That Little Ol’ Band From Texas

Good documentary here. A couple of standout moments were how much Frank Beard really liked those drugs. And how much local history Texans got while growing up. Anyone know if that’s still the case?

One of the problems Canadians have is that they know next to nothing about the history of their own country. It’s just not taught in any kind of meaningful way.

  1. A bit of personal history with regard to this excellent trio… saw them live 3 times in Edmonton.
Took my son once when he was 7 to a show. Felt a bit bad whence the volume, even in the nosebleed section was pretty exterme for him.
Another return trip with a friend, iI was so tired driving home (2 1/2 hr trip) my friend and I just pulled off the shoulder of Hwy #63 near Boyle Alberta, when after a short snooze, the RCMP suggested we move on, at least to a secondary road, where traffic was much lighter, We were able to simply continue straight home, a 40 minutes further.
The best, was in 2010, where my son, from the first concert, provided FRONT ROW seats for us, and a MEET and GREET with the band, including a Photo op!
After the show, where we took lots of photos, while waiting in a lineup for the photo session, Dusty Hill marched right up to ME… and thrust his hand out for a shake! A truely warm Texas greeting surprised us!
You see I had a considerable beard going at the time as did he!
A great time I will treasure.

  2. O/T but

I got that almost word for word from a Canadian nurse at our local hospital here in Oz recently

  3. Front of the floor at the Kinsmen Fieldhouse in Edmonton, for Queen (1976?) and also front for ZZ Top, same year. They shot the album cover and back cover for the Fandango album, I’m on the back cover…great but foggy memories.

  4. Greetings from Texas,
Thanks for reminding me of ZZ Top–a common sound of my youth. As to local history, I grew up with plenty of it both true an apocryphal. And local ghost stories. And, yes, quite a few of the tall tales Texans are famous for. You have inspired me

  5. We moved to Texas from the East Coast. I was amazed at how much state history my son learned – it was rarely taught back East. Kudos to Texas for that.
