In honour of my dear mother’s 90th birthday, today we present you some beautiful scenes of rural Saskatchewan. My mom was adopted so her lineage is not entirely clear but through DNA we’ve recently established that her likely father was orphaned in 1919 in Omaha, Nebraska due to both of his parents dying from the Spanish Flu. He was one of the first few orphans at Father Flanagan’s Boys Town but ran away at some point and made his way up to Canada.  Thankfully my mom ended up with a wonderful Polish-Canadian family on a farm near Lake Lenore, SK.  She became a nurse and made her way out to Vancouver in the early 1950’s.  She has definitely had some challenges in her life but managed to shape me into the dedicated SDA contributor that I am today.  And quite a coincidence the city boy, that is yours truly, found a shared affinity of stubbornly pushing back with a rural Saskatchewan woman named Kate, who I’m truly honoured to know.  For these words inspire me more than most of you will ever realize:

Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me “what Canadians think”. In all that time they never once asked.

This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio – “You don’t speak for me.”

I’m blessed that my mom has reached the age of 90, though the past two years of insanity have been especially hard for seniors and for kids. Happy Birthday, Mom! I love you.

      I know how you feel. My mother died almost 10 years ago. However, I see her every time I go to my house in B. C. as the ashes of both of my parents are in the living room.

      1. About10 yrs since I lost my beloved mom, too, BA. My father was a WWII vet, my mother his British war bride. With my father emotionally damaged from his service, my mother was the pillar of our family… both emotionally and financially. She never really did retire, doing near full-time charity work for another 25 yrs. until her death at 89. It is out of my immense love and respect for her and her selflessness that I do volunteer work, now. I so enjoyed my last few years with her and still miss her terribly.

    Mine just turned 92. These old gals went thru depression, war, children, grand and great grand children… they teach us more than we will ever know.
    My mom recently told me the last two years have been the hardest of her life, due to the woohan…

  9. My best wishes to your Mom, Robert. One of my Grandfathers was also born on February 7th. I think of him on this date because he lived with us. He had 5 children, 18 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and many, many great-great grandchildren. I lost count of the latter two generations.

We’ve spent more than a few summers travelling through the Living Sky country and greatly appreciate the scenes that we have missed in the last two years. Hopefully we can all get back to normal and maybe get back to visiting family and friends still living in Saskabush.

    My Mom is in ICU after a heart attack. Another stent in tomorrow.

    She has had breast cancer and another bout elsewhere. Diabetic since 15. She has stated numerous times she is playing with house money.

    She never let any lockdown deprive her from seeing her grandkids. She says she didn’t suffer all that cancer be to be locked in a room. She is careful though. In her own way

    She would spit on Trudope( for legalized pot. My son struggles and legalizing it gave him an excuse… another story).

    She is watching SDA. Likely gonna get pissed I’m kinda putting her out there. But you rock Mom.

    And like who wouldn’t want to see a “compromised 79 yr old” spit on covid restrictions!

    1. This is so sad. Kids have perfect immune systems and do not need the shots. Lately, I’ve seen the obituary of a few newborns who looked perfectly healthy. No cause of death is ever revealed.

      The clear endgame for Pfizer et al is to get their infernal Covid jabs on the childhood immunization schedule. That’s what’s driving the push to get them all the way down to 6mos. Once they get on that schedule they get COMPLETE IMMUNITY to any & all repercussions.

      That’s also why you still can’t get the FDA approved versions of the vaccines, and only the EUA versions. Big Pharma retains full immunity for the EUA versions but doesn’t yet have it for the full approved ones. Not until they get the kids.

      If an honest history is ever written of this era, it will not be kind on the adults who did all of this. 25+ years or so, maybe.

  24. Happy birthday Roberts mum, the type of pioneering stock that built a fabulous country, I like the comment “She became a nurse and made her way out to Vancouver in the early 1950’s” my guess is she became a nurse during World War 2 or soon after, and boy did the country need them.
    An uplifting story on a tragic day.

    Like you I am blessed to have both parents. Dad will be 90 this year and mom is a bit younger. Both are healthy, sharp, and active. They still have a huge garden.

    I admire that generation. They grew up in the depression and they know the value of hard work and they have a no nonsense attitude.

  41. For our little part, we have attached a couple of freedom signs and Canadian flags at the entrance to our property. Maybe if all those supporting the truckers did this, the message would be even stronger. We were going to park our John Deer lawn tractor beside it, but it is frozen solid. GO TRUCKERS!!!

    The trucks aren’t going anywhere. The tow companies are with the truckers. Even if they weren’t, the cops won’t shit where they eat.

    Any tower daft enough to take the job would take a good thirty minutes just to hook a truck up to a tow. Ample time for the trucker’s buddies to arrive at the scene. You’d have to feel incredibly lucky to try.
