  1. The EU was the test. All sorts of idiotic regulations were introduced since it was established.

For example, the degree of curvature of–get this!–bananas that were sold was mandated by law.

For centuries in the various duchies and principalities that eventually became Germany, the law in those jurisdictions stated that beer could only consist of 4 ingredients: water, malt, hops, and yeast. Thanks to the EU, that was overturned and sugar was allowed.

For years, a company in Winnipeg used to import baked goods that were made in Nuremburg specifically for the Christmas season. The company that produced them used to offer varieties that didn’t use sugar and were meant specifically for diabetics. One year, I wanted to order a box for my father, just as my mother used to do while she was still alive. I was told that was no longer possible as they couldn’t be imported due to–yup!–EU regulations.

    Aaaaaarrrrggghhh!

    1. I remember those halcyon days when handing over regulatory power to foreign powers was called “treason.”

    2. BAD – Just to confirm, the EU stopped a Nuremberg company from “exporting” the beloved baked goods to Canada? Why would they do that? They didn’t want other countries’ citizens to get fat?

  2. People should start ignoring the regulations, but I guess first, they’d have to trade in their ovaries for testicles.

  3. My question is ‘When are Canadians going to take a stand against their government’? I don’t mean armed insurrection but rather take a page from what Danielle Smith is talking about. The provinces simply saying “NO” to Justin Castreau’s brain cramps? No we won’t be paying your carbon tax. Now we will not be locking down or mandating masks or vaxes, no we will not be limiting the fertilizer the farmers need. No we will not be getting rid of our cows and other livestock we use for food.

    1. Pressure the provincial governments to take back more power from the feds and halt the feds screwing with our lives.

      1. BINGO….that is the biggest problem today…..and it’s not just Canada…..other countries are trying to centralize all the power in the federal governments…..a la Soviet Union. Time to ignore the feds.

  4. I knew in 2000, during a 1-year long process of applying for an exemption from a new killer regulation, that regulation would eventually do me in. I succeeded in winning the exemption, much to the amazement of a lawyer I engaged later. As it turned out, regulation didn’t exactly “do me in” but but in 2015, exhausted, I closed my business and joined a large firm whose only concern seemed to be regulatory compliance. I pulled the plug in 2018 having achieved a decent degree of financial security. I am now trying to recover from a challenging case of paperworkphobia.

  5. Hey, our beloved leaders in the US got it covered, export won’t be any problem for us.
See, they got the rails refusing to ship fertilizer to our farmers, diesel prices getting set high enough they won’t be able to afford to plow anyway, so, shucky darn, in just a few months we won’t have enough food to export anyway.

Import food to the US? Could be a problem but I’m not worried though, I’m sure you’ll let us have some of the 80-90 million metric tons of crickets to eat from the state of the art bug factory you’re building in Canada.

  6. If you think “ Danielle Smith” will follow through on any of her rhetoric then you are forgetting your history and are certain to repeat it.

It is a successful strategy for winning power in the west though. Blakney and Laugheed won by promising to be tough. Conned us all.

    What’s the definition of insanity??

  7. “She said the bad news is there is no silver bullet for slow death by 1,000 regulations. Officials instead must undertake the grinding work of holding meetings, talks and negotiations between countries and take “10,000 steps together, right? You have to all work together.””

The silver bullet is telling governments that “no, this is not something you should be doing, so that you can benefit your friends that are offering you benefits”

Government is like sand in the gearbox.
A tiny amount shines things up and creates a little premature wear..
A lot grinds everything to a permanent halt.

Not so sure “complex Systems” applies for these are fundamentally simple interactions..
For those people who have built things, grown products and traded for other items..
But if you are a useless parasite with delusions of adequacy,in your ignorance, you might believe that you can command things to happen and it will be so..
    Hence the endless regulations.
To which lip service is made and selected businesses are targeted to be destroyed, strangely increasing the profits of the businesses friendly to government.
