn’t call religion itself a psychosis but religious fervour can be used for evil by pushing the buttons in the human brain that activate fear, bigotry, sadism, loss of empathy etc. This button pushing of our worst nature also happens in politics to school bullying and everything in between. The psychosis comes from evolutionary quirks and flawed reasoning/emotions in our brain.

In covid, I’ve called the psychosis from the pandemic Operation Panic and I think it’s been done intentionally and with malice. The Canadian military and UK pandemic advisory committee both admit to using propaganda and psychology to manipulate people.

        1. It’s been an 18-month non-stop constant attack on every person’s limbic system. It is by design. And it has worked superbly. The evidence of rational thought being destroyed is everywhere.

          1. What governments are doing should be explicitly deemed illegal. I think weaponizing fear and fomenting hatred among citizens by governments and government agencies should be considered a form of treason.

The medical profession must also answer for corrupting science and violating medical ethics and codes. “I was following orders” is not a good reason or legal defense.

          2. RN, a excellent summary and observation. You can covered it with very few but accurate words. If you see me post it elsewhere don’t be surprised.

          3. The previous 25+ years of Global Warming fear-mongering from the State Science Institute set the scene. The pandemic is Act II. Mass hysteria and fear of invisible enemies will continue. Only a real threat will break the spell. Asteroid, spontaneous tectonic shifting, massive solar flare, coffee shortage…

      3. That’s funny … I consider The 10 Commandments … key to … “civilization”

I don’t want to revert to Chimpanzees beating each other with bones, and confused by a large dark obelisk. Belief in God? I’m afraid I can’t let you do that, Dave …

  3. Sorry … I don’t want to sound like a Eugenicist … but we have been breeding and importing a vast underclass of utter societal dependents who have little to offer society other than their latest TikTok dance routine, or rap about whitey. I suggest we are selectively breeding for mass mental illness.

And then we teach them that their lives are hopeless in “racist “white” America. And that the planet is dying after passing a myriad of “tipping points”. And that $5.7T doesn’t have to be paid for. It’s all FREE !! Yeayyyy!!!

Only, it isn’t. Damn! That’ll mess with the (weak) minds.

    1. More proof we are on exactly the same page. The only African-American with a public persona I’ve heard condemning for example the elevation of a thug like George Floyd to hero status is Candace Owens. Can’t we all just admit that African-American popular culture is toxic to the point of insanity? Go find out who the top 10 or 20 rap “artists“ are and read their bios. Repeat felons, every single one of them. Murderous thugs and disgusting sluts acting as role models to young African-Americans (and of course young and not so young white, Latino, and Asian idiots).

BLM my ass. Clean up your own house, fools.

      1. And now that we’ve PAID the poorest and dumbest of our society to breed (for the welfare/childcare perks) … and welcomed the dumbest inhabitants of the surrounding shithole countries across our non-existent borders … now what do we do? We dumb-down our educational system … because too many children ovvvvvv cullller are failing. How to solve the problem? Make kids smarter and teach them more rigorously? Ha! Fat chance. Nahhh … just make school easier. Or in the current parlance … “less white”.

And NO. I am not a racist. I believe that kids from disadvantaged homes (if they have homes at all) CAN succeed. But that’s not the strategy of the left. They just want to spend all their education effort at teaching the kids that they don’t have “white privilege” and excuse them from making an effort to LEARN. They are intentionally CRIPPLING kids who need the most help. They are fanning the flames of race HATE for purely political gain … and destroying their own kids in the process.

        1. Yep. That’s why Owens’s book is subtitled “How Black America Can Make Its Second Escape from the Democrat Plantation.”

Truth might be painful sometimes, but it sure as shit beats the alternative.

    2. Kenji, “we have been breeding and importing a vast underclass of utter societal dependents who have little to offer society”

It’s deliberate, or, in current common SDA vernacular, it’s a feature, not a bug.

  4. Simply put, our government at all levels have held us hostage for two years. We’ve had our liberties and freedoms taken from us in the name of protecting the forking collective. I would love to see someone do a documentry on the effects of the government abuses in the name of public health, how many suicides, drug over doses and mental health deaths because of the government and not covid? FYI liberals/Redcons I am not part of your forking collective, never will be so gag on that fact. One’s personal health is not my responsibility, gag on that fact government of Canada. In NS some goberment twit actually said wearing face masks protects the collective, good gawd they’re suppose to be Conservative and they sound just like the communist leftwingers.

  5. Another US expert trying to make a buck off current affairs. He is likely correct, as governments are enabling nutcases and general paranoia in normal people.

Fortunately, Vancouver police and ambulances and rescue workers are too busy picking up OD’d people flicked on fentanyl (oh, from China?), meth crazies acting out, and incompetent people (who thought it might be nice to go to the mountains, with no equipment or even a lunch and water) to enforce masking and distancing rules in parks. Good.

  6. You know who’s really depressed? The widows and orphans of people who take medical advice from places like SDA.

    1. So you didn’t even bother reading this, direct from the UK’s National Health and linked from SDA?

“Most people with coronavirus (COVID-19) feel better within a few weeks. You may be able to look after yourself at home while you recover.”

You ARE a lazy bitch, aren’t you? 😀

  7. I see this situation as a manifestation of the boomer tendency to consider one’s self invincible, something that has been a conspicuous feature of our generation since the late 1960s. Now that boomers are either in their seventies or very close, the approach of death is on our minds. In my own case, I accept it as part of the human condition. In many other cases, I would imagine, there is a sense of panic. Here goes the fabled generation, having accomplished almost nothing, to an unknown (to them) fate, and so with this COVID looming and threatening older generations in a disproportionate way, there’s a panic underway to avoid the death that seemed to be a comfortable distance away. Boomers will do whatever it takes to stay alive, and if that includes shutting down the economy and wrecking millions of lives, so be it, note also, the Boomer in chief (a rather young boomer born in 1955) down in Seattle is our cheerleader, he of all people fears death the most (and so he should).

    1. Peter, Yeah I’m panicking, It’s a long journey into that dark night, and I haven’t even started to pack yet.
I try not to disrespect peoples religious beliefs, but can’t take such belief seriously. I think, that as animals of this planet, when we die, we simply cease to exist, including what we think of as our soul.

I would be pleasantly surprised if I find this is not the case, but I’m not really hopeful 🙁

  8. Francisco, The Desmit video merits a post itself. His analysis of crowds and mass hysteria is very well done. For people in a hurry, they can start at 8:40. Also it may take a minute or two to adjust to the Flemmish accent. “Mass Formation” is his term for what I call crowd behaviour.
