  1. Easy to watch this and see the good in them, though I think I’d fail at the singing parts…
It’s a lifestyle that many see as being the answer to the current widespread failures in our world, and I’m somewhat jealous of their “cure” for it.

    1. Their communities are also growing with high birthrates. They occasionally buy new land and create new colonies.

  2. Kate — Thanks for posting this really enlightening vid. These people are inspiring! Maybe I can find a community to adopt me. They have a very admirable philosophy towards their world and the outside world. They fear more government control in their lives (justified and they should be concerned!), but they trust in god. (I have trouble dealing with the concept of an imaginary super being, yet I’m up for believing there are aliens in other galaxies)

Some highlights in the vid for me:

@9:14 ” there’s a trend there’s always people from the lower conservative Amish … moving to … less conservative … start out less conservative and end up the most liberal Mennonite there is …”

@14:14: ( singing, bible, these I personally am not comfortable with)

@27:40 social media bringing separation to our people, churches and groups

@ 33:10 kid from Brazil glued to his cell phone and games when he arrived … and he got away from those things,

NOTES — Downside: no divorce, and there are unhappy marriages, but they stay together. Marriages are not arranged (yay!)
Though they try not to marry their second cousins!

@41:04 Can someone become Amish? It’s happened quite a few times.

@42:50 On the Internet: The instant communication, digitally, breaks down the face-to-face real relationships, it has that potential.

@43:28 In an airport, put your phone down and talk to your neighbour. Don’t just sit there on your phone. Build relationships wherever you are at. Talk to someone. Care about their life, not just your own.

  3. Watched the whole thing and came away with a ONE WORD description of people who live this lifestyle … Healthy. Everything I heard and saw exuded … Healthy. Relaxed. Hard working. Devout and Devoted (even in a -temporarily- unhappy marriage). Healthy.

And I believe a large component to their Healthiness comes from their close connection to the earth, Fields, and God’s creation. I cannot imagine these people existing in beehive existence the “greens” plan for us in mega-cities. I imagine Kate is that kind of Healthy … living FREE (mostly) out on the open Canadian Plains (perhaps with a little less Bible and singing). Healthy. As man has evolved, was created, to be … in Nature.

When one considers just how SHORT-lived our modern dysfunctional rat-race hyper-tech lifestyle experiment has been … I fear mankind is heading for a SEVERE reaction and “correction” to our current dysfunctional lifestyles. We see it already in child suicide rates, drug addiction, mental health epidemic, and breakdown of societal norms … such as Law and Order

  4. Yup. Good folks. Just wish they would speak out about the evils of Ceasar.

I have this idea that if the Mennonite and Amish churches had dug in their heels and spoke out against the Wuhan flu oppressions maybe some of the other denominations would have found some spine.

  5. I have been watching these videos as well – he does go to some very strict Amish households.

One of the best lines from one of the videos is – “we need to take a internet fast”

  6. As noted, these are the more “liberal” Amish. I grew up w/ the very conservative “nut case” Amish in northern Indiana. But it’s still the same — don’t believe the lie that more “stuff” (or newer “stuff”) will make you happy. Don’t depend on the gov’t. Depend on God — God really does exist and really does work for those who work hard. Don’t get into fights. Don’t get divorced. And so it goes.

Sadly, they are human too — and many Amish face demons just like we do. So you won’t escape your demons by converting to Amish, just given a different lifestyle to deal with them.

  7. From what I have seen these people are not really hard core Amish but closer to the Mennonites. There is quite difference between the two versions of what appears to be the same phylosophy. From what I have seen in Northern New York near the Canadian border the Amish there are very different than these folks in Ohio. Up here their only transportation is by horse and buggy, everyone appears to be dressed in black and they do not have electricity in their homes or on their farms. Don t mean to denigrate their choice of life style, they have a right to make their own choices like everyone else does.
